Snoop's Take

The Bissell Steam Mop, Steamer, Tile, Hard Wood Floor Cleaner, 1806, Sapphire Powerfresh Deluxe is designed to provide an efficient and hygienic cleaning solution for hard floors. With its ability to sanitize surfaces using high-temperature steam, it aims to eliminate 99.9% of germs and bacteria without harsh chemicals, making it a popular choice for households looking to maintain cleanliness. Consumer feedback highlights the effectiveness of the Bissell Steam Mop in cleaning various surfaces, with many users noting that "it cleans things that almost nothing else will." While it excels at deep cleaning, especially on tile floors, some users have expressed concerns regarding its performance on tougher stains and hardwood floors. Additionally, issues with leaking tanks have been a common complaint, suggesting that potential buyers should weigh these factors carefully. Overall, the Bissell Steam Mop is recommended for its category due to its strong cleaning capabilities and hygienic features, though consumers should be aware of its limitations regarding hardwood flooring and the potential for maintenance issues.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Cleans effectively
I love mine. I don’t use it as much as I could, but it cleans things that almost nothing else will.
Easy to use and setup
I didn’t want attachments. It looks small and I like how you can lift it to use the brush.
Most uprights come with hose attachments for spot treatments, upholstery and such. The portables, well just imagine cleaning that one spot the puppy peed in and when it dries, it's cleaner than the rest of the rug.
Since we got it, we have been cleaning the carpet more often and it does a pretty good job.
Hygienic cleaning
Steamers are very hygienic, and they work fairly well.
Effective cleaning results
They do clean well though.
Revelation compared to traditional mops
If you are used to using a mop and bucket for cleaning floors then a steam version will be a revelation.
Great for professional cleaning
The mop itself is fantastic. Has 3 options for heat and stands on its own, which makes it perfect to store instead of hanging it.
Good for deep cleaning
I do like having it for deep cleaning. I’m prepping the house for Christmas so I steam cleaned the bathrooms a few days ago and it’s satisfying to see all that grime come flying out of crevices and into the towel you’re using to catch it.
Effective for cleaning tile floors
These work well on tile floors.
Convenient cleaning experience
Steam mops are like mops but are more convenient.

Not effective on tough stains
What’s the “magic” part I’m missing?
Requires scrubbing for severe dirt
they are excellent for de-greasing and de-mudding things, or to clean high traffic surfaces.
It feels like I’m still scrubbing just as hard.
Steam mop is just a hot flat mop, and has the same weaknesses of a flat mop system (can only handle light soils per pad) while being bulkier and taking longer.
Leaking issues with the tank
Ours leaked and left streaks so now it’s a deck mop
Mine leaks too! If I turn it off with any cleaning solution left in the tank it all slowly drains out onto the floor.
Really disappointing for the cost. My husband was pissed about water on our hardwood floors without us knowing it.
I have the same issue and have resorted to just squirting the cleaning solution directly on the floor and not using the tank anymore
Not ideal for hardwood floors
If you are trying to take care of your hardwood floors dont use a steam mop.
I wanted a steam mop but apparently it has to be used on waterproof flooring, which all laminate is not waterproof.
I just got a Bissel Spinwave Smart Steam to clean my elderly mothers 1970’s linoleum floors only to find out this thing isn’t designed to be used on linoleum floors!
Pads are awkward to put on
Haven't used the Shark, but I'm gonna be contrary and say that I hate the Bissell.
Leaves streaks and swirls on floors
I’ve used the Shark before as it’s in one of the units I clean, and I like it, but I feel like it leaves streaks and swirls on the floor.
Not effective for upholstery cleaning
The amount of headache and $$ you'll save instead of trying every method you hear about is amazing.
Doesn't kill germs effectively without extended use
these steam mops love to advertise that they kills germs sans chemicals, but when you read the literature you have to have it in the same spot for 30 seconds so a 10x10 room would take an infinity to utilize that function.
Short lifespan and performance issues
The cleaner does not emit steam consistently, and it is not hot enough to kill the viruses it claims to kill since I can hold my hand up to it and not be burned.
Tank only lasts for one room
the tank only lasts for 1 room. So you'll have to drain and refill every room you go to.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Support for animal charities by Bissell
That stinks Kathy Bissell does so much to help animals. I try to support Bissell whenever possible.
User experiences with different mops
I used one at a client's per her request, but you're literally just pushing dirt around on the pad.
Discussion about different product models and their similarities
Bissell steam shot vs power steamer? What's the difference?
326 days later…another difference I have found now that I purchased the “Power Steamer Extended Reach” from Walmart and on the manual that’s included it literally says “Steam Shot” with the model # for the Steam Shot that matches the Bissell website vs the separate model # for the “Power Steamer Extended Reach”…the Extended Reach doesn’t come with the fabric steamer and steam squeegee…or I got ripped off from this one box. I’m not sure yet lol
I hope this helps as I was scouring the internet trying to find out the same thing and couldn't find an answer!! I just bought the power steamer at Walmart. What my conclusion is the steam shot I believe is just a different color. It's grey instead of the power steamer, which is white. They come with the same attachments, and it has the exact same light and everything in the same spot. Labels and all.
i work for a company who sells to WM and amazon and basically you cant sell the same product on both or else amazon takes away your "buy button". that being said i bet theyre the exact same product with different names to avoid that happening
Need for strong steam functionality for grout cleaning
Most important is strength of the steam function (need to get floors clean efficiently).
For grout you need a steam cleaner like a McCullough or a dupray that has a nozzle that shoots a high powdered jet of steam.

