Snoop's Take

The My Arcade Atari Pocket Player Pro is a handheld portable video game console that brings together 100 classic Atari games in a compact design. With its 2.75-inch color display and ergonomic design, it offers an authentic retro gaming experience on the go, making it a collector's item for fans of the Atari legacy. Consumer feedback highlights the nostalgia associated with Atari games, with one user noting, "I like the way it looks but I still have very little desire to play most Atari games nowadays." While many appreciate the unique controls and the sleek design, some users express concerns about the button placement and wish for additional features, such as the ability to add more games. One user mentioned, "They could fit at least 4 more under the d-pad and a few more shoulder buttons on the right LMAO," indicating a desire for improved functionality. Overall, while the My Arcade Atari Pocket Player Pro is recommended for collectors and retro gaming enthusiasts, potential buyers should consider the limitations in gameplay experience and button configuration before making a purchase.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Good for emulating retro consoles
The Atari Gamestation pro is a good solution for emulating 8 bit and 16 bit retro consoles.
Been thinking about a way to somehow change/alter the firmware for the My Arcade Pocket Player Pros to change the game inside and make custom My Arcade machines out of it.
Sleek profile and design
I am quite drawn to the sleek profile of this machine and the paddle-joysticks.
Atari games hold nostalgic value
I like the way it looks but I still have very little desire to play most Atari games now a days.

Some pretty unique controls on that, the spinner, trackball, even the number pad.
Possibility of adding more games through modding
now it's a DATA BEAST!
Excellent form factor of the device
However, the form factor of the physical device is excellent.

I was able to hack the My Arcade Contra Pocket Player to run additional games and emulators.

The mini arcade version looks better imo with two joystics and 8 buttons in two rows.
Buttons placement is not ideal for gameplay
The new ones coming out moved the buttons.
Lack of appeal for modern gaming
I just don't see the appeal.
Previous product quality issues raise skepticism
Although this is their first try at handheld so maybe they'll put effort in this time.
D-pad quality concerns
I want it but that d pad looks so jank
Some users haven't powered them up
I have two and haven't bothered to power them up, hah.
No external game loading capability
This means you're stuck with the subpar games already included.

Wish we could add roms to it
Disappointment with gameplay experience
Yeah, I can see it being a novelty that I grab but never actually play.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about product reviews
They are not 100% arcade accurate but close.
Discussion about alternative controllers
I love it especially since the firmware upgrade. The controllers suck though.
Discussion on arcade versions versus console versions
it's just an arcade shell that most games use, with a different rom and art work.
Curiosity about product quality and game quantity
The low price surprised me, so I'm curious how the quality is and if you get 2 controllers with the system.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Possibility of hacking for more games
If it can be hacked or ends up running more games than just the ones that came out on Atari home consoles, I might be more interested.
Discussion on hacking and modding My Arcade devices
At the end of the day, these My Arcade devices are just running emulators with roms.
Discussion on alternative, more versatile handhelds
They are kind of a one trick pony. You could spend $45 on a handheld that plays many, many more games, is more portable, and has better controls.
Discussion on alternative handhelds for arcade games
I have grown up in the arcades of the 80s and my gaming nostalgia lies with Asteroids, Moon Lander, Ghosts and Goblins, Bubble Bobble and the like.
That thing is TINY.
The Miyoo Mini plays arcade games great, the main negative for me on arcade is that it does not have an analog input.
Its roughly the size of the gameboy pocket.
Discussion on modding and firmware for retro handhelds
My Arcade Gamer V hack? I recently bought a lame retro player for like $5. I wanted to know if these
Crack it open and send a picture. Many of these use an internal micro SD card slot.
If I send a photo can you tell me what I would need to mod it to play game boy color games?
hey know this is an old post but i do have pics of the inside there seems to be just a main chip and
Discussion on jailbreaking for additional games
How do I jailbreak this thing? I wanna put retroarch on it and some gba games.
Dose It work for real?

Comparison with other brands
I'd rather get one of the Astro City mini units.
I don't understand Sega's insistence on putting console versions in things like arcade cabinet replicas.
Curiosity about value as gifts
I was considering grabbing a few as Christmas gifts for some of my friends, but I wasn't sure if they were worthwhile systems or just nostalgia bait.
Discussion about the device's perceived value
Overall, the build quality impressed me.
It's one of those cheap novelty devices where I know it's a ripoff, and I'd be better off playing any other version of the game.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Skepticism about My Arcade's products
All their products just look scammy/rip-offs, especially for the price.
I gotta wonder at the version of the game on this landscape-oriented screen.
I love these sorts of things.
I got it for like $13 so I can’t complain.
Curiosity about the device's operational integrity
for this price what the heck right .. add other controllers and CFW if available.
Skepticism about the longevity of Atari games
Adventure is still an interesting game that i think holds up pretty well.
Skepticism about My Arcade's product capabilities
When you look at capabilities using rkdevtool, it says that most of them are disabled.
Perception of the product as a novelty item
It's a novelty thing. I have these more for display.
