The Survivor Filter PRO is a hand pump water filtration system designed for camping and survival situations. This compact and lightweight water purifier effectively removes viruses, bacteria, and heavy metals, ensuring safe drinking water from various sources. Consumer sentiment highlights the product's impressive virus removal capabilities, with users noting, "I'm actually more impressed by its ability to get rid of 99.9% of all viruses." Many also appreciate its easy-to-use design and lab-tested reliability, with comments like, "It's been lab-tested so no reason not to trust it - with some caveats." However, some users find the pumping process inconvenient and express concerns about the filter's lifespan and heavy metal removal effectiveness. What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Effective virus removal
I'm actually more impressed by it's ability to get rid of 99.9% of all viruses.
Claims to remove lead effectively
I'm mostly interested in it due to its alleged lead-removing powers, and the volume of water allegedly filtered by each carbon filter.
Easy to use
I found it easy to use and it doesn't break the bank.
Lab-tested and reliable
It's been lab-tested so no reason not to trust it - with some caveats.
Compact and portable design
Why isn't everyone buying this water filter? Can someone explain why I don't see more love for this 0.01 micron filter?
I like feeling that I actively filtered the water (as long as its not too hard). One of the reasons I like this pump filter system.
Effective virus filtration
So you'd rather have 10,000 gallons of water potentially contaminated with viruses? You can purchase replacement filters.
Fast filtration speed
Sure this is smaller, lighter, and has better filtration, but no one I've ever talked to or myself has gotten sick using the sweetwater.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Pumping water is inconvenient
I hate pumping water so I don’t think anyone will ever convince me to not use a gravity filter.
May not effectively remove certain heavy metals
It might not be as good at getting rid of heavy metals like arsenic and nickel.
Less versatile than other filters
I've used similar straw type filters and I've used the sawyer squeeze (both mini and full size), the Sawyers just outperform in every way and provide additional advantages.
Limited lifespan of filters
Well for one it only filters about 125 gallons of water, where the Sawyer is about 10,000 gallons.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about lead removal capabilities
I'm mostly interested in it due to its alleged lead-removing powers, and the volume of water allegedly filtered by each carbon filter.
Activated carbon should reduce lead, but probably not all of it.
Discussion about pump water filters
Review of the Katadyn Hiker Pro - the classic pump water filter.
There are a lot of people that are anti-pump, and for good reason, but we've found it's still one of the most common types of filters out there.
I've been using the same Hiker since shortly after I started backpacking almost 15 years ago (with a couple of cartridge replacements).
It was my first filter and did its job.

Discussion about the need for reliable water purification methods.
I was hoping there’s a relatively inexpensive option that wouldn’t require me buying filter refills that I may not be able to get in the event of… idk whatever the fuck’s about to happen.
Get a still, the water that comes out will be clean.
My opinion is that slow sand filters are something worth looking at.
This is one part of prepping where you don't want to cheap out.
Discussion about the need for reliable water purification methods
The HydroBlu Versa is a new top choice for most people's first buy: it's very comparable to the Mini but has a better flow rate.
Variety is key. I personally have a sawyer mini and a katadyn hiker pro whenever I am out in the sticks.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about various water filtration systems.
Best water system Looking to get water purification system for survival.
A lot of folks are going to recommend various filters. Which is fine, so long as you realize the lim
Sawyer squeeze, bleach or aqua Mira drops have always been my go to.
If you are on the move, one of the many backpacking water filters from Sawyer, Katadyn, or MSR are great.
Discussion about effectiveness of different water purifiers
I have never had an issue filtering the river water for drinking.
Water purifiers will remove bacteria and viruses, water filters just remove bacteria.
The Grayl is your best bet as it will even remove viruses but I don’t know what else would be in that water.
Concerns about water quality in hot springs
Is the issue with the spring water arsenic?

Concerns about testing water after filtration
I dont know if i can test the water after filtration, but some girls (from a water and geogology science institute) measured the amount and it was something like x10 limit standard of nickel and x3 cadmium and arsenic.
General discussion on water purification methods
I have stocked up a lot at home on water.
However, lifestraw or boiling is always the better choice.
Filtering is a good way to remove these.
Clear running water in a stream far from chemical contamination can be boiled or filtered through a a commercial kit like sawyer or life straw as your only concern is biological.
Discussion about the effectiveness of various water purifiers
I just pour the water in and let gravity do the work.
Experiences in different environments
Well, you were in the everglades. Often I'm on a mountain, and there's only water every once in a while.
Concerns about brand trustworthiness
There's a lot of trusted and time tested brands selling water filters to these specs already.
