What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Produces high-quality shaved ice
The shaved ice is fantastic quality, and it’s easy to use & clean.
We froze and shaved some store bought zero-sugar lemonade and it turned out great! It was a slightly fluffier texture than the plain ice.
Ice cream machine that never puts sticks right
I have an ice cream machine, my MIL has a Ninja Creami so I can speak for both machines.
Easy to use with simple setup
It's not something we use especially often, as the setup/cleanup is rather involved, but my experience is that it works as advertised and does a pretty good job.
I've had a big, bulky shave ice machine for several years but it rarely comes out of storage when the weather warms up because it's so heavy and unwieldy.
I got a Creami and I love it. It’s perfect for my purpose.
They both make equally good ice cream. The kitchenaid is a bit of a mess to use.
Includes reusable cups for serving
YES!!! Especially if you live somewhere warm.
Great value for the price
It's great. No regrets.
It’s a good starter and if you only make batches once in a while, it’s good and an inexpensive option, although, my Whynter is my new top option.
Great for summer use
Thanks for the review.
Works well for making Italian Ice
It’s not big enough to start a stand but perfect for making it for yourself.

Where it needs some work!

Limited availability of additional supplies
Honestly, I'd go look at Wirecutter, which is where we found our Cuisinart recommendation 2 years ago (they do update):

Comparison to traditional shave ice
This is awesome. I was in Korea before and miss Bingsu, so would love to try this out sometime!

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Suggestions for using fresh fruit juice for flavor
why not just use fresh fruit juice?
Discussion on alternatives to electric ice shavers
The specifics about blenders seem to be lacking in recipes for slush and slurpee-type drinks, and I know a lot of blenders that crush ice don't really reach this super-fine texture.
This is the way.  A cheap manual shaved ice machine will make much better "snow" ice than a super expensive blender.
It definitely doesn't shave the ice down into a very fine snow or slush.
Mention of blenders that can handle ice for snow cones
A ninja blender but a vitamix s better but more expensive
we have a blendtec it work great on ice .Made many snow cones
Discussion about Italian Ice making
What machine makes Italian Water Ice? I live in a super hot and humid area in Asia and miss having my water ice (Italian Ice) on hot summer days like I did back when I was a kid in the states.
Do you have a blender or food processor? I think you can just blend some fruit with ice and sweetener and let freeze.
A soft serve machine would work nicely, but they tend to make small batches (1-2 kg).
Not the same as Italian Water Ice, but Hawaiian Shave iced is just blocks of Ice that get shaved on a simple turn table type machine.
Discussion about cocktail ice preferences
For tiki drinks - and most other cocktails - you want crushed ice, not shaved ice.
Interest in using for ice cones in cocktails
Inspired to ask the question of the group when I saw a lot of activity discussing the cuisinart machine in a Facebook tiki group

Lack of available flavor concentrates for shave ice
I'm investing in a shave ice machine for home use and would like some suggestions for flavor concentrates if you'd all be so kind as to help me?
None of the main retailers sell syrups. Had to get special order from vendors like Sysco & Cherry Co.
Maybe try the local juice syrups.. they aren’t very good for you but they pack a huge flavor.
Interest in flavors from specific local brands
You should talk to shimazu they have the most interesting flavors.
Shimazu has the best flavors. I think the ones in the fridge are already pre-mixed with condensed milk, super ono.
Tamuras has a bunch of flavor options.
Location challenges for sourcing shave ice supplies
I mean I don't see why you couldn't be from Hawaii and have never visited a liquor store that has only one location, especially if you live on another island, but yeah I'm not from there.
Discussion on local availability of shaved ice
Shave ice (or snow cones)? I've been having a craving for shaved ice - y'know, like a snow cone, with a whole bunch of flavored syrups to choose from.
I wish someone would see the need and open a business locally.
There used to be a shave ice place on fort Jessie Rd but it's now the little pizza place :(
Gibson City has Stone Cold Shaved Ice.
Discussion on maintenance practices for ice machines
I never have ice if I can help it.
Ewwwww 😭 I worked at a place and we cleaned like the ice cube holder box but I don't think we ever cleaned the part where the ice is actually made...
Dude even at the shitty IHOP I worked at we had scheduled defrost and clean for all the ice machines.
It falls on poor management and poor training and not something I let slip myself, but that’s only from seeing what happens when you’re not diligent with checking it thoroughly.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns about cleanliness of ice machines in general
Kinda grossed me out.
There’s always a disgusting amount of black slime mold in the ice forming tray.
The melted ice was worse 100% of the time.
Welp…I’ll no longer be getting ice…
Health concerns regarding ice consumption
the ice machine is where most restaurants get their violations at.
I have merely been asked “how often do you clean the ice machine?” but I have never had a health inspector actually inspect the ice machine.
Personal anecdotes about ice machine cleanliness
Had to subtly walk the whole machine through FOH to clean it up out back.
The other machine I checked has a negative number for the potable water.
Equipment was filthy
