Snoop's Take

Chemical Guys VRP is a versatile protectant designed to enhance and restore the appearance of vinyl, rubber, and plastic surfaces in vehicles. With its easy application and iconic new car scent, it provides effective protection against harmful weather conditions while delivering a deep black shine to various surfaces. Consumer sentiment reflects a mixed experience with Chemical Guys VRP. Many users appreciate the pleasant new car aroma, with one stating, "The shine is better and oh my God my car smells like grape for a few days!" However, some find it ineffective for certain applications or report issues like leaving oily residue if exposed to moisture soon after application. Overall, the feedback suggests that while it has its strengths, there are also significant concerns that potential buyers should consider. In conclusion, Chemical Guys VRP is recommended for those seeking a product with a nice scent and decent results for vinyl and plastic care, but users should be aware of its limitations and consider alternatives if looking for professional-grade outcomes.

it doesn't do any one thing real well and I was using it to dress tires, exterior plastics, and interior plastics.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Overall positive experience with product
it doesn't do any one thing real well and I was using it to dress tires, exterior plastics, and interior plastics.
Chemical Guys Are their products worth the cost? Or is it really just marketing?
TL:DR r/Detailing hates Chemical Guys
My friend uses them for his car and he’s never had a problem with them and his car looks quite good.
Effective for achieving a deep black look
The shine is better and oh my God my car smells like grape for a few days!
Stay away from chemicals guys. Only chemicals they have that are worth getting are their car soaps and VRP but even then there’s better stuff on the market.
Pleasant scent reminiscent of a new car
Chemical guys VRP (vinyl rubber plastic) dressing
Impressive results with the product
I normally steer clear of anything chemical guys but their VRP is probably their only good product
Agreed. Finally gave this stuff a go and I was really impressed.
Pleasant new car scent
CG VRP didn't last one rain?
Effective on vinyl, rubber, and plastic trims
vrp is great for vinyl, rubber, and plastic trims. I guess you can put them on the tires but tires get beat up so bad I wouldn't use them there, use a dedicated tire shine for that.
Works to expectations for various applications
any thing I've ever used of CG has worked to expectations.
I used Chemical Guys right now TODAY and I love the results.
Considered good value compared to alternatives
Chemical Guys VRP is more value for the price.
Highly regarded effectiveness
CG VRP is awesome stuff man.
Nice satin finish from VRP
their vrp is really good, gives a nice satin finish.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Considered ineffective for various uses
303 aerospace protectant works very well
Works so much better than Chemical Guys VRP, I think it's going to last longer too.
Leaves oily rainbow residue if wet within 12 hours
if the area gets wet within 12 hours or so of applying, it leaves this ugly oily rainbow residue.
Considered pricey
Kinda pricey. I tried it versus griots ceramic tire shine, perl and maybe 10 cheap products from the past before going into the professional world.
Washes off easily with water
since they are water based, they wash off with water.
Some products may be repackaged or diluted versions
A lot of Chemical Guys products, stated by ex-employees and whistleblowers, are repackaged other products or diluted variations of the same thing.
Perceived as overpriced compared to alternatives
Turtle wax sells a ton of great products for a fraction of the price.
Preference for competing brands like Meguiar's and P&S
I prefer meguiars over chemical guys any day of the week even though I have their citrus degreaser
Their products aren't convoluted, prices are great, and every product I've ever used of theirs has done the intended job well.
Cleaning properties felt diluted
The cleaning properties weren't very good. It felt very diluted in my experience.
Preference for specialized cleaners over all-in-one products
There are levels of good, better, and best. I’ve never found ‘all in one’ product to do everything well but most things okay.
Poor customer support
I hate chemical guys personally because their customer support is garbage and I don’t think they care about their customers
Not effective for professional results
Chemical guys is a real let down. So many products, and 99% of them aren’t even good compared to what’s out there.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on alternative products for tires
Leaves the tires looking wet and lasts me a week to two!

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Dilution technique discussed for better results
diluted I think it gives a little more time before evaporating which gives me more time to agitate before I need to wipe up or spray more cleaner.
I'll start with the dilution ratio fairly low and add concentrate until it's cleaning the way I want it to.
Discussion about seeking cheaper and better alternatives
Is there a product similar to Chemical Guys VRP but cheaper and better?
Discussion on alternatives to Chemical Guys products
Wondering what your favorite interior cleaner and tire/wheel cleaner from chemical guys is.
Discussion on tire cleaning techniques
I'm nervous about staining my wheels.
Yup, pretty much any chemical that's a tire cleaner.
I can vouch for CarPro ReTyre 🙏 that stuff is magic
Came here to say this p&s brake buster semi stiff brush and everything will be gone
Discussion on value comparison with AutoGlym
I generally find AutoGlym cheaper in terms of amount of product, but not sure how they perform in practical matters...
Discussion about proper maintenance techniques for wheels
Hi guys just wondering what do you guys like to use to clean and protect your rims/tires.
If your wheels are properly protected, then you shouldn't need aggressive chemicals to clean them, just car soap and good brush(es) and a mitt.
I have been testing Chemical Guys Tire Kicker (saw at wally-world) recently. I like how it dries, sort of a matte gloss mix and seems to last well for a water based product.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on brand loyalty and marketing strategies
Why do people obsess over Adam's Polishes and Chemical Guys? It's really been on my mind, why are people so obsessed over these big name products?
It's marketing. I'm sorry to say I'm a sucker for good marketing/product design. Adams quick detailer works a little bit better than Maguire's quik detailer ( for $6, Adams is like $16+) but make a limited coffee scent edition or a limited Halloween edition? Fucking sold.
Discussion about brand loyalty and marketing strategies
Are they overrated tho? Are they worth the price tag or are there better options out there?
Discussion on brand marketing and perception
They have stores all over the US. As you probably know, CG is a marketing brand first, detailing brand second.
Strong alcohol scent overpowering other scents
I immediately got a strong sent of alcohol after spraying it. Strong enough to overpower whatever scent they added to it.
