Snoop's Take

The Rubbermaid Brilliance Food Storage Containers, Set of 5 (10 Pieces Total), Clear is a versatile food storage solution engineered to keep your edibles fresh and organized. Crafted from BPA-free Tritan, these containers are designed to perform in the microwave, freezer, and dishwasher with a 360-degree clear view of your food. Consumer sentiment is as layered as the stackable design of these containers. Many users rave about its durability, noting, 'i've dropped one from 3 feet high and it didn't even break so pretty tough,' and applauding its leak‐proof, stain-resistant performance. However, some reviews grumble about issues like dishwasher-induced mold and a plastic taste from microwaving, while others lament the difficulty of sourcing replacement lids. The debates encapsulate a product that is robust in design yet occasionally marred by practical downsides. In summary, despite some recurring concerns regarding cleaning and long-term durability, the Rubbermaid Brilliance line holds its ground as a top contender in food storage solutions, earning a recommendation for those serious about organized meal prep and pantry efficiency.

I found that the dishwasher pushes water up there and I had to take the seal out to dry or it would mold.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Impact resistant design
i've dropped one from 3 feet high and it didn't even break so pretty tough.
Efficient stacking and storage
Stacks and stores well. It stores so nicely in the refrigerator as compared to round containers.
Stain‐resistant and leak‐proof performance
No staining or leaking so far.
Microwave safe Tritan material
any Tritan based storage container is safe. That's what Rubbermaid uses.
Overall quality and reliable sealing
if you’re looking to invest in some reusables that actually work these are the way and the truth.
I really wish yeti added ventilation holes under the latches like the brilliance for letting out steam with the lid on in the microwave or cooling off warm foods.
We use this in a laboratory and they hold chemicals 24/7. Still seal.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Dishwasher use may promote mold on lids
I found that the dishwasher pushes water up there and I had to take the seal out to dry or it would mold.
I wash them by hand and have to really scrub in between, which isn't the most effective in taking the mold out.
Microwave use can cause melting and plastic taste/odor
Maybe it's just me, but I can taste the plastic in my food when Ive done it before.
I microwaved mine yesterday for 60 seconds and it melted in the corners.
I’ve always smelled plastic after it’s microwaved.
I still love mine though.
Prone to spiderweb cracks and breakage
I'm slowly switching to the glass ones.
These have been fine in this season of life and are certainly better than any plastic alternative I've used.
I think these are a little more prone to crack when dropped or smacked on stuff.
Replacement lids not readily available
You can get a carburetor for 1968 Ford Mustang more easily than a darn lid from Rubbermaid.
Durability issues and cracking components
I’ve had issues with a couple Rubbermaid Brilliance lids cracking.
Seem very well built but only lasted a couple years.
Dishwasher causes white residue requiring extra cleaning
When I put them in the dish washer, I'm left with this white stuff (?) that's kinda hard to get off without scrubbing really hard.
I use the Rubbermaid Brilliance containers for the entree-sized stuff. They seem to clean much better than normal food storage and have never stained.

Discussion of alternative container options
Pretty much all of us used the regular glass Pyrex before this, then one day we all realized without coordinating that the all preppers had switched unanimously lol.
I like these the best because they are oven safe.
the one downside is that they’re plastic so it’s still pretty sketchy to microwave them.
Depending on how you plan to use them, one of those might fit your needs.
Comparisons with alternative brands and container options
IKEA has food storage I’ve been using for 4 years- so much cheaper and available on glass or plastic.
I suspect these will be plastic for impact durability, but glass would be better in terms of odor retention and longevity.
Would love it to be glass.
Food rotation and storage tips for long‐term food management
If you're eating the food.. ie rotating the stock, no need for Mylar.
If you are rotating through this food you should be fine in the Rubbermaid assuming you don’t have a serious rodent problem.
if you cycle this supply on a 3-month basis, you’ll be fine.
