Snoop's Take

The Panasonic Electric Razor for Men, model ES3831K, is a cordless, lightweight shaver designed for both wet and dry use. With an ergonomic grip and a powerful 8,500 rpm motor, it promises a comfortable and efficient shaving experience. Consumer sentiment reflects a strong appreciation for the shave quality and durability of this razor. Users have noted, "it’s amazing… Shaves just like a non electric razor," and many mention consistent performance over time, with one user stating, "Not once in the 10 years of owning the Panasonic wet dry did I ever replace anything." However, some users have highlighted issues with achieving a close shave on coarse facial hair, indicating mixed results with different hair types. Overall, the Panasonic Electric Razor is recommended for those seeking a reliable electric shaver that performs well for sensitive skin and delivers a good shaving experience, although users with thicker facial hair may want to consider their options carefully.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Impressive shaver performance
It’s amazing… Shaves just like a non electric razor.
Nothing beats this thing for face.
Still works great.
Consistent shaving performance over time
Not once in the 10 years of owning the Panasonic wet dry did I ever replace anything.
Even now with the actual blade breaking off and the foil cover wearing down, it's still shaved as close as it did on the first day.
Effective for sensitive skin and thicker beards
They do great on combo of steel bristle beard and relatively sensitive skin.
Impressive shaving capability
I used it dry yesterday and it did a fantastic job.
The Arc 5 is amazing and gives the best shave Ive ever had.
they are the best razor I've used to date.
Effective for sensitive skin
I LOVE my Panasonic foil razor. It prevents (almost) ANY accidental cuts on actively developing/healing whiteheads.
Works great for long-term use
Works great. I do wish it shaved a little closer, but I’m good with the “Jason Statham” look.
As long as you lubricate it, it's solid.
Only thing I’ve had to replace was the charging cord.
Solid performance with proper care
It’s pretty good. The only issue I’ve had with it is that lubricating it after each use is essential.
But a drop of razor oil on the blade at the start of each shave will fix 2 of your issues.
Effective for trimming body hair
It’s amazing on the bikini area though.
It’s good for grooming body hair but a very poor choice for face hair.
Convenient and easy to use
I really like it, it's convenient, easy to use, rinses clean, it fixes a lot of the problems with other electric shavers I've used.
Might even try it in the garden.
Provides a close shave without irritation
It give me an extremely close shave with zero of the razor burn.
It's a great electric razor in general, but it doesn't come close to giving as close a shave as foil razors and the like.
Lightweight and portable for travel
It’s bad ass.
Great performance from made in Japan models
Both are made in Japan, but I heard some other Panasonic models are made in China.
I've had the made in Japan one for about a year now and it's great.
Preference for Panasonic over Braun shavers
I will need to look into Panasonic more seriously.
Great shaving performance with no irritation
I did not get any irritation from the closer shave as well and I have sensitive skin so I am loving it.
Love it. It is big but gives a great shave.
Close and fast shave compared to Braun Series 9
The Panasonic Arc 5 without any doubt shaves closer and faster than Braun Series 9.
Convenient travel solution with USB charging
I really couldn't stand packing an extra charger in my bag and this solution has worked great.
Effective for daily use
No electric razor is going to give you a razor-close shave. This does the job well enough though.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Requires regular lubrication to maintain performance
I’ve never used it unplugged because it is weak as hell without being plugged in.
Limited lifespan with common failures
Great idea that just needs to be improved and relaunched.
My first of these died after about 4 years.
Not a close enough shave for some users
I found that it just wasn't a close enough shave.
Not effective for coarse facial hair
I had to use it “against the grain” to get it to cut my facial hair, and would end up with a rash the next day.
It just wouldn’t cut my facial hair, which was kind of the whole point of it.
Yes, it leaves a little stubble on my face too.
Fragile cutting head that easily breaks
When it worked it was awesome, but I wouldn’t classify it was BIFL.
it appears to be extremely weak where it pivots and any accidental fall risks breaking the head.
Requires multiple passes for a close shave
It's terrible for trimming beard to a certain length.
Tried it on my neck without a guard once & its didn’t trim nearly close enough.
Braun Series 9 struggles with longer beards
I am amazed by how awful the Braun Series 9 Pro is... do not get it.
High-pitched noise from electric shavers
It's loud, unpleasant, and you never really get used to it.
Replacement blades are expensive
I will say I had no issue getting a smooth shave with the original blade.
Extra charger is inconvenient
What bothered me was not the shaver but the extra charger that works only for the shaver.
