Snoop's Take

Dr. Brown's Natural Flow Anti-Colic Options+ Baby Bottles are engineered to reduce colic symptoms such as gas, spit-up, and burping while facilitating a feeding experience that closely mimics natural breastfeeding. The design includes a slow flow, breast-shaped nipple and an internal vent system that preserves milk nutrients and aids digestion. Consumer sentiment is as polarized as one would expect from a product with many moving parts. While several parents swear by its anti-colic performance—one reviewer noted, 'We use the Dr brown's bottles and baby boy went from horrible gas and vomiting to drinking a lot better'—others bemoan the excessive parts, leakage issues, and challenging nipple assembly. Some applaud the consistent flow rate and leak-proof design when used correctly, but the recurring complaints over misalignment and cleaning difficulties have not gone unnoticed. Overall, the community finds that the success of these bottles largely depends on meticulous assembly and usage. In conclusion, while the product offers innovative anti-colic technology and sustainable design, its practical challenges—especially concerning leaks and cleaning—suggest that it’s best suited for parents who are precise in handling baby bottle assembly. For those who can master its quirks, it can be a reliable choice in its category, but caution is warranted if you’re averse to troubleshooting assembly details.

Positive Feedback

I think it’s incredible that Dr Browns has convinced a whole generation of parents to use their bottles and think they’re the best without having any clear idea what those green parts inside actually do. Seriously, does anyone actually know or is this like Daylight savings where we all just do it and don’t really know why??

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Effective anti‐colic performance (reduces gas, spit‑up, and colic)
We use the Dr brown's bottles and baby boy went from horrible gas and vomiting to drinking a lot better.
We switched from the Phillips to the dr browns anti colic bottles and our lo has decreased the amount of air swallowed.
We had little to no issues with gas or spit up.
We have used them with great success with my spitting up babies.
Reliable performance when used as directed
Had no idea you weren't supposed to, haha.
Effective anti‐colic performance
Never had trouble with leaks and it was the only bottle that kept my boys colic free.
Agreed, used the same sets for both our boys during the last 4 years without issue
Leak‐free performance when used correctly
Hands down best bottle we ever had. Never had a leak.
I have not had this issue with their bottles.
Yeah, we used the Dr Brown glass bottles, 8 oz and 5 oz, for like 11 months through 3 nipple size changes and never had any leaks.
I’ve exclusively used Dr browns and haven’t had a single leak. Both plastic and glass.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Difficult to clean due to many parts
I think it’s incredible that Dr Browns has convinced a whole generation of parents to use their bottles and think they’re the best without having any clear idea what those green parts inside actually do. Seriously, does anyone actually know or is this like Daylight savings where we all just do it and don’t really know why??
But seriously, I F@$*ing hate these bottles.
Leakage issues even with correct assembly
Bottle recommendations? NOT Dr Browns Anti Colic I have had it up to here with these dang bottles.
Wide neck which is helpful for when you’re pouring formula in.
I’d like to have a word with whoever designed the Dr. Brown's Anti-Colic Bottles...
Yes, id say 2 of them leak regularly, and we're not sure why.
Nipple flow problems (nipples too slow or unresponsive)
Only thing is their nipples are really hard to suck from for many babies (mine included) and we needed to go up on it.
I don’t understand the love at all. My babies never responded well to their nipples either.
4oz bottles leak more than larger sizes
The small ones (4oz) always leaked really bad for me.
Mostly at 4oz for us they were horribly leaky, when we moved to the 8oz we haven’t had any issues unless it was an install error by us.
Confusing heating guidelines
If you can't send the bottles with the travel lids on and have the staff assemble the bottle after heating, they wouldn't be great for daycare use.
I do prefer to use the Avent Natural on the go though!
Leak issues with 4oz bottles
Help! We need alternatives to Dr. Browns bottles
My son would only use Dr. Brown bottles. We had issues with leaking with the 4oz bottles once he was drinking 4oz but once we switched to the 8oz bottles, we had no issues.
Dr. Brown's Bottles are literally the worst baby product ever These things leak like it's their job.
Except when my in-laws used them, then they leaked every time.
Difficult nipple assembly causing leaks
I also found I sometimes had to push my finger inside the rim of the nipple part to get it properly in there.
Seconding pushing finger around the inside of the nipple rim to get it seated correctly.
Plastic degrades over time with repeated heating/sterilization
The plastics degrade over time, especially when heated (i.e., when sterilized or put in the dishwasher)
But just tossed them in prep for number 2 bc (as another said) plastic degrades and now that I'm out of the infant haze I realize it's just safer/smarter to start fresh.
Limited anti‑colic effectiveness (does not significantly reduce gas)
Baby gas sucks!
Btw - “anti-colic” is a misnomer, it’s basically anti-air.
I feel like my baby gets a bad latch so all these “anti-colic” bottles do nothing.
It almost seems like there’s just too little gas that gets in, but only just a little, so it makes it wayyyy harder to burp the baby to actually make them happy.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on cloth wipes alternatives
One option is to use washable cloth wipes.
What happened with the wipes? Stopped using because they caused irritation and stinging for my LO
These were our favorites in the “Tensile Strength to Wetness ratio” category.
It was mainly because everything irritated her, but this was a huge plus for that.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Unclear function of the vent system (confusion over the green parts)
I opened the box and said "wtf is this" and opened the instruction pamphlet and found they were optional so I put them aside.
Concerns about heating plastic safety
Dr. Browns Baby Bottles toxic?
Honestly, you should never heat anything plastic, even things that claim to be microwave safe.
Any plastic is iffy so if it’s important you you stick with glass bottles
I mean that’s an issue with heating every plastic item. I’d look into glass bottles.
Concerns over plastic safety and lawsuit debates
Any bottle made out of any plastic is just as prone to shipping microplastics.
I don’t think their claim is false and definitely think this is a money grab.
I switched to glass too and we replace the nipples monthly but now I’m worried about the seal ring and the cap bc we sanitize both.
What do you do if you’re pumping? Do you pump directly into the glass?
Plastic safety concerns and microplastics/lawsuit debates
pumped breast milk is pumped into plastic, stored in plastic bags, formula is scooped into bottles with a plastic scoop, we mix our formula with distilled water from a plastic jug, there’s microplastics in actual breast milk for Christ’ sake. So what the hell are we supposed to do?
There’s essentially microplastics in everything. (Not scare mongering, unfortunately it’s becoming reality).
And while we are all exposed to microplastics, I do try and limit where I can.
The thing that gets me about all this fuss in the news is that PFAS are so prevalent now, they are literally already in unborn babies. They are everywhere, not just those 2 bottles brands.
