What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Dr. Brown's bottles helped reduce colic
Until I found Avent. At first I tried the anti-colic which worked great until I found the Avent Natural bottles.
Our baby will literally only take the Dr. Brown bottles and we've tried alll the alternatives.
Never had trouble with leaks and it was the only bottle that kept my boys colic free.
used the same sets for both our boys during the last 4 years without issue
Vents help reduce gas and colic
They are vents to prevent gas/air bubbles from getting into the nipple to keep your baby from ingesting a bunch of air.
Less parts to clean with Options+ bottles
Works well, and less parts to clean!
Dr. Brown's bottles are effective for some babies
Yes this. My baby hates Comotomo but will do Dr Browns and Mam.
Bottles do not leak with proper use
That explains a lot. Without the inserts it will leak everywhere, no doubt!
The only time they leaked for us was when we over tightened them.
Dr. Brown's Options+ bottles are effective
Even when I just "shake" the bottle, I really just swirl it in a circle, it still fucking leaks.
8oz glass bottles do not leak
My 4oz plastic ones leaked all the time. It was really frustrating. I switched to the 8oz glass ones and they never leak!
Glass Dr. Brown's bottles do not leak
Glass Dr brown are my fave with no leaks!
Proper assembly can prevent leaks
The secret to not having your dr browns bottles leak is to make sure the screwed on nipple lid is loose when you put them in the warmer.
I really only have leaking issues if the nipple isn't screwed on tight enough or I fall asleep with a bottle in my hand and it all Leake out the nipple lol.
Dr. Brown's regular anti-colic bottles are loved
No experience with Dr. Browns wide neck - only the regular anti colic which we love!!
Dr. Brown's bottles are dishwasher safe without warping
all their products are dishwasher safe, but I'm still wary of the potential issues that I mentioned, so I would love to hear people's experiences with this.
Use dr. brown's (glass and plastic) in a munchkin basket. High heat, daily washing (and then some) with high heat dry. No issues with warpage or anything that you've mentioned.
I wash our bottles in the dishwasher every single night. I have zero extra time to hand-wash bottles 😛
We wash our Dr. Brown's bottles in the dishwasher with no issues. Our LO is 11 months so she doesn't
Bottles can be used in a dishwasher basket
Works fine for us. We wash every evening with the dr browns formula pitcher.
Proper nipple size can improve feeding experience
What worked for us was playing around with the nipple sizes instead.
Size 1 nipple can be sufficient for longer than suggested age
If I go up too early, how will I know that the level 1 was better?
FYI You don’t need to go up in nipple size if size 1 is working well.
T nipple size helps with feeding issues
There is a size “T” nipple and that is between a preemie and 1.
It annoys me so much the T nipples are like some hidden secret you have to discover through word of mouth!!
Fourth vote for T nipples. I couldn’t find them in stores but was able to get them on Amazon.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Too many parts and difficult to clean
Over-designed, too many parts, assembly is a nightmare when your newborn is screeching in your ear at 5am.
Some babies may have more gas with Dr. Brown's bottles
The best bottles are the ones that your baby take a liking to.
Plastic leaching concerns
so far, we love them! Highly recommend.
Bottles may leak if not assembled correctly
They leaked when baby was drinking milk, not while pumping.
Bottles leak if not assembled correctly
Switching from Dr. Brown wide mouth bottles to Phillips AVENT Natural bottles! I need advice!🙏🏼
I’m so done with the Dr. Brown’s bottles leaking everywhere.
Anyone else have issues with Dr. Brown's baby bottles leaking? These bottles seem to have overcomplicated a very simply function.
I wasn’t convinced the Dr. brown’s bottle’s anti colic feature actually worked since my baby was still incredibly gassy using it.
Many parts to clean
Terrible experience, would not recommend
Some babies dislike Dr. Brown's bottles
Kiddo liked the Avent bottles the best, he really disliked Dr. Brown’s which was a shame because we were gifted some nice ones lol.
Bottles leak if not used with inserts
they just left it out and complained about how crappy these doctor browns bottles are.
Too many parts are difficult to clean
Any leaks we had were user error. I did get incredibly sick of hand washing all the individual parts though.
Bottles can leak if not tightened correctly
So it leaks when the vent fills up with liquid
They do leak if you don’t tighten them correctly.
