Snoop's Take

The TETON 65L Explorer Internal Frame Backpack is designed for outdoor enthusiasts seeking a reliable and comfortable backpack for hiking, camping, and backpacking adventures. With a spacious 65L capacity and thoughtful design, this backpack is suitable for both beginners and experienced adventurers alike. Consumer sentiment highlights the TETON backpack's durability and comfort, particularly for side and stomach sleepers, with one user stating, "it's crazy comfortable!" Additionally, many users appreciate its value for the price, saying, "For the price, they're a damn good value." However, some feedback points out that the backpack can be heavy for longer trips, and not all users find the quality comparable to higher-end brands. Overall, the TETON 65L Explorer is recommended for those seeking a budget-friendly, comfortable backpack for weekend camping trips or short hikes, though it may not be the best choice for extended thru hikes or those needing a lighter pack.

They are durable, but heavy.

Comfortable for long hikes
I want to utilize the most out of my space in my backpack.
Good for beginners
I vouch for Teton's customer service & guarantee.
Good value for price
For the price, they're a damn good value.
Adjustable to fit growing teens
the vast majority should easily adjust to fit both his current height and his full adult height.
Good for weekend camping trips
Conventional wisdom says to buy your backpack after you know the volume of what you're going to put in it.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Heavy for longer trips
It's a fair beginner pack that will last for a decent amount of time.
For the price you're not really going to beat it unless you can pick up an Osprey or Deuter bag cheap second hand.
Too large for typical summer camp needs
An 85 liter is HUGE, literally double the size of the bag I carry as a 220lb, 6'1" adult.
Not durable enough for thru hikes
I wouldn’t trust it on the rigors of a thru. It just doesn’t seem built well enough to trust for that extended period of time.
Quality not comparable to other brands
It wasn't very good quality compared to others.

Its a blatant rip off of Teton's design. And its made poorly than the original.

for the bucks it’s been hard to beat.
Insights on backpacking essentials
Backpackingchef.com
Discussion about buying backpacks for growing children
I would like to get something that will last him a few years that he can take to college.
So, uh, don't buy a new backpack to fit an early-teens boy.
Discussion about the suitability of backpacks for young scouts
I want him to have what he needs and not put extra stress on his body.
You shouldn't spend much on a pack at that age for scouts.
If it's just car camping with a short walk, then there's no need to spend a lot now.
No need to go nuts and drop a couple hundred dollars on something you can get for $30 that is just as good.
Comparative mention of other brands and options
Neither tent we have is ultralight and it would just be a lot for him to manage in a backpack.
Discussion on brand reputation and value perception
The price point seems too good to be true.
Discussion on backpack sizing for children
Absolutely don't get anything that big, because he'll fill it with needless stuff and be carrying half his weight in gear.
Discussion about budget packs
Can I get away with an Amazon purchase for my pack, or would my time and money be better spent looking for something used on FB?
Suggestions for sourcing gear from friends
You'd be surprised at how many people have high-end gear in the garage from that weekend trip three years ago.
Insights on used gear recommendations
REI recycle store and gearjunkie are good sources for quality used.
Discussion about the complexities of choosing sleeping bags
let me tell you, never been more confused.
temperature rating isn't the only specification that matters when buying sleeping bags.
If you are car camping you don't need to spend much money because weight and packability doesn't matter.
Advice on choosing the right size backpack
I’d go on the smaller, it’ll force you to hone your gear in a bit.
Discussion about proper weight for scout backpacks
Good luck, enjoy the experience and pass your old gear on when it’s too small.
Consideration of packing essentials for hiking
What I liked about those two packs is the strap system adjusts up and down kind of like a car seat so it fits properly as he grows.
Mention of alternative brands for youth backpacks
Osprey has the Ace line of backpacks for kids.
Consideration of experienced hikers' preferences
really serious hikers probably don't go cheap on their bag so...

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about the necessity of specialized bags for sports
Nobody cares what kind of bag you have and if they do they suck!
Spending a stupid amount of money on a Gucci sports bag is wild imo.
Never thought I’d see this group almost universally agree that spending money is worthwhile.
It's pretty non-negotiable for backpacking.
Discussion about Teton sleeping bags
Experience with Teton Sports sleeping bags? Hey y'all, I'm in the market for a new sleeping bag.
I love that sleeping bag but it is bigger than most others I saw on the trail.
Are you able to compress it down pretty small still?
For me, its not an issue as it did fit and it's not super heavy, plus I value a good nights sleep which that bag gave me.
Discussion on packing challenges with budget gear
It seems like a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat will take up almost an entire backpack.
That sleeping pad is not designed for backpacking.
When I pack my pack, my bag and pad take up typically no more than a quarter of the inside of the pack at most.
If you need a thick pad to sleep then use your thick pad.
Discussion on user review reliability
This is basically like celebrating that your brand new honda civic survived 500 miles without issue.
Most reviews on low end packs are likely not from experience backpackers.
