Snoop's Take

Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Zinc Oxide Mineral Sunscreen Lotion is a specially formulated sunscreen designed for sensitive skin, offering broad spectrum SPF 50 protection from harmful UVA and UVB rays. With its gentle, mineral-based formula, this lotion is praised for being as mild as water on baby’s skin, making it suitable for both the face and body without causing stinging or irritation. Users appreciate that it goes on smoothly, absorbs well, and doesn’t leave a white cast when applied properly, with one reviewer noting that "it fit perfectly in my desk." Overall, this sunscreen is highly recommended for its effectiveness and safety for infants, particularly for those with sensitive skin, making it a reliable choice in its category.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Gentle and suitable for sensitive skin
Yes, baby sunscreen is fine. They market it for babies because it uses a physical, not a chemical, formula in order to provide sun protection.
Aveeno is my tried and true I notice that Aveeno lotion is the ONLY lotion that actually works longer than a few hours for me.
I have always liked Aveeno since my doctor recommended it for my eczema prone skin.
We have been getting hot weather where we live already. Like today was 91 degrees.
Uses physical formula for sun protection
aveeno baby eczema lotion (in a tube, not a jar/pot) is my ONLY holy grail product.
Doctors say no sunscreen because babies can’t sweat and they worry your baby will overheat, if your child will be exposed to the sun use a mineral based sunscreen but you should have them in the shade as much as possible.
I keep Aveeno baby stick in the diaper bag and it's been so helpful.
Goes on super smooth and moisturizing

wait i bought this and tried it and i love it. 😳
Recommended for use on sensitive skin
Probably because it hasn’t been studied much
Effective for sensitive skin
nothing has good results. They block the sun, but it always ends in my girly covered in annoying bumps.
Aveeno products are the only thing that don't give me a reaction.
aveeno baby mineral was the only thing that didn’t give my daughter the tiny red bumps!
Gets absorbed well and doesn't leave a white cast
Gets absorbed well, doesn't leave a white cast if its massaged into skin properly and its doing a good job as a sunscreen.

Concerns about overheating from sunscreen use
It's best to just tell people to avoid it because they'll keep their babies out of the sun.
I’ve been told not to use it under 6 months and I’m due in July in Texas.
Pills over moisturizer
It pills like crazy and mattifies quickly on my skin making it feel and look dry.
General advice against sunscreen for babies under 6 months
UV can penetrate skin in the shade and with a hat, and even with all protective hats / clothing when you’re walking or holding your baby they end up with sun on them sometimes.
I looked into it ages ago when I had my first and if I remember correctly they just haven’t tested sunscreen on babies, it’s hard to do that ethically!
We have a few holiday parties coming up and even though she'll be 4.5 months, I'll be putting sunscreen on.
Leaves a harsh white cast on darker skin tones
white cast with aveeno sensitive skin mineral sunscreen
Zinc sunscreen will always leave a white cast unless it is tinted; this is due to their chemistry and how they function.
Causes breakouts and skin issues
BAM! Tiny comedones and pimples.
It's like putting white acrylic paint on your skin.

Advice to avoid sun exposure altogether for infants
My LO is 10 months and the weather in Ontario is starting to get nice! I am so confused about what the suggestion for baby sunscreen is now as I read something new and terrifying every day.
I’ve kept my Texas baby in long sleeve bamboo pajamas for sun protection while she’s too young for sunscreen.
PA rating not required in North America
Aveeno is an American company. PA ratings are not required.
PA rating is not really used in North America, that’s a requirement for Korean and Japanese sunscreens.
Advice on layering sunscreen to reduce white cast
I have pale skin but I apply two layers instead of one to reduce white cast
Also try doing 1 layer (like 1/4tsp face) the aveeno sensitive, let it set/dry (1-5 mins) then a 2nd layer (1/4 tsp face) of tinted mineral sunscreen.
Patch testing is recommended for new products
Aveeno has a good line of eczema products,
Discussion about sunscreen application and children's safety
Here's what 1/4 ts of Aveeno Baby Natural Protection spf 50 physical sunscreen looks like on mah face in case anyone else was looking to get this one...and the search continues for me!
Now that I know what baby sunscreen looks like on skin, I judge parents whose kids don't look like ghosts at noon on the beach.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns about product authenticity on Amazon
fraud in skincare is especially high on Amazon because it’s hard to regulate all the vendors they have, you won’t believe the stuff try and pass off and authentic product.
Concerns about allergic reactions to other sunscreens
It’s a full body rash guard and I only apply sunscreen on exposed areas.
Apparently sunscreen won’t show an allergenic reaction until actually in the sun.
Concerns about sunscreen usage and reapplication
I always kind of appreciated it when rubbing it on the kiddos - definitely never missed a spot!!
