Modern Electric Blankets are Safe They are safe. It will turn off itself if it overheats.
I've never thought about the tech in electric blankets advancing since the 80's for some reason.
Oh yeah, mine shuts off after 4 hours. I use it to heat my bed up at night up here in the frigid north and I can justify keeping my heat down a little lower.
Ever since i bought one as an adult 5 years ago I feel safe using it now.
Cost-effective alternative to heating
Now I have one for in my office while I work and it's much cheaper than running a space heater.
Efficient power use with 12v blanket
A 12v blanket will be more efficient since you don't have to run the inverter for 120v.
All you really need is to warm it up before getting in bed.
Washable for easy care
Can I wash a heated blanket? I have a queen sized heated blanket that was gifted to me without the instructions.
My heated blanket says to tumble dry on low heat.

Heating yourself instead of the whole house will use much less energy, even if it's a less efficient process.

If it's safe at home, it will be fine camping, unless it gets soaking wet somehow.
Effective heating when spread out
I find that it gets overly hot when bunched up, but if it remains spread out, the heat is effectively spread out.
Once I was in a cozy bed, my body heat and blankets would keep me warm enough.

Burns are a huge risk given how polyester holds heat and their skin is so thin.
Nursing homes don't actually allow heated blankets due to the risk of burns (here in PA anyway).
