Snoop's Take

The 247 Viz Running Reflective Vest is designed for optimal safety and visibility during night-time activities like running, cycling, and walking. Its soft, breathable material and adjustable fit make it a comfortable choice for users of all shapes and sizes, while the reflective strips ensure visibility from over 350 feet away. Consumers have praised the vest for its comfort and high visibility, with one user noting, "Very anecdotal but when I'm driving I find the guys in hi-viz vests very noticeable." Additionally, many users agree that reflective clothing significantly enhances safety, stating that it "lowers your chances of getting hit by a car". While some express doubts about the effectiveness of high-vis gear compared to lights, the general consensus is that the vest is a valuable addition to any night-time safety routine. Based on user feedback, the 247 Viz Running Reflective Vest is highly recommended for anyone seeking safety and visibility in low-light conditions. Its combination of comfort and reflectivity makes it a must-have for outdoor enthusiasts who prioritize safety during night activities.

Reflections on Night Riding

Positive Feedback

It can. I've (while riding, and I'm not too incompetent) been able to work out what I was looking at because of the additional clue given by reflective strips on a rider's jacket.

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.

PSA: Don't Be a Suicyclist, Use Lights, Wear Reflective Gear
High visibility from a distance
How’d I do on reflectivity?
I don't understand the cycling communities apparent aversion to using hi vis and lights on a bike. I've mentioned in a few posts with videos, etc, about cyclists not wearing hi vis clothes and/or lights and the response hasn't always been positive.
Regardless you should have bright lights and/or wear high vis gear when it is dark.
Highly visibility yes. Clothing is something else. I assure my visibility with bright lights, reflectors on my bike.
Visibility improves safety
Unless your intention is to be less inconspicuous to traffic to run from cops, being noticed is one of the best tools in ensuring that you avoid getting hit by others.
Very anecdotal but when I'm driving I find the guys in hi-viz vests very noticeable.
High visibility improves safety
I disagree that high viz is useless. I have experienced multiple times in a car that pedestrians dressed all in black are almost impossible to see at night.
Exactly, while high viz green/yellow/orange are the most visible colors during day time, at night we turn color blind and research shows that reflective clothes in motion is best visible under these conditions.
Got one from the hardware store and it has definitely made me more visible. Fewer cars peaking out and abruptly braking when they realize I’m there.
People started to pay a lot more attention.
Reflective clothing increases visibility
colors doesn’t do anything for your safety, but reflective clothing do quicken the reaction time of other riders/ drivers.
there isn't really a reason not to do it. In any case it lowers your chances of getting hit by a car.
Adjustable reflective straps fit over any clothing
Reflective straps are a great thing to have and easily go over anything I might be wearing.
Highly reflective for visibility
nothing is better.
they are definitely screamingly reflective in dim or dark conditions.

Doubts about effectiveness of high vis gear
It can. I've (while riding, and I'm not too incompetent) been able to work out what I was looking at because of the additional clue given by reflective strips on a rider's jacket.
I’m not saying I disagree with people wearing HV by the way, I’m also not saying I actively don’t wear HV. I’m just saying that if I was buying a new jacket whether it’s got hv parts or not doesn’t impact my choices at all because I don’t think it makes a difference.
Most riders seem happy to spend money on all sorts of pretend gear yet spare little thought to a proper (dynamo) lighting system. But that's marketing, I guess.
Good lights (shaped beam, non-blinding, high quality) make a much bigger difference. When I'm riding, I pretty much never notice people in reflective-only gear as quickly as I do compared to those with lights mounted at vehicle height (not head height, not backpack height).
Preference for style over safety gear
wear whatever you want. If you feel safer dressed as a lollipop lady then great, if you feel safe dressed as a ninja from the set of Revenge of the Ninja then great as well.
a biker dressed in black is practically invisible when viewed from the side in low light (as they approach a junction etc).
I'm not going to force people to wear reflective clothes, but I'll never understand why people don't invest in a $20 set of lights.
Benefits are dubious for people already running sufficiently bright lights (mandatory in many legislations).

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on the aesthetics of high-viz clothing
Honest question - do any of my fellow commuters know of or recommend a brand that has High-Viz clothing that they don't hate wearing.
Iron-on reflective tape can let you wear clothing you love but get that edge when it gets dark.
I personally do wear an ugly vest, just because it's the easiest to toss on on top of whatever jacket is right for the weather.
Proviz has some stuff that looks way better than the regular ugly yellow high-viz clothes.
Discussion on the lack of bright colored/reflective cycling gear in shops
Makes no sense from a safety point of view, which is crazy important if you ever take the bike on the road.
this is cyclical (pun intended) and cycling fashions change all the time; two, in my opinion black works great with colorful jerseys and withstands repeated washing.
reflective doest matter as much in the day time.

Anecdotes about personal experiences with reflective gear and cycling safety
I was incredibly self conscious about dressing like a rainbow color clown.

Discussion on the importance of visibility while cycling at night
Am I wrong for thinking that being brightly lit can negate the need for reflective clothing?
Bicycle being visible thanks to proper rear and front lights as well as reflective elements (especially on the sides) is a good start.
So when I'm cycling at night (colder) or rain I'm more visible.
Discussion on additional visibility methods
Just to add to this - you can order reflective stickers and put them all over your gear as well.
Pick up some spoke reflectors. Adds an unbelievable amount of visibility, and even non-cyclists think it makes my wheels look cooler.
Tell him to snap a pic without the flash next time. You will see what you really look like to cars.
Comparison of reflective gear effectiveness
Night visibility that is.
these reflect light back towards the source (like reflective signs on roads) (that's *not* the same as a flat mirror - these reflect back towards teh source even if it's off to one side).

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Anecdotal experiences with reflective gear
What’s your opinion on reflective gear while riding? At night specifically, I have an orange vest from my previous job.
I don't believe the story about a car being blinded by a cyclist
I can see my arms for signalling, but I've been temporarily blinded by people wearing ProViz jackets when I have my headlamp on my helmet on high on an unlit trail.
The thing is, inattentional blindness does exist, so what happens when they don't see you?
Anecdotes about personal experiences with reflective gear
My nighttime cycling jacket lights up like road flare.
Sugoi Zap products on helmet & shoes.
Discussion on safety measures and risk reduction
I’m sure it makes a difference but I can’t imagine it’s huge
Discussion on cycling fashion trends and color choices
Most leather saddles are dyed black. Oiling the saddle will partially dissolve the dye, which will stain on your clothes.
thats currently what i wear, a safety green shirt. my bike is a mix of orange/safety green.