Spin mop & bona mop with hard wood fluid for that nice shiny finish

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Skepticism around steam cleaners
For me, a big household steam cleaner falls into the same category as those electric scrub brushes: things influencers push because they get the Amazon commission.
Comparison of different steam mops
It heats up fast which I think is great when you just want to get cleaning over with.
Recommendations for alternative cleaning methods
I recommend the Bissell green machine or something similar to use on upholstery and carpets for pet stains.
Comparison shopping frustration
Both is roughly the dame price and just wanted to hear if anyone has experienced one of these models.
Comparison of different cleaning methods
I’m really considering the Bissell Spinwave since it does mop & steam at the same time, but I don’t know if it’s just gimmicky.
Discussion on cleaning methods
Currently I have 2 different ones in my Amazon cart
This would mainly be used for tile flooring.
Comparison of steamers to basic devices
Steamers are also very basic devices. Just a heating element and a little pressure tank with a handle and valve.
Advice on seeking refunds through Amazon support
Try Amazon support instead of the Bissell website; their chat issued me a refund on my order quickly.
User recommends Shark Genius Steam Pocket Mop for sanitizing
nothing beats a good steam mop in my experience.
The Shark Genius Steam Pocket Mop seems like a good pick with its steam blaster technology.
User switching from Shark steam mop to Bissell
My previous steam mop was a Shark, which served me well for almost a decade.
Concerns about using steam on vinyl plank flooring
Vinyl shrinks and expands quite a bit depending on temperature fluctuation.
I personally recommend a swiffer type cleaner. Its all we’ve used to clean jobs when complete and i also use it on my own floors.
Using vinegar and distilled water for maintenance
Both of these are great for mineral build up.
Using distilled water in a steam cleaner is a good thing.
If I run distilled water through a few cycles, will it somewhat clean it out?
Vinegar is the best clearer for most household appliances.
Inquiry about experience cleaning grout with Bissell
After getting the Bissell powerfresh, how was your experience cleaning the grout?
Comparison to other cleaning devices
Vacuum Steam Mop Combos Recommendation? I am looking to buy a vacuum steam mop for my apartment with vinyl floors and some areas with tiles.
It's been the ultimate accident machine, dog vomit, broken wine glass, or a dropped egg, all sucked up and then cleaned up.
Discussion on carpet cleaning frequency
it's amazing how much fresher it will smell when you come back.
Discussion about different steam cleaners and their effectiveness
Got a Shark steam mop and OMG. I might go over the floor again tonight.
I was so confused on why you had a little piece of carpeting and then I realized that’s the mop lmao I’m dumb.
Yeah, we have a Eureka envirosteamer and it’s amazing the crap on the floor you can’t see, have another go at it, nice work so far.
My carpets look brand new!

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Different types of steam cleaners exist
Modern vocabulary has two different types of machines called " steam" cleaners.
User experiences with other brands
I particularly appreciate hosing/steaming down the toilet and then steam mopping the bathroom floor, just so convenient.
All these surfaces cleaned and polished in an hour with a stack of rags that then go straight in the washing machine.
Most of the time I just let our vacuum robots vacuum and I’ll use Bona Spray mop on hardwood.
Skepticism towards steam mops
Disappointing, because mops and buckets are a royal pain in the neck.
They invented this technology. My mum has one since '84.
It's not bad for floors too, especially if there's something sticky.
General skepticism about steam cleaners
if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
User experiences troubleshooting issues
The unit that I have is model 1544A so my directions are specific to that.
This is so helpful!
User experiences with steam cleaning limitations and issues
it is really very limited and the kettle tips over, brushes are tiny, and steam ebbs and abates frequently!
Concerns about rental steam cleaners
Anyone have experience with this?
