Snoop's Take

The Homemate Heated Blanket Electric Throw is a versatile and cozy heating solution designed for comfort and warmth in colder months. With its soft flannel and sherpa materials, it offers both a luxurious feel and efficient heating, making it ideal for use on the couch or in bed. Consumer feedback highlights its comfort and warmth, with many users noting, "It's amazingly cozy" and praising its energy efficiency, stating that it can effectively maintain warmth even in low temperatures. The blanket's auto shut-off feature has also been well-received, as one user mentioned, "Modern Electric Blankets are Safe... It will turn off itself if it overheats." However, some concerns have been raised regarding controller issues and safety risks, emphasizing the importance of cautious use. Overall, the Homemate Heated Blanket is recommended for those seeking an effective and warm electric throw, but potential buyers should remain aware of the safety concerns associated with electric blankets in general.

Love this throw!

Positive Feedback

How can I fix this electric blanket controller? While messing with the on/off switch I noticed there’s a hiccup there and now sometimes the lights are coming on.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Comfortable and warm
Love this throw!
It stopped working and changing the fuse did nothing :(
We go through several blankets a year sometimes I get new ones through warranty.
Good price point
The price point definitely can't be beat! I didn't return as I honestly wasn't aware they would take something back thay I had used for an extended period.
Safe automatic shut-off feature
Modern Electric Blankets are Safe They are safe. It will turn off itself if it overheats.
I use it to heat my bed up at night up here in the frigid north and I can justify keeping my heat down a little lower.
Ever since i bought one as an adult 5 years ago I feel safe using it now
Every single review page of modern electric blankets includes reviews about overheating, melting, or failing after a few uses.
Energy-efficient alternative to heating
I’ve had the indoor temp go down to 60 and I still feel completely fine overnight.
Comfortable and cozy warmth
It's amazingly cozy.
Bed feels soooo cozy.
Preheat the bed! Turn on your mattress 10 minutes before bedtime, it is delicious to crawl into a warm bed.
Energy-efficient usage
So, if you have a jackary 1000, that means you would get 3 nights roughly.
This saves lots of energy and I think works better than an electric blanket, YRMV.

Controller issues and potential safety risks
How can I fix this electric blanket controller? While messing with the on/off switch I noticed there’s a hiccup there and now sometimes the lights are coming on.
You don't. Repairing mains-powered heaters meant to be used unattended is _not_ worth the risk.
Hate to be that guy but throw it out & replace it. Heated /electric blankets are a leading cause of fire, not worth the risk.
I agree with the other posters who have said that it is safer to scrap this and replace it.
Concerns about safety and reliability of newer models
No, the many reports of newer blankets catching fire or the controllers melting.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Suggestions for improving heat retention
newer heated blankets only get hot when there is weight on them so a weighted blanket will make the entire blanket warm for you in addition to the benefits of sleeping with a weighted blanket.
I used the lowest setting and it still woke me up an hour later from being too warm.
Evolution of technology in electric blankets
I've never thought about the tech in electric blankets advancing since the 80's for some reason.
Discussion about alternatives to electric blankets
Those suckers keep you warm! My adult children refuse to go out with me if I wear mine outside but at a certain age you go with comfort over fashion.
Down comforter and flannel sheets will have you warm all winter- no electric blanket needed.
Experiences with other heating methods
Heated mattress pads you can get some nice features too, like mine has 6 zones, 3 for each side, that can be controlled independently.
I love that I can *preheat* the bed about an hour before bedtime, and often that's enough warmth for the entire night.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Using a heated blanket while camping
Using a jackery to power a heated blanket for winter camping. Anyone els try this how did it work?
I woke up to 68% left on the 300 after using my cheap Target throw most of the night.
Looks like a great idea. All you really need is to warm it up before getting in bed.
A 12v blanket will be more efficient since you don't have to run the inverter for 120v.
Using smart technology for convenience
And get it plugged into a smart socket to turn it on from the sofa 15 mins before bed. Yummy and toasty.

Experiences with other brands
the five year clock starts all over again with the replacement blanket
I would caution against the Berkshire ones from Costco. I had mine for less than a year and it stopped working, my mom had one for a year and a half and it stopped as well.
Hey, did you find a reliable one? I've been considering [this Serta blanket](https://primelinker.com/serta-heated-blanket) but not sure if it's worth the investment.
My brother has a heated mattress pad he got from Amazon that he swears by. It can be controlled by his phone so he can pre heat it before he gets in to bed to make it nice and toasty.
Personal habits regarding heated blankets
I am literally to the point where I CAN NOT sleep without heat on me.
But then you're only warm if you stay under the blanket... Doing house chores when it's like 45 degrees inside is pretty sucky.
Low running cost
it’s costing around 1p an hour to run so probably 3-4p from October.
Washing instructions and concerns
Can I wash a heated blanket? I have a queen sized heated blanket that was gifted to me without the instructions.
A lot of instruction booklets are available online.
It feels fr insane to put this blanket in the wash even though the instructions say it's fine.
My heated blanket says to tumble dry on low heat.
Recommendations for alternatives like heated mattress pads
Nice and soft and hasn't had any issues since pruchase.
Got one from Costco a few years back and it just works.
Discussion about measuring energy usage
Buy a Watt's Up watt meter and plug it into stuff for a day.
What kind of thingamajig do you use to test this? Like is there some kind of meter that you plug your blanket into?
The conversions for electricity that preppers care about are actually very simple.
General interest in electricity consumption
I love this lol

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns about electric blanket safety
There are some things in life that can be constantly argued about, like whether or not cilantro is edible or if the thermostat should be at 65 or 72.
We’ve only had it a year. It was recalled for having a fire hazard, and only parts of it heat up, some of the coils aren’t heating.
Personal experiences with different heating methods
We had it between the sheet and comforter. Great for nights we needed it to be too cold.
Concerns about washing electric blankets
Mom, how do I wash my electric blankets?
The electric blankets have had in the past allowed me to wash them in the machine, I always did the shortest, most gentle cycle I could I put them in the dryer with towels, etc., so it wouldn’t bang around too much.
if I break it, is the cost of replacing it worth the same value as the time saved just washing it with my other things? If so, I take the risk.
Wash the blanket by itself in the machine. Cold water. Go easy on the detergent. Low spin. Once it's done you're going to want to lay it flat to dry.
