Snoop's Take

Dr. Brown's Natural Flow Anti-Colic Options+ Narrow Glass Baby Bottle is a 2-pack 8 oz bottle engineered to reduce colic, gas, and spit-up with a unique anti-colic internal vent system and breast-like Level 1 Slow Flow nipple. It mimics the natural breastfeeding experience while being made from safe, BPA-free glass. Community feedback is as vibrant as it is divided; many parents cheer its performance, with one proclaiming, "Hands down best bottle we ever had. Never had a leak," while others grumble about the cleaning challenges and finicky nipple performance. Multiple voices note that once you switch to the 8oz design, leak issues largely vanish, though assembly and cleaning remain a sore spot for some users. Overall, comments highlight the bottle’s effective anti-colic design tempered by maintenance hassles. In conclusion, the bottle earns recommendation for its anti-colic benefits and leak-proof design, making it a strong contender for parents focused on reducing colic and ensuring safety. However, if ease of cleaning is paramount, potential buyers might want to weigh alternative options before committing.

They are vents to prevent gas/air bubbles from getting into the nipple to keep your baby from ingesting a bunch of air.

Positive Feedback

I think it’s incredible that Dr Browns has convinced a whole generation of parents to use their bottles and think they’re the best without having any clear idea what those green parts inside actually do. Seriously, does anyone actually know or is this like Daylight savings where we all just do it and don’t really know why??

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Effective anti‐colic design
They are vents to prevent gas/air bubbles from getting into the nipple to keep your baby from ingesting a bunch of air.
I opened the box and said "wtf is this" and opened the instruction pamphlet and found they were optional so I put them aside.
We use the Dr brown's bottles and baby boy went from horrible gas and vomiting to drinking a lot better.
We switched from the Phillips to the dr browns anti colic bottles and our lo has decreased the amount of air swallowed.
Safe glass construction
Dr brown’s makes glass bottles. Don’t heat milk in plastic
8oz design offers improved leak performance
I switched to the 8oz glass ones and they never leak!
The glass ones work better than the plastic for Dr Browns.
Once we moved to the 8oz I found a lot less leaking.
Mostly at 4oz for us they were horribly leaky, when we moved to the 8oz we haven’t had any issues unless it was an install error by us.
8oz glass design offers improved leak performance and reliability
You can just omit the green inserts if they’re being annoying.
We had issues with leaking with the 4oz bottles once he was drinking 4oz but once we switched to the 8oz bottles, we had no issues.
Also they seem much cleaner, the plastic bottles got cloudy fast.
You can’t put a full bottle loose in a bag or lay it on its side, but otherwise no issues at all.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Difficult to clean design
I think it’s incredible that Dr Browns has convinced a whole generation of parents to use their bottles and think they’re the best without having any clear idea what those green parts inside actually do. Seriously, does anyone actually know or is this like Daylight savings where we all just do it and don’t really know why??
Personally I found the Dr Browns to be a major pain to clean, and our kiddo did better with the Tommee Tippee bottles
Great bottles. So sick of cleaning them, though.
I hate them. And I don't understand why people give them such good reviews.
Leaking issues with bottle assembly
I have had it up to here with these dang bottles.
if they ever leaked it was because I didn’t tighten the caps down enough or sometimes I didn’t pull the nipple all the way into the cap 🤷🏻‍♀️
Poor nipple performance
Only thing is their nipples are really hard to suck from for many babies (mine included) and we needed to go up on it, at one week old she was using their 1+month nipple (number 3).
I second this!!! I wish we didn’t buy the dr browns.
I'm typing this as I'm covered in formula holding my sleeping baby who is also covered in formula.
I read somewhere that if they are continuously leaking to go up a flow size!! It solved our problem.
Improper assembly alignment causes leaks
They are a pain in the ass, yes, but it just takes some experience and patience putting them together to get them to work properly.
Then I usually run my finger around the inside where the nipple sits against the collar just to be sure.
I in fact literally just made that mistake like 30 minutes ago 🤪 hope that helps.
Philips avent Natural Response Baby Bottle seem to do well with our LO when the dr brown isnt leaking.
Tightening balance is critical to prevent leaks
Don’t tighten it as much. If it’s too tight, it leaks.
I've found there's a sweet spot of not over tightening the lid. If I tighten it too much, the nipple sort of caves in on one side causing leakage.
Have you tried tightening it more? I thought I was tightening it enough and it was still leaking, then my husband came in and tightened it even more and I had no more problems after that
General leak issues reported across multiple threads
Help! We need alternatives to Dr. Browns bottles.
Dr. Brown's Bottles are literally the worst baby product ever These things leak like it's their job.
Just imagine, you’re up at 2am feeding your baby and these bottles soak up milk on your baby’s clothing, yours, and you’re dealing with latching a baby who’s having bottle aversion. I’m done.
Green vent insert is problematic—causing leaks and offering limited usefulness
We just ditched the green vents and are having a much smoother experience with Dr. Brown’s.
This! If you have the Options+ version they can be used with and without the green venting pieces.
I didn’t even think I could use them without the pieces.
It was GAME CHANGING when we discovered we could use them without the vents!
Assembly issues with nipple seating and improper tightening lead to leaks
That's the biggest cause of leaks I've had with Dr. Brown's.
The only time they leaked for us was when we over tightened them.
If so, the liquid will expand as it heats, which forces it up into the anti-colic vent, and the bottle will leak.
Ineffective anti‑colic performance for gas relief
Baby gas sucks!
Btw - “anti-colic” is a misnomer, it’s basically anti-air.
I feel like my baby gets a bad latch so all these “anti-colic” bottles do nothing.
It almost seems like there’s just too little gas that gets in, but only just a little, so it makes it wayyyy harder to burp the baby to actually make them happy.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on alternative washable cloth wipes
One option is to use washable cloth wipes.
What happened with the wipes? Stopped using because they caused irritation and stinging for my LO
We bought enough to where we have two tissue boxes full on rotation while another box is in the laundry.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Confusing heating instructions
I have heated up milk in Dr browns bottles with the inserts in every day for 9 months and have only had leakage issues when they are overfilled or not screwed on right.
I also had no idea you weren't supposed to warm them all assembled, so myself and daycare have been doing so since three months in.
Had no idea you weren't supposed to, haha.
The bottles specifically say not to heat them with the funnel and nipple attached.
Concerns over plastic bottle degradation over time
No. The plastics degrade over time, especially when heated (i.e., when sterilized or put in the dishwasher)
But just tossed them in prep for number 2 bc (as another said) plastic degrades and now that I'm out of the infant haze I realize it's just safer/smarter to start fresh.
Would it matter how often the first bottles were used?
Concerns about microplastics and chemical exposure
Any bottle made out of any plastic is just as prone to shipping microplastics.
There’s essentially microplastics in everything. (Not scare mongering, unfortunately it’s becoming reality).
The thing that gets me about all this fuss in the news is that PFAS are so prevalent now, they are literally already in unborn babies.
Lawsuit concerns impacting bottle perceptions
It took me forever to find a bottle for one of our twins to actually eat from.
So what the hell are we supposed to do? PPA is enough of a bitch as it is, so sure, let’s stack another doomsday worry onto the list.