Not as close as traditional razors
Of course electric razors will never be as good as regular razors however, I want to try to get away with using one instead of dragging a blade across my face every day.
Requires regular maintenance
Only complaint I had is their cleaning solution is hard to find, and sometimes the base quits drawing fluid.
Ineffective on short facial hair
the problem is, it doesn't cut my facial hair. Like...at all.
It's not cutting the hair at all, I wouldn't think my stubble is too long, just a few days growth.
Electric razors might not work if you have several days stubble.
Difficulty in achieving a close shave
My Panasonic electric shaver which is several years old just broke. It turns on and makes a shaving noise but doesn't actually shave.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Preference for Panasonic over other brands
Yes. Always buy Panasonic electronics.
Discussion on preference for different styles of electric razors
I want electric for the speed and convenience of using it.
Panasonic is cheaper up front, blades and the foil are separate from each other and you will replace them separately, these pieces are more expensive than the Braun replacements, these will cut slightly better than all other leading products.
Discussion on electric shaver effectiveness
Men with particularly thick whiskers are never going to find an electric razor which works for them.
For $10.50 you were getting an excellent deal already, for $.50 you’ve won the lottery.
Discussion on various electric shaver brands
Panasonic shave closest BUT it's loud (I hate that infernal screech in the mornings) and can irritate the neck.
But longer than that, I prefer a wet shave, usually my Parker adjustable safety razor or my Feather kamisori.
Comparative experiences with electric razors
My primary now is a Wahl model 7961 "LifeProof" oscillating foil screen razor with higher capacity lithium battery.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on technique for shaving with electric razors
But, hey, it's there when you need it.
As for electric razors - yes, they generally don't cause razor bumps.
Preference for double edged safety razors
It’s a total game changer.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion on advantages of electric shavers over regular razors
Whats the advantage of electric shavers? Is it true you don't need shaving cream to use them without getting hurt?
the arc 5 is the closest shave I can get on some parts of my face
I wash my face with soap, wash it off, dry my face and then use my electric shaver.
when you use an electric razor no blade is touching your face.
Preference for electric shavers for sensitive skin
I have very sensitive and dry skin and even a very careful wet shave with a DE razor and top-notch shaving soap leaves me red and pock-marked.
Insights on shaving techniques and products
I could never find an electric razor that didn’t stick to my skin, then I found some stuff at the grocery store called Lectric Shave.
it's really a shave experience without any irritation, but it's not the quick and brainless experience of a normal electric razor.
Preference for electric razors over manual ones
I haven’t dropped mine yet but I’ve heard they are kinda fragile.
It's an electric razor basically, has a rechargeable battery.
Comparison of various Arc 5 models and prices
I liked my Series 7, but I've found that in the later years it tends to 'tug' the hairs out quite a bit more.
Discussion on alternatives to electric shavers
My ultimate weight savings is no shaver. Full man beard!
Thoughts on packing light for travel
Best electric shaver for a clean shave for Onebagging? Anything better than Oneblade?
Experience with different grooming methods and products.
I decided to go for it and I'm so glad I did!
do I need to use shaving cream when using one?
Discussion on longevity and alternatives to Panasonic
Norelco will last you about 10-12yrs.
I moved from Norelco to a Braun Series 3 and it's been amazing.
I like the Braun M90 a lot.
Advice on maintenance and repair
Take it apart, clean it and lubricate it. It will probably work just fine again.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on differences between foil and rotary shavers
the quality of the shave will degrade less with a rotary than a foil.
Discussion on foil vs rotary shavers
I think Panasonic's Arc series are all overpriced for what they offer.
These days I use a Panasonic for a first pass and finish up with a wet shave.
Concerns about electric shaver battery performance
Whatever you take, do not buy one that cannot be used when plugged.
Concerns about manufacturing locations of Panasonic shavers
Better do some research online to find out which ones are being made in Germany as I've already forgotten.
Discussion on longevity of foil heads
I only get 3 months out of the Braun S9 and wondering if I should be switching.
User experiences with upgrades from older models
Did you see a difference in a clean shave since upgrading to the arc 5?
Discussion on the lack of electric trimmers for women compared to men's options.
I just want a good electric trimmer, preferably with a LED light that I can use comfortably.
Yeah it’s kinda bs isn’t it? Ball trimmers galore and none for the women, what the heck is that about?
Preference for men's groomers over women's options.
In my experience, men’s groomers are just so much better than women’s.
It works great! It's not bulky so it's easy to navigate around labia majora and the groin area.
