Snoop's Take

The Intex King Air Mattress is a deluxe inflatable bed engineered to deliver a king-sized sleeping surface with a built-in pump that inflates in just a few minutes. It boasts Dura-Beam Comfort-Plush technology that allows for adjustable firmness and enhanced durability. Community feedback is as divided as it is candid. Multiple users exclaim, 'I sleep like the dead,' praising the mattress for providing a rock-solid sleep experience, while others lament issues like deflation overnight and the inconvenience of a pump that demands a wall outlet. Some reviews highlight its long-lasting durability, yet the built-in pump design garners consistent criticism. These insights paint a picture of a product that is both reliable and flawed. In expert opinion, the mattress earns a cautious recommendation within its category. Its proven durability and comfort make it a solid option for many, although its dependency on mains power may deter some users. Overall, if you value longevity and are willing to compromise on pump flexibility, this product stands as a commendable choice.

I've had the same one probably more than 8 years, and it's been used several times.

Positive Feedback

The only issue is power, since the air pump is built into the mattress and requires a standard wall outlet.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Long-lasting durability over years
I've had the same one probably more than 8 years, and it's been used several times.
Comfortable sleep quality
I sleep like the dead.
I also slept like the dead.
We also sleep like the dead.
Reliable durability and adjustable firmness with Intex models
Never leaked (to the point I ended up on the floor), if I needed to make it firmer I'd just turn it on and fill it up some more.
Quality makes a difference, but its ultimately personal preference.
its been to 5 burns and several other festivals, and it is great.
I finally have 2 air mattresses that are totally solid.
Handles pet usage well (Intex specific)
I use the Intex brand. Long story, but even at home an Intex $18 camping air mattress is my bed and the dog sleeps on it there as well.
Long‐lasting durability under proper use
I found the sheet protected the mattress from things that might puncture it, plus it was more comfortable.
I can vouch for this particular - VERY DURABLE stuff.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Built-in pump requires a wall outlet
The only issue is power, since the air pump is built into the mattress and requires a standard wall outlet.
Air retention issues with deflation over time
after sitting there for a week it was no different then when i first set it up.
Deflated in the morning. Not completely deflated but enough to be uncomfortable and a Pain in the Arse.
Uncomfortable and stiff airbed experience (Intex Durabeam)
I found it to be very uncomfortable - hard and stiff. Very unnatural.
Air retention issues during sleep
literally the second night I noticed it was deflating in my sleep (loved waking up bascially on the floor)
Built‐in pump has low performance
I’ve got the FlexTail pump, Charges via USB C and is a pukka bit of kit.
This! The Flextail Max Pump 3 is amazing.
Built-in pump requires a wall outlet and lacks manual pump option
You bought the built in AC pump version so there is no place for a manual or battery powered pump.
My mattress has an internal pump but will accept an external pump through a valve in the cap.
But a simple 12v cigarette lighter plug with a 120 inverter pumps it up fast.
The new intex do not have external pump options on the built in mattresses.

Self inflating FTW, no need for an air pump at 3AM.

I would take a cot + mattress topper over an air mattress any day.
Air mattress works best if you inflate it wait a couple of hours and reinflate just before bed.
would you have any recommendations?
it pairs well with an inflatable mattress pad or yoga mat in a pinch.

Alternative pump recommendations discussed
Low pressure, recreational air toy/mattress pump with universal fitting found on almost any air mattress pump.
Thank you, that clears things up!
Air pump. Water pump would make it too heavy.
A friend of mine uses a Flextail pump, it's tiny and USB powered.
Alternative power source recommendations for inflating air mattresses
A air pump for a mattress will take around 10-30 watts and can be run off a dc to ac inverter plugged into your car.
I just want the power station to do the work.
Works pretty well.
It's enough to run my built-in pump Queen Air mattress and charge my phone.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
General air mattress and camping advice
I'll never camp with anything else.
A quick puff or two before I actually go to bed will inflate it back up to the firmness I like.
Small price to pay for such comfort!
air mattresses as a general rule suck, they usually have negative R values (insulation) and are just uncomfortable.
Recommendations for alternative air mattresses
the built-in pump inflates and deflates in just minutes, plus it has this cool feature where it maintains constant pressure throughout the night so you don't end up on the floor by morning!
It seems to have a good reputation for durability.
Like I said it's spendy but 100% worth it if you want to upgrade.
it’s very comfortable, offers good insulation, and holds its firmness for days on end.
Preference for foam or memory foam setups for improved sleep comfort
Foam mattress pads are a blessing. Ever since I’ve bought them, I sleep much more comfy at night than I used air mattresses.
After about three days of waking up with my butt and back on concrete, I realized the super thick rugs were actually comfy anyway.
I have a 2 inch memory foam topper, this makes a world of difference when using air mattresses.
long story short blow up mattresses just aren’t that comfortable in the 20-30 I’ve experienced over my lifetime.
Recommendation to consider warranty and return policies
Get one with a warranty or a return policy incase you wont like it.
General air mattress and bedding alternatives
I slept decent on it with my wife for a couple nights.
Consider buying a $50 2 inch memory foam mattress topper from Amazon.
I was very pleasantly surprised.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
General concerns about air mattress leakage and material quality
The problem isn’t my desire to sleep with pointy objects, it’s the cheap material companies like Coleman use for air mattresses.
The first thing I do after I buy an air mattress is stab it with a knife so it knows I'm in charge of deciding when it starts leaking.
Varied experiences with pet interactions on air mattresses (general)
My 80lb dog walks around on the air mattresses in our tent and we have never had an issue.
They've never popped an air mattress, though they all love running around on it because it is bouncy.
They won't puncture it unless they're way long (in which case you kinda deserve it).
