Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Microwave sterilizers with drying function praised for convenience
my goodness i can't see myself sterilizing any other way.
Having a sterilizer that also dries is fantastic.
I use mine literally 3 times a day to dry bottles.
I use mine twice a day and love it.
Convenience of microwave sterilizers for quick and easy use
They make sterilizers for the microwave! They’re cheap and very easy.
However the legendairy cups have a lot more parts so I’ve been doing the fridge hack with them.
Microwave sterilizers are quick, convenient, and space‐saving
We liked our microwave sterilizer, which took 4 minutes.
They're really convenient.
Electric sterilizers offer flexible cycle options
Super easy to use, it’s a life saver!

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Alternative sterilization methods (dishwasher, hot water, boiling)
Not sure why people who own dishwashers buy separate bits.
The NICU had me wash my pump parts and bottles with hot water and soap, no mention of bringing it a sterilizer or using a provided one.
I can understand wanting something that cleans more stuff at once if your baby was only bottle fed.
Alternative sterilization methods (dishwasher, boiling, instapot, washing with soap)
If you're not super worried about it, then don't waste your money on one.
We were told that unless baby is a preemie or has other concerns, washing with hot water & soap is enough!
I sterilized once, and used the dishwasher after.
A lot of the new gadgets we don’t need.
Discussion of UV sterilizers and branding ambiguity (e.g. Munchkin marketed as toy sterilizer)
They advertise it more as a toy sterilizer but it’s UV and would definitely hold pumping parts.
It can hold 2 sets of spectra parts which is great for me.
I love our Tommee Tippee UV steriliser, it’s great!
Alternative sterilization methods are popular (boiling, instant pot, dishwasher)
You can also use just a regular kettle.
Or use an instant pot.
This is what I use.
So nifty.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Uncertainty about the necessity of dedicated sterilizers
Do I need sterilizer bags?
these things exist to resolve a particular problem that lots of people have, so lots of people have these, use them, and love them.
What sterilizers have people used that would accommodate wider bottles and lots of bottle parts?
Are they needed? Or can I just let bottles air dry on a drying rack?
Sterilizers may be unnecessary with proper cleaning methods
It would feel like overkill to me for my one baby, for only a year and a half to two years.
Unless your child has a special need, I’d put a sterilizer firmly in the “not needed” category.
I guess I'm a renegade.
If it makes you happy go for it but we’ve never missed it.
Potential bottle fit issues with non‐matched sterilizers
The only thing about getting the same brand as the bottles it that they will fit more precisely.
instead of say, 10 fitting, only 6-7 did.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns about melting or warping from high sterilizing temperatures
Momcozy doesn't recommend using a steam sterilizer as it can warp the parts.
I just melted mine when I was using a sterilizing bag in the microwave.
Accidental damage from sterilizing non-compatible items
Throw the container out, get a new one and you’ll be good to go 👍🏼
Whoops I sterilized mine 😅 I’ve used my sterilizer a few times since doing that item and haven’t had any issues.
Apparently it doesn’t!
Countertop and dryer sterilizers are highly praised
Best gift we ever received.
Countertop sterilizer is just an absolute must.
Both amazing.
It is still a great purchase.
Concerns about boiling methods causing damage (melting pump parts)
I guess most people don't do that but it can't happen with a steam sterilizer.
UV sterilizers may not effectively sterilize nooks and can degrade plastic
I definitely don't think it's worth it.
