Floss picis are as effective as regular string floss and a million times easier to use--which means you're more likely to floss in the first place.

Positive Feedback

1) I'd prefer to get compostable floss, so I use silk. Is there a silk flood that is thick enough or is this not as good, in general, as plastic flosses?

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Floss picks are easier to use than string floss
Floss picis are as effective as regular string floss and a million times easier to use--which means you're more likely to floss in the first place.
I use regular floss, but the picks really are so much easier
If it is a choice between a floss pick and not flossing then 1000% yes it's effective lol.
I feel like glide did not do a very good job at cleaning my gums the way these other alternatives do.
Using floss picks is better than not flossing at all
My hygienist says they are as good, and even if they weren't doing something is better than doing nothing.
Floss picks help achieve cleaner teeth
Burst is black as well n I love that it shows me what’s being removed!
It's nice and comfortable but it seems like its not grippy enough to be simulating gums and removing bacteria effectively.
The gums are sort of bruised right now.
Best floss to use? I have been using Oral B Glide floss over the past 1 year since it's flat and gets easily between the cramped spaces in my teeth.
Floss picks are game changing for flossing habits
Does anyone reuse dental floss picks? I keep hearing that we shouldn't reuse floss picks because of hygiene reasons, but reusing interdental brushes is not a problem, so what makes floss different to interdental brushes in terms of hygiene?
These things are game changing, I hated flossing and honestly couldn’t be bothered until my dentist gave me one of these.
Yess. After getting one of these I finally got in the habit of flossing nightly and don't have to lie to my dentist about my flossing habits anymore.
Flossing is fantastic as a preventative measure. You have healthy teeth and gums, you floss every day, your teeth and gums stay healthy, no worries.
Cost-effective as one bag lasts a long time
I use them until they break and replace. One bag can last me a year easily.
Floss picks are easier to use than traditional string floss
I highly recommend cocofloss. Every dentist, orthodontist, and hygienist I’ve spoken to uses it themselves.
100%. I switched because of the PFOAs too, and I like it better than my previous “bad” floss.
+1 for cocofloss!!! Love it!
Floss picks are convenient for on-the-go use
floss picks are great to keep in the car or in your purse if you’re out and about and you get food stuck in your teeth.
So first I saw one of these: Listerine UltraClean Access Flosser WITH Refill Pack.
Flossing consistently leads to healthier gums
my gums stopped bleeding after about a week of consistent flossing.
2 weeks of flossing can show a big difference.
my breath seemed fresher longer after brushing in the morning
Flossing helps reduce bleeding gums
good to know flossing will have good *out come!
Flossing improves breath freshness
I need to floss to get at this. The plaque in between your teeth near the gum will not be removed from simply chewing gum or even brushing your teeth.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Some users experience shredding with certain floss types
1) I'd prefer to get compostable floss, so I use silk. Is there a silk flood that is thick enough or is this not as good, in general, as plastic flosses?
There is no clinical relevance of the chewing gum removing bacteria.
Floss picks can damage gums if used incorrectly
Yes floss picks can damage the soft tissue if used incorrectly.
Floss picks are great for convenience, if you’re getting into the habit of flossing.
Some users experience gum sensitivity
that never happened for me my gums are extremely sensitive
Every kind, yeah. My gums bleed a lot when I floss, I always figured the itching was related.
Flossing can be difficult for tight teeth
my gums itch for days afterwards.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Mention of water picks as an alternative
sure. patients who i've seen for a while have less plaque after using the waterpik, so in a 3 to 6 month period there is less build up than they had previously.
I think she’s saying the interdental brush is much better than a waterpik.
Discussion on reusing dental floss picks
There is no reason you can’t wash and reuse, but a reusable handle will reduce even more waste, just like with brushes.
My dental hygienist said you can reuse flossers until they start to fray.
Discussion about water flossing as an alternative
Doesn't replace normal flossing, but it feels amazing afterwards.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

Discussion on alternatives to GUM floss picks
Wish Glide was free of PFAs.
I like Cocofloss. A little pricey for dental floss but the flavors are fun and it glides well and is PFAS free.
It does a really good job “scrubbing” between them IMO, so while it’s different than Glide, I ended up liking it better!
Cocofloss is made of polyester filaments infused with microcrystalline wax, coconut oil, essential oils, and food-grade aromas that meet the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) Standards.
Discussion on flossing techniques and difficulties
Sorry that my post is a little bit messy, but I'm really trying to get use to floss even though it's a little bit painful at first.
Being sore and achy when you first start flossing regularly is completely expected.
You paid for a cleaning. A tutorial on flossing properly should always be part of the new patient experience if they can see some help is needed.
If you push through it you’ll notice it feels less achy with each day, especially if you’ve just had a cleaning.
Alternative products mentioned
I really like a Reach Gum wax floss. It glide enough but not too waxy where you cant grab on to the biofilm underneath the gum and between teeth.
Discussion on proper flossing techniques
Are the picks “good enough” because at least I am flossing?
I rinse them every few teeth!! I'm near my sink anyway since I floss right before brushing.
You just have to make sure you slide the floss under the gum line into the sulcus and not just jam it into the papilla.
Should I floss to the bottom of the tooth where it allows me to go because on the front teeth it is kind of painful to go to the bottom and my front gums hurt every time I floss?
Discussion on flossing techniques and preferences
Only surface and gum cleaning or does food and plaque gather in this part of the teeth (I'm really sorry if this is a silly question, I can't find information on this - Only surface and gum cleaning)
i use floss and interdental brushes. I am a hygienist and have noticed people who use the waterpik have much less plaque than before they used it.
This is what I do/ use, but you gotta find what works for you.
i think they are great, they are pretty similar to what we use. Just be careful around the soft tissue, it's easy to slip and cause a bit of damage ( I would never recommend a patient use one but my family, friends and i all use one for ourselves )
Discussion on excessive flossing frequency
I thought I would ask y'all since we floss so much.
Flossing 3 times a day sounds a little excessive, I was advised to floss once a day before bed so as to not irritate my gums.
I'm only thorough when at home.
Preference for other brands of floss
There's no waxy coating and has a nice minty flavour, plus you can get them in packs of 3!
def recommend.
Discussion on floss brands used
Perhaps one brand for the front one for the sides. As if I'm not already so high maintenance enough with my oral hygiene routine atm.
I use Glide - it’s not hard and cheap feeling like others I’ve used and they have regular or mint!.
My teeth are all crowded, so I have a hard time flossing with regular floss.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on preferences for different floss brands
I use Xlent. It's expandable and has xylitol. It's black so you can see what you're getting out. I absolutely love it.
DrTung's Smart Floss!
Discussion on preferences for various floss brands
Really?!?!! It is my favourite one... I'll have to research and maybe stop using it too
I use listerine ultraclean (reach) and its the best floss I have ever used.
I use the Toms of Maine flat floss. It's not tested on animals, which was important to me and no forever chemicals.
Discussion on the hygiene of using disposable floss picks
I do rinse halfway or if anything noticeable is on it.
String takes a little practice, though.
You should be fine if you're using both waterpik and floss picks.
Concerns regarding the itching and bleeding during flossing
That's super interesting, I've never heard that. Does that happen with all different kinds of floss?
Discussion on flossing and gum health concerns
I don't know if it's because less germs there now or if I have advancing gingivitis :(
Listerine Gentle Gum Care, or any woven floss works best if your teeth aren't extremely tight.
