Snoop's Take

The ACDelco Silver 18A1485A Front Disc Brake Rotor is designed to provide reliable braking performance for General Motors vehicles and many other makes and models. Manufactured with multiple alloys for enhanced heat dissipation, these rotors are built to resist corrosion and premature wear, ensuring long-lasting durability. Consumer feedback highlights some concerns regarding the performance of drilled rotors, with many users noting that they are prone to cracking under high-stress conditions. One user mentioned, "All you will get with drilled rotors is premature cracking rotors," indicating a significant issue for those who engage in track work. Additionally, there is a consensus that using pads and rotors together is essential for optimal brake performance, with some users advocating for genuine parts due to their superior durability. Given the mixed feedback, particularly regarding the risk of cracking and the need for proper pairing with pads, potential buyers may want to consider their specific driving conditions before purchasing. For general use, these rotors may be suitable, but caution is advised for high-performance applications.

Genuine parts are more durable and last longer
It's always been my experience that the Genuine parts are more durable and last longer.
I find them all about the same, I'm in a salt/rust area, and the coated ones are the only way here.
Drilled rotors are prone to cracking under track conditions
People dog on them but power stop rotors have been great for me.
Slotted and drilled rotors wear out faster and perform worse
I went with slotted and went back to smooth and feel they work better.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Modern rotors are thinner and close to discard thickness.
the rotors on a modern car are thinner and lighter than they were decades ago, and are very close to the 'discard thickness' when they are brand new.
Discussion on rust-free rotor options
Need new rotors and pads for 2014 Chevy Volt. Should I go OEM? Is rockauto alright? Just trying to f
Dealers and others seem to assume you want the ones that rust or they just don't know how to get the FNC rotors, lol.
Use OEM FNC treated rotors, or complain about rusted rotors.
I’ll just drop it in neutral and pull on the emergency brake once in a while to clean off the rust.
Mixing brands of pads and rotors is acceptable.
Mixing different brands of brake rotors / pads I already have a set of AC/Delco brake pads for my 20
The rotors don't have feelings, they don't care what brand pads you use.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion includes various rotor and pad combinations for track use.
what are your pads and what is your fluid?

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Cost-effectiveness of resurfacing rotors is questioned.
They are just so inexpensive, especially compared to the labor cost of swapping them out.
Discussion on OEM warranty and pricing
it makes no sense to pay the OEM unless you buy it directly from GM parts or dealer so you also get the warranty.
User considering multiple rotor and pad options
OEM are reasonable so maybe I’ll go OEM all around.
I’m leaning towards the ACdelco performance; gold/professional rotors with the s slotted groves as well.
Discussion on the differences between OE and aftermarket rotors
If it is your own car and no one else drives it then you can get away with offshore on the off chance that you fully understand break in procedures for mating the friction surfaces.
Concerns about rotor warranties
I would avoid ACDelco.
Considerations for rotor choice depend on driving conditions.
Mixing brands is fine, but ditch anything drilled or slotted.
Concerns about shipping costs for heavy parts like rotors
You can get quality parts but since rotors are so heavy you are looking at some serious shipping charges.
Preference for local purchases due to convenience and part accuracy
For wear parts like brakes I shop locally though.
It's worth the extra $ to be able to be able to swap at the counter when they wear out.
taking your vin into a local parts store should yield the right part.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Recommendations lean towards solid rotors for better durability.
I've been extremely impressed with them on my Evo.
Excellent weight saving and stopping power.
Discussion about brake squealing issues
I discovered that gently squeezing the rotor with a rag and dragging it along produces the same squealing noise.
Finally gave up and bought a new bike.
You sure your calipers aren't leaking?
I had the same problem where they squeaked for 'no reason', but swapped over a new caliper, new pads and cleaned the rotors and the sound went away immediately.
Link sharing about GM's rust-free rotors development
GM develops rust-free rotors to keep car wheels shiny.
Discussion on the quality variance of parts from online retailers
Regardless of where you buy, make sure you're getting quality parts.
