Going to the dr today to see just how bad. It’s been two days and noise kinda hums in my ear and it feel like it’s blocked.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Effective for sensory overload
For a HSP who has panic attacks in loud environments, this is a LIFESAVER.
I’m glad you found something that works for you! I hope that they will serve you well :)
Noise cancellation during gunshots
The newer active noise canceling are great. Gunshots are muffled well with the added bonus of mic pick up so you can easily talk to the person next to you and if you dont want to listen to them just turn the volume all the way down.
Comfortable ear pads for extended wear
Got gel pads for my walkers and they are a night and day difference. Honestly a must buy.
Switched them out to prohear gel pads and the sunglasses/eyeglasses relief cutouts and the gel padding alleviated all my discomfort at the range and work.
I got the Amazon special and it was a massive quality of life upgrade.
Quality of life upgrade
I’d love Bluetooth capabilities to listen to music while using them but I’m first and foremost looking for ear protection.
Comfortable for extended wear
Preferably, they would be fairly comfortable if I need to wear them for a couple hours.
Peltor muffs, and when yogurt them, stretch them out on something overnight so they dont crush your head with pressure (for comfort over long hours)
Effective noise cancellation
they help but he says they kinda pressurize and are tight.

Ineffective electronic ear protection

NRR is not a straight decibel reduction. Sound pressure level for environmental conditions is measured A weighted, not C weighted.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Electronic ear protection works differently than noise-canceling headphones
Electronic ear pro actually work kinda the opposite way of noise-cancelling headphones.
Comparison of gel pads with other brands
Do the Prohear gel pads help with this or should I look at something else all together?
Comparison of materials and performance
They work very well.
Discussion on alternatives for better sound quality
They’re also about the only thing I can keep using when I put on a full-face respirator.
For very loud environments, I use airpods (noise-cancelling) under 3M 30dB earmuffs.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on alternatives like gel cups for comfort
the HY80 on and they're much more comfortable than the foam cushions the Peltors come with.
Mention of using muffs in a convenient position for quick access
I leave muffs perched over my ears (like in my hair) so that I can quickly pop them down and over my ears if something catches my attention.

Recommendations for using foam plugs with muffs
Double up is your best bet for indoor ranges.
Discussion on eye protection relief cut
Would you say that the primary benefit is the eye protection relief cut?
Debate between earmuff brands
Thanks for all the help on hearing pro PROHEAR 036 Digital Electronic Shooting Ear Protection Patriot Sound Amplification Earmuffs, 23dB NRR Low Profile Noise Reduction Hearing Protection for Gun Range and Hunting, Black
This sub helped me pick my peltors too. Damn good choice.
Need to double up with plugs when using electronic muffs indoors
If you are using electronic muffs at an indoor range you need to double up with plugs too.
Advice to double up on ear protection for indoor ranges.
Best ear protection for indoor range? Folks I only started shooting regularly and became a member of
For indoors I always double up. Just muffs alone aren’t really enough, even the really bulky ones.
OP listen to this and double up. It is so much more comfortable for shooting indoors.
Wow... I thought it was just me. In-ear "plugs" plus Peltor "cans" over them.
Preference for electronic muffs over regular buds for hunting
most of the time you have a seconds reaction to shoot at a moving deer so it really isn't viable to hang regular buds on my neck and hope to get them in and make my shot.
I use the Walker Razor muffs and I love them. You get a crisp sound with adjustable volume, but when you shoot it completely cuts out the sound.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Gun safety education is appreciated in discussions
this is incredibly helpful and you have helped me learn about gun safety and my ears will be protected.
Personal experiences with ear protection from a marine engineer
I've tried most of the major US earmuff brands, but they all become extremely painful to wear with half an hour at most.
Muff protection preferred for excessive noise
my ears are happy.
I just throw my over ear muffs on and that’s worked well for me.
noise canceling is excellent (my shop has concrete walls so I need it,) sound quality is fine.
Gel cups may reduce protection but increase comfort
the gel cups actually are a bit less protective. But for home use, they may work just fine.
Concerns about pressure on jaw from certain earmuffs
there was too much pressure on my jaw
Foam earplugs offer higher noise reduction than muffs
Foam earplugs are going to offer the highest noise reduction, running in the 31-33NRR range.
Valved earplugs react too slowly for gunshot noise protection
Valved earplugs offer the ability to hear normal conversations but offer lower NRR, ranging from like 19-25NRR.
Yes. At least the ones marketed for shooting or military, they use a diaphragm to close the valve.
Discussion on different types of ear protection
Ear protection? Axil gs was recommended by a friend. I like the loop wire you can wear them around your neck.
Foam in the ears with Walker digital muffs over the ears, works well.
Either go with the disposable plugs and muffs over them, or if you wanna be bougie like me, get surefire plugs and run electronic muffs over top.
Concerns about wind noise affecting sound direction in hunting
I think they’d be perfect for what you’re going to use them for.
Discussion about the use of silencers for hearing protection
Time for a silencer. If it’s legal in your state, it’s worth the investment.
