Snoop's Take

The EBL AA 2300mAh (8 Pack) and AAA 1100mAh (8 Pack) Ni-MH Rechargeable Batteries and Charger Combo is designed to power your everyday devices while also offering dual USB charging for additional gadgets. It combines a set of rechargeable batteries with a versatile charger, promising convenience and cost savings in one package. User sentiment is a mixed bag, with some users applauding its affordability—comments like 'if you're trying to be frugal, grab yourself some 1100mAh EBL AAA NiMH's, I use them all the time in my AAA devices and have had great results' resonate strongly. However, a significant number of voices criticize deceptive capacity ratings, charger detection issues, and overall longevity, noting that 'EBL (like many other cheap brands) outright lies about the capacity.' Such feedback paints a picture of a product that may deliver on price but struggles with consistency and reliability. In conclusion, while the EBL rechargeable combo offers an attractive upfront cost and multifunctional charging options, its performance is too inconsistent for high-demand applications. It is best suited for casual or low-drain uses, with a clear caution for those who require guaranteed longevity and precise capacity claims.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Affordable option
EBL are the cheaper option if you wanna save a buck, but long term eneloop is best.
Reliable performance for high-drain devices
Very consistent and good life span.
Affordable option for frugal users
If you're trying to be frugal, grab yourself some 1100mAh EBL AAA NiMH's, I use them all the time in my AAA devices and have had great results.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Deceptive capacity ratings
EBL (like many other cheap brands) outright lies about the capacity.
Amazon Basics easily beats them in both cost:capacity and cost:battery, and their rating isn't entirely made up.
most modern EBL batteries aren't what the company claims.
Hopefully it will remain only a figurative “bang” and not a manufacturing flaw induced bang.
Charger reliability issues
Maybe they have developed such high internal resistance that the charger does not detect any rise in voltage when it starts to apply charging current.
Worked for around 3 months and now it's worthless. shows error more than anything else.
Once in a while the batteries will randomly take a charge, but mostly they all just blink red (error) or no LED at all.
Battery durability issues (sleeve splitting)
These EBL batteries have very high capacity, but are in fact a bit oversized compared to a standard alkaline.
Deceptive capacity ratings and rapid self‐discharge in high capacity cells
I bought these EBL branded rechargeables (2800mAh) and they don't seem to last all that long.
higher capacity in NiMH is bad.
Regular NiMH cells lose 20% of charge in the first day after charging.
Batteries fail to power devices despite showing charge
AA batteries show as charged, but don't work in any device.
five of the eight I have don't get any reading from my multi meter, that means they are dead, right?
I charged 4 of the eight batteries for about 2 hours, and they gave off zero light in a known good flashlight.
Depending on the device, they might not have enough voltage to work.
Inconsistent quality and poor longevity
Literally every single one I've bought I've had to toss at maybe a quarter or third of what their expected life should have been.
2 out of that pack were total duds.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Alternative battery recommendations
Top quality are Panasonic Eneloop batteries, not the Pro unless you have a very specific need.
Thank you! I will try them next.
For Enloops, you don't want a fast charger.
Normal Enloop have been great for me.
General battery usage advice
You should avoid high capacity NiMH in low drain devices. Also the higher the capacity the fewer charge/discharge cycles available.
Alternative rechargeable battery/charger brands
you can use rechargeable Ni-Zn they commercially boast for replacing 1.5V battery non-rechargeable.
Keeppower makes a 1.5v 14500 battery (AA) as well as a 1.5v 10440 (AAA).
XTAR makes excellent chargers and recently came out with 1.5v rechargeable AA and AAA.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Confusing capacity ratings (mWh vs mAh)
the makers of this junk use it only to confuse people who are used to the mAh ratings used by NiMh manufacturers.
They're typically very low capacity. They mostly specify their capacity in millwatt hours to make them look comparable to NiMh which specify capacity in mAh.
the makers of this junk use [mWh] only to confuse people.
They don't because all they want to do is confuse people.
Charger indicator behavior confusion
the red flashing is it repairing an over discharged battery.
What's weird is the flashing stopped as soon as I plugged it into another adapter port.
Hooray! Yes, welcome to the club!
the lights of red were flashing and I thought o mo but come to fine put it was still a full charge.
Recharging disposable alkaline batteries is risky
Disposable alkalines are really not a good idea to try and recharge.
Alkalines that have been recharged have a very high probability of leaking.
