Snoop's Take

The ACDelco Silver 18A912A Front Disc Brake Rotor is designed to provide reliable braking performance for General Motors vehicles and many other makes and models. Manufactured with multiple alloys and mill-balanced for optimal rotor function, these rotors aim to improve heat dissipation and longevity under normal driving conditions. However, consumer sentiment reveals significant concerns regarding their durability under heavy usage. Feedback indicates that "drilled rotors will crack under track conditions prematurely," and many users suggest avoiding drilled options altogether. Additionally, some users express disappointment that the rotors cannot be resurfaced if damaged, emphasizing the importance of selecting the right parts for vehicle maintenance. Given the negative feedback on cracking under high temperatures and the inability to resurface, potential buyers may want to explore alternative options, especially for performance driving. Overall, while the ACDelco Silver rotors offer economical value, they may not be the best choice for those requiring high-performance braking solutions.

Drilled rotors crack under heavy use
If you do any track work or any high temp braking, the drilled rotors will crack.
Do not get drilled rotors, they WILL crack under track conditions prematurely.
Your rotors aren’t the problem… they will be though if you decide to go with slotted and drilled.
Rotors cannot be resurfaced if damaged
Probably cant be resurfaced, and if you put pads on with the rotor like this they wont last very long.
Thin rotors are close to discard thickness
Always plan on replacing the rotors when changing worn out brake pads on a modern car.
Use OEM FNC treated rotors, or complain about rusted rotors.
Genuine parts are more durable
It's always been my experience that the Genuine parts are more durable and last longer.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about rotor dimensions and suppliers
it makes no sense to pay the OEM unless you buy it directly from GM parts or dealer so you also get the warranty.
Discussion on slotted vs smooth rotors
I went with slotted and went back to smooth and feel they work better.
the coated ones are the only way here.
People dog on them but power stop rotors have been great for me.
Napa’s brand has worked well for me on my 07.
Discussion on rust-free rotor options
Dealers and others seem to assume you want the ones that rust or they just don't know how to get the FNC rotors, lol.
this is the one part I would go for the OEM non-rusting version as someone else has indicated.
Warranties as an indicator of rotor quality
The easy way to tell is by looking at the warranty.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Cost effectiveness of resurfacing rotors debated
They are just so inexpensive, especially compared to the labor cost of swapping them out.
Discussion about cleaning methods for rotors
Car rim cleaner for brakes...hmmm as bike mechanic you intrigued me.
I was sceptical but the guy has like 20 years experience so he shows me uncommon solutions almost every day.
I will try the rim cleaner in the future.
Brakes are less used on some models
Brakes are brakes, use what you want to spend.
Discussion on differences between OE and aftermarket rotors
The difference in OE to offshore rotors can by massive.
Mixing brands of brake components is acceptable
Would it be ok to use my AC Delco pads with those rotors or do I have to use the Power Stop brand pads?
Mixing brands is fine, but ditch anything drilled or slotted.
The rotors don't have feelings, they don't care what brand pads you use.
Online parts can be less economical for heavy items like rotors
You can get quality parts but since rotors are so heavy you are looking at some serious shipping charges.
Quality of parts varies significantly across online retailers
Regardless of where you buy, make sure you're getting quality parts.
Preference for local shopping for wear parts like brakes
For wear parts like brakes I shop locally though.
It's worth the extra $ to be able to be able to swap at the counter when they wear out.
taking your vin into a local parts store should yield the right part.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Debate on causes of brake squealing
You sure your calipers aren't leaking?
New bike, rear brake squealed like somebody was trying to murder it.
Notice how your rotor has a near mirror finish on it? That's what's causing the squeal.
