Snoop's Take

The Cuisinart CPT-160 Metal Classic 2-Slice Toaster is designed for efficient toasting of bagels and bread with a compact and stylish brushed stainless finish. Users have praised its durability, with many noting that toasters like this can last for decades, as one review states, "I had one for 25 years." However, some feedback indicates mixed feelings about toasting performance, with comments like "I can't stand a cheap toaster that doesn't time right or toast evenly," highlighting the inconsistency in its cooking abilities. Overall, while the Cuisinart CPT-160 offers great value and a sleek design, its toasting performance may not meet everyone's expectations. If you prioritize durability and style and are willing to overlook some performance issues, this toaster could still be a worthy addition to your kitchen.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Long-lasting durability
I had one for 25 years.
Most people just buy one toaster and will use it for years unless if it breaks.
High quality and durability
I want a simple, 2-slice toaster that I won't have to replace every few years
I have had a Dualit toaster for 20 years. The manufacturer repairs them if they break.
They do a 2-slice version, and a three slice version, except the pretentious wankers call if a 2+1 and give you one sandwich cage - I know I got one - 22 years old and still going
I love it. Since then noticing them in the places like hotel’s restaurants etc.
Good value for the price
Thanks, reasonable price as well at 39.99
Compact size fits well on countertops
Based on this sub I got the cuisinart compact 2 slice toaster and have been happy with it
Great for bagels
It doesn’t seem to toast quite as well as the cuisinart toaster I had.
My Cuisinart is great at everything.....but making toast.

