Snoop's Take

The JJZS Snake Gaiters are designed for outdoor enthusiasts seeking protection from snake bites and harsh weather conditions. Constructed from durable 600D Oxford cloth, they are waterproof, breathable, and offer adjustable fit for maximum comfort during hiking, hunting, and other outdoor activities. Consumer feedback highlights the durability and effectiveness of these gaiters, with one user noting, "I’ve had a pair of crocodiles for about 12 or so years and they have held up great." Many users appreciate the warmth they provide without the bulk of extra layers, and they excel at keeping boots and pants cuffs dry. However, some feedback indicates that they are not fully waterproof and may not provide sufficient warmth for cold conditions. Overall, the JJZS Snake Gaiters are highly recommended for those looking for reliable protection in rugged outdoor environments. Their durability and versatility make them a smart choice for a variety of activities, despite some limitations in warmth and waterproofing.

One of my favourite things about gaiters is the extra warmth they can't provide without having to wear multiple layers of pants.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Durable material and construction
One of my favourite things about gaiters is the extra warmth they can't provide without having to wear multiple layers of pants.
I’ve had a pair of crocodiles for about 12 or so years and they have held up great.
The crocodiles are the OGs for a reason. I love mine.
These are the ones I have. Been on about 20+ trips with them, still holding up fine.
Provides warmth without extra layers
They are a godsend in the ridiculous powder I've seen this season.
Keeps weather elements out
The gaiters won’t do much for adding warmth but they will keep stufffrom getting at the feet which is always good.
They are great for keeping weather elements out, but not so much for added warmth.
my Outdoor Research gortex gaiters are one of my most important gear items year round.
Keeps boots and pants cuffs dry
Gaiters keep your boots and pants cuffs dryer and cleaner, and your lower legs warmer, but they are not waterproof.
Gaiters will only keep snow out of your boots, or in a rare case water if it is a very very quick dip.
They save my feet in that they keep them dry, and they keep the flies out.
Adjustable fit for comfort
Any love for gaiters? I love gaiters but haven't had a pair for years.
Keeps pants dry in wet conditions
Keeps the bottom of my pants dry.
Also helps on damp west coast mornings when everything is completely soaked.
Useful for various outdoor activities
100 percent us Snow mexicans need gaiters when it’s snowy and they help for all the thistle and other spiny shit here in Alberta
*”100 percent us Snow mexicans need gaiters when it’s snowy and they help for all the thistle and other spiny shit here in Alberta”*
Durable material suitable for tough conditions
I've used them in a bunch of spinifex country across WA as well as in the thick scrub of the south coast and they've held up well.
I seem to go through a pair every 1.5 to 2 years.
You can have minimalist or you can have protection from snake bites and scrub.
Good protection against snake bites and rough underbrush
Dealing with scrub, prickles and snake protection... I chose canvas..

Where it needs some work!

Limited warmth for feet
Gaiters don't give coverage in either area.
Not fully waterproof
If you go in over the lip of your boots, your feet will get wet, gaiters or no gaiters.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Gaiters are used in various outdoor activities
Would waterproof gaiters prevent this? I'm not expecting them to keep my feet totally dry, but if I were to step in a river that was deeper than the height of my boots, how wet would they get?
Gaiters are commonly used in hunting and outdoor activities
Do people still use gaiters while hunting?
Absolutely. Never worry about shit going down your boots again.
Once you use them, it’s hard not to keep a pair around

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Variety of gaiters for different seasons
I wear gaiters to keep the snow out of my boots.
Different regions have varying needs for gaiters
Wouldn't go in -40C voluntarily, -30C is very manageable if you keep moving.
Discussion on gaiters for varying conditions
Not talking about the usual UL suspects (eg dirty girl gaiters), but something more suitable for heavy scrub and snake bite protection.
On the PCT people bought 4-5 pairs of ~$20 Dirty girls and my cheap as shit sock guards lasted the journey.
Discussion on gaiters for different types of outdoor activities
So I’m confused…if the regulars come in wide, then are there additional differences to the Expedition Crocodiles.
By the time you're dropping that kind of cash, you won't give AF about spending another $50 on bigger gaiters 🤷
Gaiters have two objectives. The first is to keep your feet clean and dry.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on snake encounters and safety
Snake gaiters or snake boots or both? Hi, would like to know what do you think about them.
I’ve lived in Arizona my whole life and have literally hiked thousands of miles here, I’ve seen 4 rattlesnakes in 20 years of hiking...2 on the same day...and all of them gave me plenty of warning they were around...so unless you’re going to be walking through tall grass on an undefined trail, I would say you’re probably going to be fine with out gaiters.
Besides everything else that can go wrong out in the desert, I want to at least feel protected from a snake bite.
No need for gaiters.
