With its ergonomic design, this shoulder mount rig features soft cushioning on both the shoulder and back pads, ensuring a snug fit that reduces strain, making it ideal for long hours of shooting. Consumer feedback highlights its effectiveness, with users praising its stability and comfort. One reviewer noted, "I was able to get stable shots and it made a long day of shooting a little easier," while another mentioned, "most of the weight is on your shoulder." However, some users have raised concerns about the front rod clamp being too short and the overall weight of the rig. What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Provides stability for shooting
Super versatile setup for run n gun shootin.
I was able to get stable shots and it made a long day of shooting a little easier.
will get the job done 90% of the time.
Enhances comfort during extended use
Wrist straps are much better for me and ensure I don't drop the camera (not that I ever have).
Can hold a gripped r5 with ef 70-200 2.8 all day comfortably.
Effective for extended shooting sessions
I wanted to know if any of you have used those kind of shoulder pad, what did you think of those and do you have specific model recommandations?
Provides stability during handheld shooting
Best one hands down is this one: Has thick memory foam padding and multiple velcro points so you can attach it to the bottom of whatever camera rig you have.
Inexpensive and effective alternative to other brands
It’s inexpensive but better than all the wooden camera, zacuto, mantis, etc that I’ve used over the years.
Efficient for quick assembly and disassembly
Thanks man and sure.
Allows for comfortable shooting
most of the weight is on your shoulder.
Provides stability during shooting
would be most stable IMO
I made a rig that can switch between handheld, shoulder, tripod, and gimbal within seconds.
Allows for quick switching between setups
Works exceptionally well.
Easier for long shoots and more controllable
Overall, we prefer shoulder. It's just easier for long shoots and more controllable.
Reduces strain on shoulder and spine
Comfy shoulder mount setup? Got an FX6, but this should be mostly camera agnostic.
A good shoulder mount setup should reduce or completely remove all strain on your shoulder, spine and hips.
Comfortable for long-term use
I love the Smallrig VCT setup. The smallrig vct plate is softer.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Front rod clamp is too short
For the smallrig one, it was the front rod clamp, is way too short, and it's missing a back shoulder pad.
Pos stands for piece of shit.
Padding may not feel connected to the body
it felt too disconnected to my body and we changed to piece of gel type pad that was attached to the camera and it was alright.
Can feel top heavy and unstable with added gear
it starts to feel really top heavy, kinda unstable even with an evf.
Recommendation for additional cable management
I would only suggest adding some cable clamps to the rig...especially when dealing with longer cables.
Heavy and cumbersome
It's very heavy and you can't see the whole image in it, gotta really push your eye into it and looks sideways.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Building a custom rig might be more effective
you can probably get a much nicer shoulder rig by buying 200$ worth of parts vs a 200$ dollar complete product.
I’m guessing that once I buy it all and add it to my rig I’ll be a bit disappointed that I can’t really hold my camera and manually focus like I used to.
You can buy shorter rods and have them come out the back of the base plate to only support the batte
I chopped some, sanded the ends and then wrapped the cut end in some gaff tape when I was in a pinch once.
DIY solutions for shoulder pads
Voila! Shoulder pad for your camera.
Honestly brilliant.
Custom shoulder rig solutions can enhance ergonomics
I built one using a second hand neewer special, then changed out some parts from smallrig to have an offset for the shoulder so the camera sensor is closer to my face.
Variety of shooting styles and preferences
You wear it across your body like a messenger bag. 10/10
This strap helps me keep reluctant subjects at ease when we first meet on set.
Finally finished my A6600-based rig.
Weeks of planning, trying this and that, tons of purchases and returns.
Discussion on custom rig solutions
The FightPad market is in dire straits.
Discussion on various camera strap preferences
Neck strap? Hand strap? What do you prefer, and what camera is attached to it?
Even their basic neck strap is ages ahead of Canon's own.
I didn’t like it. Went Black Rapid and love it.
Unique designs and way more comfortable than any other strap I’ve used.
Custom solutions for camera straps
I like the quick disconnect idea but not the plastic connector that PD states to check daily/weeky.
I also use the capture clip when I hike or am out and about with both my camera and bag.
Discussion on optimal rig setups
Tips on mounting external monitor to shoulder mount?
I ended up getting a magic arm and a clamp for the front rod holding the handles.
If anything I would flip that shoulder pad upright and shove it up against my chest.
Discussion on building custom rigs for flexibility
This is great! I’ve been trying to figure out a rig like this for my FX3.
If I ever shoot a camera this small again, it might be a fun build.
Discussion on building custom rigs
Personally, I'd build your own using smallrig and fotga parts.
is it that it really is flimsy or is it that we treat it rougher than we would an expensive rig due to the cheap price?

Did it fix the shaky issue?
Maybe the easyrig would also be good alternative for you.
How stable is the footage with this set up compared to using a glidecam or gimbal?
