Snoop's Take

The PETZL CORAX is a comfortable and fully adjustable harness designed for both gym and outdoor climbing. With features like dual buckle waist adjustment and multiple gear loops, it caters to a variety of climbing needs while ensuring a secure fit. Consumers have praised the PETZL CORAX for its comfort during climbs, with many noting, "I really like it because I suck at climbing and sitting in it is comfortable." The harness is especially favored for its good padding and adjustability, making it a preferred choice among climbers transitioning from other brands. However, some users have reported discomfort during specific movements and issues with fitting over larger hips, indicating that it may not suit every climber’s needs. Overall, the PETZL CORAX is recommended for climbers seeking a reliable and comfortable harness for a range of activities, but potential users should consider trying it on to ensure the right fit for their body type and climbing style.

It’s a lot more comfortable, has a haul loop, and it’s purple! If you’re just using it for top roping in the gym, no harm going with the black diamond.

Positive Feedback

It becomes extremely uncomfortable when I need to clear the anchor. My waist hurts a lot using it.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Comfortable harness for gym use
It’s a lot more comfortable, has a haul loop, and it’s purple! If you’re just using it for top roping in the gym, no harm going with the black diamond.
I'm struggling with the sizes on the charts.
Designed for sport climbing
It's designed for sport climbing. I use it for trad but I prefer a gear sling and just use the gear loops for draws, so it works for me.
Comfort and fit are the most important things, so I wouldn't buy online unless you're able to return it if you don't find it comfortable!.
Comfortable padding and good adjustability
Very comfy padding, five gear loops for your outdoor adventures, and good adjustability on all the straps.
I’m on my second Luna now, love it so much.
Preferred over other brands
i went from the momentum to the petzl corax! i like it a lot.
Comfortable harness for sitting during climbs
I really like it because I suck at climbing and sitting in it is comfortable.
Long-lasting and reliable choice
no regrets
Preferred choice among climbers over other brands
If the price is similar I'd go with the Petzl, no doubts
Good padding for comfort
New harness choice - Petzl Corax or Adjama or Edelrid Jay III
Comfortable harness for climbing
If you want more comfort and don’t mind extra bulk (not to mention 2 more gear loops) then go for the AVEN.
Good adjustability for fit
if the regular one is comfy, go with it and don't feel bad.
It stays in place while I climb, it's comfortable to sit in, and I can flip upside-down in it and it doesn't budge.
My legs were going numb while trying to project routes and hanging.
Comfortable harness for gym climbing
But like Black diamond momentum 3S vs just the regular BD momentums? What does the 3S stand for? What am i looking for in harness differences? Any personal recommendations?
im not sure the difference but if youre just gonna be in the gym it doest matter. get one that fits and feels comfy.
Comfortable for gym climbing
strongly considering the jay, but would love input from yall as to which is most comfortable
I love my Adjama. Primarily gym climbing due to living in Florida but when outdoors doing trad is where the harness shines.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Uncomfortable during certain movements
It becomes extremely uncomfortable when I need to clear the anchor. My waist hurts a lot using it.
Difficulty fitting over larger hips
getting it on is incredibly difficult to get over my hips and even once it is on, it's loose in the waist even when totally cinched down.
Insufficient gear loops for technical mountaineering
For technical mountaineering (ice walls and crevasse rescue), I find the 2 gear loops insufficient.
Not suitable for catching falls in ice climbing
You don't want to be leading ice in a mountaineering harness, they aren't made for catching lead falls.
Comfort may be irrelevant for certain mountaineering situations
In terms of crevasses there's rescue and training. For a rescue the comfort of the harness is irrelevant.
Leg loop webbing slip issue reported
Almost all the reports have been about leg loop buckles.
I had a leg loop on my super avanti come completely undone while climbing out of a very wet cave.
Reports of leg loop slippage issues
Especially on the leg loops, and yes I have personally encountered this.
Leg loops and rear straps loosen during use
Petzl astro straps constantly loosening
It just seems like every Petzl RA harness since the Navaho has been a step backward.
I think it's a pretty known issue, if you're not happy with the product I'd reach out to whoever you bought it from or to Petzl directly.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Personal preferences on harness features vary
If you want to be able to open the leg loops completely I’d go for the Aquila.
Discussion about harness comfort and fit
If you plan to do a lot of rope climbing, taking lead falls, or hangdogging or belaying a partner who is hanging a lot, make sure you are comfortable sitting fully weighted in the harness.
Just buy the cheapest harness from a reputable manufacturer that fits you comfortably.
Discussion about tying methods for the harness
Hello climbing girls 👋
You tie it using a Figure-8 follow through.
Other people have already said this is a regular figure 8.
Tip: make sure to use a carabiner meant for tri-loading if you belay with a full body harness.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Users resort to makeshift solutions for strap issues
When I had to use that harness I would just electrical tape the straps.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Fit dependent; personal preference varies
I’ve tried more harnesses than anyone I know; here are some notes on how some of them compare.
You can look up any harness here and see the waist and leg measurements for all sizes.
Try and get the same or very similar to your rental harness as you're already familiar and comfortable in that.
I would recommend the Black Diamond Technican harness, the legs are very adjustable.
Discussion about trying different brands and sizes
Find one that's for you detachable leg straps are absolutely wonderful for not having to take the whole harness off.
I love my Misty Mountain harness, probably the best harness I've owned and my only regret is that I waited so long to get it and it wasn't much more than what I had previously paid for Petzl.
Discussion about the nature of intermediate harnesses
a more intermediate harness isnt really a thing tbh. its not like shoes, a harness is basically a harness.
Personal experiences with different harness brands
even if you get the most expensive harness on the market, you spend almost nothing per-pitch on your harness compared to shoes, rope, gas, gym membership, camping, etc.
I used an Adjama for about 4-5 years and it was an awesome harness
All Edelrid harnesses I've tried so far have fit incredible awkward on me but other people love them.
Discussion about price sensitivity and brand preference
Choosing a climbing harness: Petzl or Decathlon? If we’re just looking at the brand, shouldn't we just go straight for Petzl?
Mention of competitor pricing and options
MadRock has harnesses on sale for $30 right now.
Discussion on needing different harnesses for different activities
Get a skimo harness and one for the gym. Don’t worry about number of gear loops or haul loops, go for something you can hang in.
Get a mountaineering harness and a climbing harness. It's not that much more expensive and makes a big difference.
Discussion about the availability of harnesses for pets
Small dog harnesses instead of cat specific harnesses? I was wondering if anyone had any experience with using harnesses for small dogs rather than harnesses for cats, and if so, if you would share your experiences and thoughts on it? ☺️
Can you look online more? The best harness I’ve used is from supakit and is available online. I’ve also tried butterfly cat jackets and surfercat. Both of those are great too but supakit is by far my fave!
Try Supakit harnesses, or Travel cat has some good ones too. It'll depend on your cats' comfort level in different styles
They are heavy for cats neck.
Comparison of various harness brands
these harnesses are great and you probably won't feel compelled to get another harness until they need replacement, no matter how much you advance or what type of climbing you get into.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns about older harness models
since this harness would be for life support I don't really want to trust it down on a single rope.
I was pretty sure I had heard the orange Petzl harnesses were death but didn’t want to spread wrong information.
Discussion about safety and risk management
It’s not a death sentence, as long as you’re aware of the issue then you can mitigate risk.
Lack of detailed information on safety issues
Are there any other posts or videos explaining or demonstrating this issue?
Petzl has been responsive to feedback regarding product issues
Petzl will send your company a bag of the clips those harnesses are missing for free if you let them know.
