Powell boards seem to have a bit more flex. I honestly prefer boards with a little more flex, they skate better to me.

Positive Feedback

personally I'd go Girl/chocolate over Powell as I like the brand more but I am partial to a Cab Dragon shape if they werent over priced 😂

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Great flexibility for skating
Powell boards seem to have a bit more flex. I honestly prefer boards with a little more flex, they skate better to me.
Quality products from an OG brand
Powells an OG brand who could maybe be considered ‘dad skateboards’ because they do so many reissues but they’re also quality products with wide range of boards from starter to pro so the board probably decent quality after a few sessions it’s probably getting scratched up anyway so nobody will probably even know what it is
Never heard anything but good about them, TBH. I skate a classic reissue and LOVE IT!
People were already hating on Powel in 1990 when I was 10 years old. Guess what they're still here making great gear, awesome videos with a great team of solid and original skaters while I'll bet 99% of the guys hating on them in 1990 haven't skated in 30+ years
High-quality skateboards for beginners
The mellow middle enables you to catch your board with the whole bottom of your foot instead of just your toes and heels, helping to eliminate the flapping that can occur with feet-off-the-board tricks.
I have the non flight version of the 246 shape and really liked it.
Smooth performance on asphalt
The Dragons feel so smooth on the asphalt and I no longer get stuck on little pebbles in the street.
Good grip for beginners on various surfaces
I liked that they were slidey on pave but got more grippy on park surfaces.
Versatile wheels for cruising and tricks
It seems like the Powell Peralta wheels are pretty versatile in this regard and can cruise comfortably while not sacrificing anything in the trick department.
Both are great for cruising and tricks.
Good balance with 54mm wheels
I think I'm pretty settled on the 54mm now. Really appreciate the thorough advice!
Not much. My friend uses them regularly and can do all sorts of shit. Hardness makes a bigger difference.
Strong and durable decks
They are strong af from my experience.
the pop is strong and stays for a long time, i find the concave quite flat compared to other decks but I happen to like that.
Good concave options
Awesome concave assortments too
Good concave and shape for carving
I have this deck in silver. It’s actually a good concave and shape, like an average carver, but old school cruiser shape.
Reminds users of old school decks and surfing culture
I am also intrigued been looking at these and the Santa Cruz reissues. I like the old school decks r
Good entry-level skateboard for beginners
Decks are normally made from maple not birch. Powell pro boards are maple.
They’re one of the best you can get at a reasonable price.
Great price for quality skateboards
In all honesty the best boards for the right price to me was ATM. Sick designs and ride great.
Great performance on rough ground
Slides like 99a, but feels amazing on rough ground.
They slide like my Spitfire Classic 99 but when I push off I actually roll as opposed to stopping after one foot of sidewalk.
High-quality urethane formula
Powell Peralta kills it in the urethane game.
Affordable entry-level skateboard
I definitely want to save money if the board isnt that bad
Good variety of designs and graphics
Powell is the powerhouse grand daddy of skating...can't go wrong with one of their decks and can find quite a bit more variety than typical popsicle sticks these days.
Good durability and construction
This results in a lighter but stronger deck.
In my experience, flight decks have a bit more pop to them and their weight makes some tricks come out with less effort.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Perceived as overpriced by some
personally I'd go Girl/chocolate over Powell as I like the brand more but I am partial to a Cab Dragon shape if they werent over priced 😂
Perceived use of cheap materials and labor
Powell also does some production in the US which I assume is where Andy Anderson's and other more expensive decks are produced.
Skateboards can be heavier than competitors
Warning they are NOT lighter,in fact the 8.0 I have is HEAVIER than the 8.25 Hockey deck I have brand new wrapped.
Not symmetrical as some might expect
Not symmetrical the nose is longer 6 3/4 and the tail is 6.5
Preference for other wheel types over Dragons
I got tired of them after about a month. Tried the x97’s and didn’t really like those either.
Potential for wheel bite with larger wheels
The weight difference is not going to be that noticable. The larger wheels change how the board will pop and increases your chances for wheel bite.
Razor tail can occur quicker than expected
Great decks, but honestly I do not really feel that they pop significantly better than 7ply maple or that they get less razor tail.
Deck can be heavier compared to other brands
You can see the concave here:
It's definitely one of the heavier decks I have for the size.
Not suitable for indoor parks
Powell 7 plus are good. They aren't good at indoor parks but great in the streets
Lack of feedback on smooth surfaces
I like the quiet and the grip and the 'soft' feel and also the speed.
Concerns about quality due to cheaper manufacturing
Powell decks are cheaper because they are made in China with Chinese woods, but I’m sure the Powell deck is fine.
Perceived as overpriced compared to competitors
Why are Powell-Peralta decks so much more expensive than virtually all other companies?
The flight deck is built differently, I believe.
Mixed opinions on value for new skaters
I can't say whether it's actually worth it for a new skater, as someone who's just properly starting out the only reason I got it was because the Decenzo bear design was absolutely dope.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on skate deck preferences and types
Powell makes twin tails as well! I have one and love it.
Pick the one that has the team you like. IMO it’s wood from two huge brands.
Discussion on wheel types and preferences
They work on every surface and feel better as they break in.
You’d like the Bones X-97. I heard it’s the same type of formula as dragons, but harder at 97a.
Discussion on wheel size impact on tricks
How much harder would it be to learn tricks on the 56mm compared to the 54mm?
Discussion on preferences for deck strength
the idea of getting a super strong deck which is why I looked into the Flight decks.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on Powell's video content strategy
I feel like there are tons of sick tricks in those videos that will just get sort of forgotten because its diluted in a way.
It might be that George oversees everything and is a bit old school, and possibly cheap IMO.
Deville is the magic maker. Watch Powell “Fun”.
Andy Anderson (&&) has put out some full length parts.

Discussion about comparing dragon formula wheels with other brands
do you any more thoughts on them compared to 92a Ricta Clouds? I’m thinking of getting dragons but are they far enough in performance to warrant getting a set when i already have rictas?
Comparison of Powell boards with other brands
Anything at a skateshop is generally the same thing minus special tech in a certain line like Powell’s flight decks which I have and was like $100 for the deck alone

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on skateboarding culture and brand reputation
I have some dragon wheels, I really like them.
Once they grow to a certain size they think their historic reputation and image can make their sales while putting out the cheapest, lowest quality products possible.
Most skateboard companies moved to China and Mexico like half a decade ago.
Some are original, some are reissues.
Discussion on the rarity and value of vintage Tony Hawk boards
Been skating for 25+ years and just started collecting boards.
This is THE Tony Hawk graphic.
My dad has one from my childhood I was born in the 80s said he bought it in 81 and he is looking into selling it.
His second board had the pictured graphic but was a regular shape.
Discussion on preferences for different board types and brands
great choice!
Desire for larger wheel sizes
Sweet. I want them in a slightly bigger wheel and I’m sold.
