Electric knife is not preferred over hand tools
A good, sharp bread knife does a great job, and can last decades.
Dexter and Russel are the cheapest of restaurant grade hand tools and they will last you a life time without fail and give you better performance than an electric knife.
Not preferred over hand tools for slicing
Thanks, That looks amazing, but it's 500CAD. For that price I would just buy a real meat slicer.
Requires practice for optimal results
Using a sharp blade on a slick surface like frozen meat while applying a bunch of pressure is a great way to wind up in an emergency room.

Let me know what you guys are using!
It's way easier and less messy to slice with than an electric knife.
Most things with an electric motor are worse.
I would recommend a high-quality bread knife.
Discussion on the trade-offs of knife materials
It depends. Some nice kitchen knifes, like Japanese knifes are heat treated to a higher Rockwell scale.
Certain kitchen knives are heat treated to be exceptionally hard so they can take and keep a fine edge.

Discussion on the practicality of electric knives
I use my electric knife to slice bread; cut cardboard for special shapes; cut foam 'rubber', and maybe even some meat.
Thoughts on the Work Sharp Ken Onion Mk. 2? I first started sharpening knives with whetstones, but now I’m thinking of getting an electric belt sharpener like the Work Sharp Ken Onion to fix serious chips on knives.
Concerns about kitchen space for storage
yeah the price is steep...I also didn't get it because "we don't have space in the kitchen to put it" :D

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns about using knives on frozen meat
Bones chip knifes too. It’s the main reason for a softer knife.