Frequent complaints about leaking
Careful! Those words unleash the curse! I saw a complaint about them a week ago and thought to myself “oh darn thankfully mine don’t leak!” and here I am.
Bottles frequently leak
their fancy patented vent tube is just a hole that leaks through the collar and all over baby's face, neck, hair, clothes, mom/dad.
they always leak and the baby always cries.
Some babies may gag when transitioning to larger nipples
My baby has been on size 1 for a while and she is 9 months old. I tried moving up several times and every time she gagged like she was being waterboarded and refused to eat, lol.
Feeding pace can lead to baby frustration
Then when the baby gets into a good rhythm, I let it rip at full speed.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Preference for nipple flow rates varies among babies
We switched from Dr Brown to Avent recently and holy heck it was a game changer.
Probably a 2 or even 3.
I am using a 3 for Philips and a 2 for my Dr Brown bottle for my 10wk old.
He does perfectly fine with the Phillips Avent, I just want to see if there’s a trick or solution to the Dr brown ones or if I just need to chalk them up as a loss.
Baby preferences vary widely among bottle types
the only thing that leaks is the baby.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Baby preferences vary widely among different bottle brands
My baby only takes Mam. We tried everything from tommee tippee to Nuk to nano bebe and she only takes Mam.
Choosing between narrow neck and wide neck bottles involves many factors
People often say wide neck bottles are more similar to the breast but there isn't much research behind how effective that is.
Comparison of different bottle brands
MAM bottle have a rubber thing in the bottom with air holes which helps! As baby sucks at one end, the vacuum pulls air in at the other, meaning way less bubbles.
The nipple flow may be too slow, Philips Avent nipples don't flow on their own, the baby has to actively suck to get milk.
Comparison to Comotomo bottles
Not a fan of them, we do have the Como Tomo bottles tho and those are amazing.
User experiences with feeding techniques vary
Feeding has become chaotic when it didn’t used to be, and sometimes she is upset for some time afterwards, seemingly due to trapped gas.
Paced feeding is bullshit unless it’s for a medical condition. It’s lactivist propaganda.
Our baby chugs and loves it lol. I also think she gets less air when she’s drinking faster but that’s anecdotal.
Every baby is different in terms of nipple size preferences
Usually she just starts being really slow and distracted and fission more and that’s when I try the next one.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
User experience varies greatly with assembly
Honestly I was pretty ok with assembling the parts but washing everything individually killed me lol!
Confusion about how bottle parts function
I think it’s incredible that Dr Browns has convinced a whole generation of parents to use their bottles and think they’re the best without having any clear idea what those green parts inside actually do.
Babies have unique preferences for bottle brands
What brand baby bottle worked best for you? I’ve seen lansinoh and evenflo were really good! I’m an infant teacher and I really like the Avent bottles, and Dr Brown, currently trying for a baby and I just can’t decide so just curious which bottles you and your LO’s liked or that worked best for them?
Don’t buy a bunch of bottles! Get the free baby bags from target and Amazon, they have some bottles in them. Wait and see what kinds of bottles your baby will take! I bought a tonnn of Dr. Brown’s because I heard they had good ratings and my girl was not about them.
Mixing bottle brands can lead to varied experiences
even still by the time I went back to work in an office at like 9 months he would take literally any bottle
Mine had Dr brown bottle
Frustration over bottle nipple size compatibility
Just trying to make sure we're leveling up right in both nipple and bottle size.
We have large bottles with the level 2 nipples from dr browns
Tightening can affect leakage
Don’t tighten it as much. If it’s too tight, it leaks.
That’s what I’m going to try. I tighten the shit out the bottle so it doesn’t leak
User experiences with bottle assembly vary
What I cannot stand is the constant change in design when buying more bottles! I have bought 3 sets of bottles I have bought. (They are all different.)
User experiences with Dr. Brown's bottles vary
I’d like to use a wide mouth/anti collic bottle, but the phillips Avent bottles had similar complaints.
we use the MAM wide-neck anti colic bottles and love them.
Varying experiences with washing bottles in a dishwasher
Haven't had any problems yet, although only two weeks in and only machine wash bottles about once a week so maybe more frequent washing could do damage.
