Snoop's Take

The Nathan Hydration Waist Pack with Storage Pocket & Run Flask is a versatile accessory designed for active individuals who enjoy running, hiking, cycling, or camping. With its adjustable belt and included 22oz flask, it provides both hydration and convenient storage for essentials like phones and gels. Consumer feedback highlights the comfort and lightweight design of the waist pack, with many users noting that "it doesn't bounce" and is suitable for various body types. However, there are mixed sentiments regarding its performance, as some users experienced bouncing issues while running or found it less convenient compared to hydration vests. Overall, the pack is praised for its minimalist design, with one user stating, "the zip pocket fits a few gels." Given the overall feedback, the Nathan Hydration Waist Pack is recommended for those seeking a lightweight and functional hydration solution for shorter runs or casual outdoor activities, although serious runners may prefer more stable hydration options.

First time I ran with a well fitting proper run vest it was like a dream. So lightweight. No bounce.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Comfortable and lightweight
You don't feel the weight on your waist. It doesn't bounce.
Comfortable for different body types
I prefer my Nathan handheld. It's insulated to liquid stays cold (even on 10+ runs) and it holds more than my belt.
Having the double water bottles with the fanny pack distributes the weight evenly, though.
They don't get in the way of the obstacles really.
Very little bounce and not noticeable after a while
Best belt on the market. Very little bounce and not noticeable after a while
Comfortable fit for different body types
I feel like if i didnt have particularly bony hips it would have been fantastic though lol
Comfortable fit
This one can get tight enough that it doesn't slosh at all.
No bouncing when adjusted properly
No "sloshing" or bouncing once adjusted.
Convenient storage for gels
The zip pocket fits a few gels (I've put 5). The water doesn't bounce.

Belt bounces during running
First time I ran with a well fitting proper run vest it was like a dream. So lightweight. No bounce.
but vests are just more comfortable and have less bounce.
Getting the bottles back in securely while running was just a pain.
I love it for my long runs, but I'd never wear it during a competition.
Bottle hits body while running
Sounds like you are wearing it backwards if it's hitting you in the junk.
I like the backpack/vest combo for 2+ hour runs.
the full bottles bouncing around on my chest.
Difficulty accessing the bottle while running
I've been using both the UD ultra belt and Naked Running Band for exactly the use case you described and for daily running, long runs, and ultras for years.
Difficulty finding a comfortable belt
Overall I find vests to be much more comfortable and much more functional compared to belts.
I have yet to find a belt that does not slip or move while I'm running.
Belt bounces during use
It has a bunch of pockets for my phone, gels, keys, and whatever else I may need to bring with.
Difficulty finding a comfortable fit
It doesn’t bounce and I can comfortably bring 1.5L (although I get chaffing if I wear it without a shirt).

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Preference for waist hydration solutions over backpacks
I would rather have something on my waist than on my back!
General discussion about hydration packs and alternatives
I recommend anything [Ultimate Direction](http://www.ultimatedirection.com/) sells, but also look on amazon at hydration packs and you will find a lot of decent cheaper options for packs.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Preference for vests over belts
Personally I find vests a lot more comfortable than belts! I would consider getting a vest!
I have some low profile belts but for carrying more stuff I prefer a vest/backpack. I have a friend
I hate belts because the constant pressure on my intestines causes issues.
I think a vest/pack is more comfortable than a belt.
Issues with belts for certain body types
I can't do belts without threat of pantsing myself.
Perhaps you need a slimmer bottle? The hydra flask or Salomon flasks run slimmer.
I find it much cooler than a vest.
Preference for vests over belts for hydration
love vests. Have a great one. But I do find it overkill at anything under like 90 minutes.
I hate running belts as I've never found one that didn't bounce or move up and down while running.
I much prefer a vest to a belt for hydration.
Personally, I cannot stand running belts. Don’t like feeling something on my hips/waist while running.
Preference for hydration vests over belts
Fits 3 liters and has pockets for gu, sunglasses, towel, etc. works perfect every time.
hydration belts are generally disliked because they slosh around too much and the comments here suggest either the vests, handhelds, or going without is superior.
Tips for keeping hydration cold
I put a ton of ice in it and it's awesome! I take ziplock snack bags and fill them 2/3 with water and throw them in the freezer.
Need for dog hydration solutions while running
My dog does not like to drink from the stream from the bottle and I can't pack a collapsible dish in the tiny pouch it has.
Ruff Wear "singletrack" is a dog hydration backpack! Looks big enough to hold a collapsible bowl too.
Love it for longer runs and hikes. Bonus points: my pup now carries her own poop and I don't have to smell it!
I carry a ruffwear collapsible bowl with me on my runs. It folds up fairly small and goes in a pocket of my running pack.
Comparison with other brands
The waist belt is really nice and feels locked in most of the time.
Comparison of hydration solutions among runners
OH MY GOD! IT'S *WONDERFUL!* I can stay hydrated AND keep my phone, pepper spray, and keys in the shoulder straps!!!!
I’ve learned it’s best never to compare and contrast with other runners. Everyone should do what works for them.
I should’ve just told him to shut up and bought what I wanted.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Mixed opinions on hydration gear effectiveness
Hydration belts, yes or no? I live in a country with no public water fountains so I need to carry water when I run outside.
There's nothing bad about them, but from what I've seen it's a very personal thing.
I’ve tried 3 different Nathan’s branded belts and have only experienced frustration with each one.
I tighten up all the loose ends on it so it’s tight to my body and can’t get caught in anything.
Preference for other brands over Nathan
Naked belt all the way. Works great with soft flasks
Ultra Aspire. Can’t recommend this piece of gear enough.
[Fitletic](https://a.co/d/inGV50E) been using these since 2014.
It’s a great belt that rides really well for me at all paces - I’ve used it for tempo efforts, marathons, and 100k events (I actually wore it at the Umstead and Pinhoti 100’s as well).
