Snoop's Take

Dial Antibacterial Foaming Hand Wash, Spring Water, is designed to kill more than 99.99% of bacteria encountered in household settings while being gentle on the skin. Many users appreciate its effectiveness for specific situations, such as cleaning fresh tattoos and managing skin conditions, with one user stating, "it's never steered me wrong" when used for tattoo aftercare. However, some consumers caution against its daily use due to concerns about skin irritation and the potential for bacteria resistance, leading to mixed feelings about its overall necessity and safety. Based on the feedback gathered, Dial Antibacterial Foaming Hand Wash is generally well-received for particular uses but may not be recommended for everyday cleaning due to concerns about irritation and the potential for creating resistant bacteria strains. Users suggest considering alternatives for routine handwashing, emphasizing that regular soap can be just as effective without the risks associated with antibacterial products. Overall, while it has its strengths, especially for targeted applications, consumers should weigh these against the potential drawbacks before deciding to use it regularly.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Effective for specific situations like open wounds
For your situation I would definitely recommend it.
In general, antibacterial is to be avoided for everyday use, unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Helps with specific skin conditions
I realized it helped with that in my pits and 🍑. And I don’t need deodorant when I use it which is crazy in this heat.
Kids can easily use regular foaming dispensers
Do you have recommendations for a foaming hand soap dispenser?
My 2 and 5 year olds have been able to use any regular foaming dispenser just fine.
Reliable for cleaning fresh tattoos
Then Dial gold antibacterial is what I use on fresh tattoos.
it's never steered me wrong.
i heard dial gold is really good might have to get some.
Effective for tattoo aftercare
This method has never failed me.
I always see dial gold recommended for aftercare, but I also always see aftercare instructions state 'fragrance free'.
Gold dial and aquaphor are what I’ve used every time and haven’t had any trouble as of now.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Unnecessary for daily use and may promote resistance
Please do not use antimicrobial or antibacterial washes or soaps.
Good advice. It’s not needed.
You don't want them to evolve resistance, that's why you shouldn't use antibacterial soap to wash up.
Regular soap is excellent and all one needs to clean their hands and body.
Can irritate skin with frequent use
I didn’t feel clean after using it! I mean, I know I was super duper clean but I didn’t like how it made my skin feel *at all*.
It seems like everyone everywhere recommends to use the gold dial soap, but I can’t even use that just to wash my hands after trips to the bathroom as it’ll cause my eczema to flare up.
I’ve never used or recommended the dial soap in my fourteen years of tattooing or my twenty years of getting tattooed.
Fragrance may irritate sensitive skin
i have noticed dial gold antibacterial has fragrance on the ingredient list, never had an issue but if you have sensitive skin it could be something to think about.
Dial’s own website clearly lists “parfum (fragrance)” in the ingredient list!
Soap may ruin tattoos
**NO SOAP!!** Because it can ruin the tattoo!!
I have always been told soap with absolutely no fragrance in it.
I was dumbfounded when she said not to use soap lol
Soap is too harsh for fresh piercings.
Please do not use soap, it has additives that are waaaaay to harsh for a fresh piercing.
Don’t use soap, get a can of sterile saline solution (0.9% sodium chloride and water without any additives)
Soap is quite harsh for fresh wounds and it can actually dry out your skin.
Can ruin tattoos
They’re talking about antibacterial soap - dial, Softsoap, etc - as long as it’s the orange one.
Diluting liquid soap can create hospitable conditions for bacteria.
You basically end up with something that bacteria would find quite hospitable.
just because it's liquid doesn't mean that diluting it with water won't make it more hospitable to microbes.
Foaming soap may lead to a false sense of cleanliness.
Having foam on your hands does not make them clean.

Comments on soap bubble formation and its perception
There's no 'chemical' in soap to make it foam.
Will never forget the shift manager's face, as he kept mouthing the words 'fucking bubbles.... fucking bubbles..'.
I'll admit I have not understood the hatred of 'chemical' soaps.
General commentary about the use of disclosing tablets for oral hygiene
He has improved his technique greatly since!
My kids love using the ceplak tablets to see how well they're brushing.
Discussion about toddler-friendly soap dispensers
Method doesn’t dry our hands out and I like the smell.
We have an automated duckie dispenser and a regular plastic Trader Joe’s hand pump (non-foaming).
My 2.5 year old is now possessive about ‘her’ soap.
We use the Everspring foaming handsoap from Target and my kids use it with no problem.

Discussion regarding the economic comparison of bar soap to liquid soap.
If priced in line with foaming hand soap, a bar of Dial would be $274 a bar!

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Debate on antibacterial soap effectiveness
Soaps are inherently anti-microbial.
the use of antibiotics was always only a marketing ploy as the soap kills virtually all of the batceria already.
Concerns about over-cleanliness affecting health
It’s a balance to keep between being too clean and being too dirty I feel.
Discussion about effectiveness of antibacterial soaps compared to regular soaps.
Between foam, liquid, or bar, what is the best type of soap for handwashing? No text content
I prefer this one because it includes interesting information about *why* soap works, why it doesn't need to be "antibacterial," and why simply washing your hands is more effective than using hand sanitizer.
Nostalgic memories related to childhood experiences with soap
Glad I didn't go through that, I'm sure I ate a lot of soap bars growing up though -_- that and dish soap thanks to my parents lol.
The only time I got my mouth washed out with soap was when I was three and I said "damn".
I used those as a kid. Worked great.
It was a hassle and it was extremely messy.
Discussion on soap scum from true soaps versus liquid soaps
I am positively overwhelmed with the amount of responses I got and also with the discussion between redditors I ignited xD
This is because hard soaps are almost always “true” soaps, whereas liquid soaps are mostly “detergents”.
Concerns about stagnant water in diluted soap.
I hate to use *germs are evil* scare tactics, but stagnant water can get pretty nasty even if it's in a closed container.
Debate on the effectiveness and necessity of antibacterial soap.
Am I just fucking stupid, or does it seem a bit absurd that people would market a soap that becomes 'something that bacteria would find quite hospitable' when it's mixed with water?