Inconsistent toasting performance
Any suggestions?
I like that I can lift the lever to check the progress without ending the cycle.
I can't stand a cheep toaster that doesn't time right or toast evenly, but I don't think I've ever broken one
Reliability problems with the main dial
Great price, but they have some reliability problems.
Bagel mode direction inconsistency
the
My toaster has the bagel mode toward the outside. It's infuriating
YSK: this is not standardized. Some toasters use the bagel button to just get hotter. Source: the Wi
Inconsistent cooking performance
It always ran hot and cooked things too quickly.
Uneven toasting performance
Not only did it toast both sides unevenly, it didn't even toast the same side evenly.
100 fucking percent - the reason I'm here at the subreddit is because I'm done with that POS and I'm looking for something good.
Quality issues reported
I miss good toast.
Low wattage affects toasting speed
only 900w though. Can't be that fast.
Not effective for toasting
It is not a very good toaster.
Air fryer and toaster functions underperform
It's a great oven, but the air fryer and toaster functions aren't the greatest.
It is not the greatest toaster but it is passable.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
General discussion about electric cooking appliances
it’s good cheap electric cooking
Casual discussion about the utility of a toaster.
How would your OC react if I gave them a 2001 Cuisinart Toaster?
Jimmy: OH YEAH A NEW FRIEND!
Ami: Umm… Thank you? Hey, a toaster is a toaster! Then again, we can use one in case ours bites the bucket.
Casual remarks on pizza appearance and quality
Had a bit of trouble with the peel. 72 hour (70% hydro) ferment. 😋
It's not perfectly round, but it definitely looks sooooo good!!
Discussion about the importance of durability in toasters
I hate buying things that are just designed to die as soon as you can't return them.
Nothing special but had it like 8 years so far and still works like new.
I like the idea of not throwing out one every couple of years so I guess..
Comparison of toaster performance
It's a great oven, but the air fryer and toaster functions aren't the greatest
Nah, you're fine. For stuff like that it will do the job, just will take a little longer than a dedicated air fryer.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Preference for unconventional toaster designs
My favorite is a long toaster. Only one slot, but long enough to toast two normal slices of bread, or one really wide slice.
Bagel function usage tips
LPT: This also works great for toasting hamburger buns. Keeps the inside from getting soggy from condiments.
Discussion about air fryer usage under cabinets
It probably gets hot on top and could potentially damage the underside of the cabinets.
They have sliding trays. I would find one that you can pull the air fryer out when you use it and then push it back in when finished so it doesn’t heat the cabinets.
It needs air circulation space. Pull it from under the counter when in use.
General discussion on air fryer usage
It takes longer than a conventional toaster, but mine works fine.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion about alternative toaster options
Haven't had it long enough to say bifl, but can confirm, it makes great toast.
I second this! Also if u look for 2nd hand ones can get for crazy cheap! Got mine for like £11 and only needed one element replacing!.
Loooooooooove my dualit.
I like it because it has a button for frozen bread that is like voodoo.
Discussion on toaster maintenance
Maybe not emptying the crumb catcher? If I don’t at least once a week the crumbs build up to the heating element and mayhem ensues.
Nope, clean it really carefully and regularly. We eat a really nutty seedy bread, and it is always full, so we're really careful about that.
At the bottom there's a little drawer you pull out to throw the crumbs away. That's it.
Curiosity about toaster lifespan
I've had the same toaster for at least 10 years.
How easy is it to clean?
Conversations regarding the value of cheap vs expensive toasters
I’ll buy a cheap one every couple of years before I spend 10x the price of an average one
Discussion about cleaning the toaster
How can I clean the inside of the toaster that I can’t reach
Check underneath for a latch of some sort. The last few I’ve had, even cheap ones had a small curved piece at the end where you push in, it pops the bottom off
Compressed air. Just watch out for flying crumbs lol
I just wanted to make a distinction here; use the compressed air from an air compressor, NOT the compressed air from one of those canned dusters that you find for cleaning electronics and stuff.
Price drop observations
That's a great price. They dropped from $129.97 to $99.97 last week here.
Discussion about cooking time adjustments
But I generally just keep an eye on my stuff if I never cooked it before easier to put it back in if not done.
Looks like you should try cooking it shorter or at a lower temperature or both.
If you've continually done the same thing over and over and gotten the same result (way overdone), perchance it's time to try something different?
Discussion on cleaning methods for damaged surfaces
clean the surface to ensure you have removed any flaking, then turn your toaster oven on the highest temp with "air fry" or convection and run it for 15 min after it is heated up to temperature.
While the crumb tray's finish is damaged, it should still be safe to use if thoroughly cleaned.
Discussion about alternatives to Cuisinart
I'll post my impressions once I'm done testing it.
Discussion about market interest in Cuisinart toaster ovens
Nice looking pie! What model Cuisinart? I’m in the market myself.
I’m in the market for one of these. Your pizza looks fantastic!
Discussion about troubleshooting Cuisinart appliances
Sorry if this is the wrong board to post in (feel free to delete if so), but I have a food processor that won't turn on, and I'm trying to figure out if something is wrong with my outlets, or if I have bed luck buying food processors.
It sounds like it could be a fuse (if it has one), or a switch has gone bad (possibly the safety switch that prevents unwanted activation when the container is not in place).

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Positive long-term durability feedback
They're bombproof, work a treat, and you'll leave it to your children.
I have a Hamilton beach long slot toaster, 2 slots but toast 4 slices of toast a a time, 10 years old now
Discussion about the challenges of finding a reliable toaster
All I want is a consistently well-browned toast.
Discussion about toaster longevity and reliability
What is everyone’s favorite toaster, 2 or 4 slice? My Oster 2 slice is probably approaching 20yrs and is not toasting as reliably recently and it may be time to retire it.
I think this is a product where the functional part is so simple and straightforward, that there aren't a lot of points for failure.
its not exactly a blender, it’s just a heating element in a box.
The toaster is older than I am, was my grandmother's, my parents and I acquired it in 1984. I grew up with it, only toaster I've ever used and it makes perfect toast!
Discussion about quality concerns with cheaper options
Is the cheapest of any concern with quality.
User frustrations with various kitchen appliances
Toaster that is fast and good! My toaster sucks balls.
User experiences with air fryer heating
I have that exact air fryer and backsplash. This post just mindfucked me.
Conversations about alternative toaster brands and models
Dualit classic toasters are what you're looking for. Hand-built in the UK since the 50s, design icon, last forever.
They are built like tanks. Very simple but good. I’ve had one for 20+ years. No issues.
Classic Design. Restaurant Quality Build. Replacement Parts Available.
In all my experience with them, I've never seen one go wrong.
