Snoop's Take

The INTEX 68347EP Seahawk 2 Inflatable Boat Set is designed for two-person use and is ideal for fishing and casual boating adventures. Featuring durable PVC construction and including accessories like aluminum oars and fishing rod holders, this inflatable boat aims to provide both convenience and fun on the water. Consumer feedback highlights the Seahawk 2's strengths, particularly its affordability and user-friendly design. Many users appreciate the portability, with one stating, "the pros are obviously storage and portability," while others have enjoyed fishing experiences, noting that "it goes like a dream" on smaller lakes. However, concerns about durability in rough conditions and potential leaks are also common among users, with some describing it as a "toy" rather than a serious boat. Given the mixed feedback, the INTEX Seahawk 2 is recommended for casual use on sheltered waters rather than for serious boating or fishing endeavors. It excels in providing a fun, affordable option for those looking to enjoy leisurely days on the water, but potential buyers should be aware of its limitations regarding durability and safety in tougher conditions.

Is there something else that the seahawk has to justify the ~50% price increase over the challenger?

Positive Feedback

They are basically overpriced pool toys.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Fishing-oriented design with added features
Is there something else that the seahawk has to justify the ~50% price increase over the challenger?
I will vouch for the seahawk 4 because thats what I have and I love it.
I would definitely recommend getting the Seahawk over the challenger.
If it gets you out on the water... It's a boat.
Includes aluminum oars for easy paddling
How safe are these low cost kayaks for use in the ocean and is the paddle reliable?
Seahawk 4 Boat Build for fishing small lakes
Storage and portability benefits
The pros are obviously storage and portability.
They are pretty awesome.
I don't have the storage space for a full hard body fishing kayak.
Affordable price point
The Intex Excursion is pretty incredible and at it's price point, extremely difficult to argue with.
Its awesome. Really freaks out some lifeguards.
Fun for casual use
If nothing else, it'd be fun, and ultimately your motivation to save and buy a more appropriate vessel.
Easy to patch leaks
They get lots of leaks, but it's easy to patch them up.
Provides a fun experience on the water
Might not be a "real" boat, but here she is. Caught dinner and made it home safe.
If you floated on the water, caught fish and made it home, it’s a “real” boat.
Great for fishing small lakes
It goes like a dream. Great for the smaller inland lakes around me.
Long battery life for extended use
2 batteries lasts me the entire day of normal usage. With some battery to spare at the end of the day.
Customizable with added features
I’ve done the exact same thing with my excursion 5. Have taken it out three times so far, love it.
Affordable option for casual boating
I absolutely fell in love! I decided I needed to get my own boat.
I can't mind a more credible inflatable boat than an Intex for less than $500.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Heavier and bulkier when deflated
They are basically overpriced pool toys.
Quality of material may not withstand rough conditions
Absolute garbage.
Save your money, you can find used 12 ft jon boats or kayaks pretty reasonably priced on fb marketplace.
Does the intex hold air well, how many times have you used it with no leaks?
make no mistake those Intex inflatables are toys, not boats.
Potential for leaks based on past experiences
if my experience with air mattresses is anything to go by, I'm counting on that pinhole, several-hour leak.
I would rather spend 8 hrs in a Greenland kayak than 90 mins in the Intex.
I was just afraid of holes using it fishing.
Not safe for open water use
Sorry to tell you but essentially, they are toys and are only really safe in sheltered waters.
Even Intex itself says these kayaks are only for "lakes and mild rivers".
Definitely not a sea kayak.
Limited buoyancy if one chamber fails
If one of the chambers deflates, you will sink.
Not in a functional way. it may offer you some bouyancy but you are essentially going to be immersed and without a functional craft to sort yourself out.
Durability issues with construction materials
I've been reading reviews saying Intex stuff shows up with small tears in the vinyl, or the vinyl tears easily when rolling it up for storage.
the intex are cheaply built.
They aren't at all durable.
Not suitable for open water use
the Challenger makes this sport very affordable and accessible to people who don’t have the means to transport rigid kayaks.
Struggles in wind conditions
Any type of wind you’re assed out.
But if you have to paddle any type of distance you might end up struggling if you’re going against the wind and that’s a real safety concern.
Concerns about quality and durability in sun exposure
the sun eventually ate it up (I’m in Texas) but a 10lb plastic coated dumbbell was all the anchor I needed to keep me anchored and stable.
Poor performance in windy conditions
Mainly there's no speed and maneuver is difficult so you're going to expend more energy getting where you want to be and staying there.
Takes too long to pump
I feel like it's something you'd use once then realize it takes too long to pump/pops in some random place and you're out a few hundred bucks.
Yea this is definitely a “use once and be way too drunk to deal with it so you just throw it away” kind of thing.
If it pops out in the lake, it collapses and swallows whoever's on it and takes them straight to the bottom faster than they can free themselves.
Heavy and cumbersome to store
The cleanup is worse if you're on sand.
No one thinks about how dirty that would get too when it’s out of season and where the hell you’d store it.
Not practical for frequent use
You must make the plan around using it, so your lazy ass won’t touch that thing for years once you try it one time.
Material quality not suitable for rough conditions
I picked up the green 2 person inflatable from Intex last year when I took my friends and their 5 kids out.
This is a fun, cheap kayak.
Not suitable for serious use
I mean, if you're just screwing around in a backyard pond but I wouldn't use it in serious manner.
Concerns about performance in rough conditions
The boat won't submerge entirely, but you will be to your neck in water.
My preference would be stay on sheltered waters with it.
Requires planning and effort to use
The first time we went we had to carry the bitch over a mile.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion on alternatives to Intex inflatables
By the time you pay for all those materials you could have just bought a used zodiak or a used canoe.
A folding boat is probably longer than you'd like, but being skinny when folded might make it work.
If you've never built a boat before, you're going to have trouble building that one.
Just buy a cheap sheet of plywood to use for the floor and folding lawn chairs for seats.
Discussion on alternative inflatable boats and their durability
The cheap ass rafts that you get on Amazon should never be fished out of or taken into more than waste deep water.
I fished out of one for a few years, it did me well.
Advice on the limitations of inflatable boats in different water conditions
If the lakes are small enough, a float tube maybe easier.
4 man is really a 2 man raft!
Discussion on the challenges of drying fabric-covered boats
I'd really like to avoid the mold if possible and be able to get everything dried and put away in about 30 minutes with a few microfiber towels.
Fabric covered boats will always be a bigger pain to dry than models that are straight up vinyl or pvc.
anything that has fabric coverings and a removable floor, drop-stitched or otherwise, is going to be a pain to clean and dry.
Advice on safety measures for using inflatable boats
Forget about swimming half a mile in the North Sea or Channel. You'll lose limb function before getting to shore.
I figured I could at least get myself and the boat back to shore with some fins on my feet, using the boat as a buoyancy aid.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on modifications for better performance
Inflatable boat plywood mods - Intex Excursion 5 Mods.
The pictures show how you can draw the boat outline.
I've been thinking about adding a plywood floor to my own inflatable boat but I'm wondering about how it will affect portability.
General exploration of inflatable kayak experiences
That thing is heavy as fuck and I don't usually take it more than 100 yards from where I park.
Concerns about using inflatable boats
Literally just buy a small fishing boat.
Oh you have to hand paddle.
