Snoop's Take

The Hamilton Beach 47621 The Scoop Single Serve Coffee Maker is designed for coffee lovers who want a simple, eco-friendly brewing experience. It allows users to scoop their favorite ground coffee directly into the permanent filter, eliminating the need for wasteful pods and paper filters. Consumer sentiment around this product is mixed, with many appreciating its environmental benefits, as one user noted, "Best single serve coffeemaker that does NOT use pods". However, some users expressed dissatisfaction with the coffee's taste, stating that "the coffee it made wasn’t great" and that cleaning the reusable filter can be a hassle. Additionally, concerns were raised about coffee splashing during brewing, leading to messy countertops. Overall, while the Hamilton Beach Scoop Coffee Maker offers a unique, eco-friendly approach to single-serve brewing, its mixed reviews on taste and usability suggest it may not be the best choice in its category for everyone. Prospective buyers should consider their priorities when selecting a single-serve coffee maker.

Best single serve coffeemaker that does NOT use pods? I'm a single woman who enjoys a good cup of coffee, but I absolutely hate how much waste is involved with Keurig brewers, and cleaning the reusable filters is a pain, so I'm getting tired of that as well.

Positive Feedback

I still like the taste of my french press better.

Eco-friendly and reduces waste

I love mine tastes better than the pods cause it lets the oil thru, unlike pods that have a paper filter inside.
What are some exceptions to this?
I'd like a single-serve machine where I can just scoop in grounds, hit a button, throw out grounds, and repeat the next day.

Poor taste of coffee
Best single serve coffee maker for under $50? I'm back to the struggle again finding a single serve coffee maker that doesn't make coffee that tastes like ass.
I had the Hamilton one, the coffee it made wasn’t great. I’d give it a “meh.”
Coffee tastes bad when brewed with Hamilton Beach Single Serve Coffee Brewer. I have used it for 3 weeks now and the coffee is nowhere close to my office coffee.
Coffee can splash and make a mess
with the cup on the base, the coffee splashes all over, making a mess.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Preference for machines that use paper filters
I was looking for a single serve that uses paper filters for this reason.
Seeking a coffee maker with dual functionality for both coffee and hot water.
Single-serve coffee maker that also makes clean hot water? I have an old Hamilton Beach FlexBrew 49988 that I think has finally given up the ghost today.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Preference for machines over manual methods
Once I've ground the coffee, I really want to be able to press a button and go on with getting ready for work while my coffee brews.
So, I'm looking for a single serve machine that doesn't use cups or pods(again the idea is to cut down on waste/cost.)
Its cheap, easy to clean, makes the best cup of coffee I've had and it only takes <5min from when I start manually grinding (manual burr grinder) til I have a fresh cup of coffee.
Burr grinder. Life improve 10000%.
Preference for manual brewing methods
Better than any keurig or similar because you can use appropriate temperature water and adjust your ratio
Manual methods (french press, pour-over, aeropress...) can all make a single cup and will never just stop working.
Most of us will recommend a manual method. You could get a chemex and brew about any amount you would like.

Reflection on product durability and pricing
And it made me realize that that’s probably by design.
A BIFL coffee maker. It also, and most don't, gets the water hot enough to brew good coffee.
Manual pour over and kettle, quality espresso setup ($$ though), bunn style commercial brewer are the most bifl I can think of
Experience with switching from a different brand
I replaced the Cuisine Art because it wasn't quite hot enough... I'd put it in the microwave for 20 seconds after brewing.
