I do not want to be all layered up inside the bag, but will want to be in a pair of long johns and a long sleeve t-shirt, and be comfortable in the bag.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on sleeping bag temperature ratings and comfort levels
I do not want to be all layered up inside the bag, but will want to be in a pair of long johns and a long sleeve t-shirt, and be comfortable in the bag.
You'll want to overshoot it by probably 10-15*, depending on how 'hot' you sleep.
Very informative!
The same exact 30F rated bag was comfortable for me in freezing weather when I was hitting the gym every day, but too cold now when it gets to 40F.
Discussion on sleeping bag temperature ratings and comfort levels.
REI makes a nice kids' bag - I got mine on sale last year, but looks like the regular price is around $70.
Kelty has a 20 degree kids bag for about $60.
Discussion on sleeping pad insulation importance
My sleeping pad is pretty cheap and I definitely need to invest in one with an R value of 5 or higher for the colder temps ahead.
Are you using any kind of mat under your sleeping bag?
The good news is that sleeping pad insulation is additive, meaning if you get another and layer it with the one you’ve got now, their r-values combine, and you end up with an even better insulation system overall.
A good sleeping pad helps more than you realize until you own one.

Discussion on lightweight sleeping options for backpacking.
Sleeping pads? I’m just getting into backpacking and want to ask what sleeping pads people recommend.
It’s important to remember that every ounce matters - until you can’t sleep because you’re cold or uncomfortable, in which case you wish you had hauled a mattress and box springs out into the wilderness with you.
I loved the Nemo Punk sleeping bags bevause they have the cinching which means it can grow with them a little bit.
Don't get kids bags, just get regular adult bags, and if you need to fill up the space for insulation reasons, just stuff a blanket in the bottom.
Discussion on alternatives for wearable sleeping bags for adults.
Yeah, there's wearable sleeping bags like https://www.mec.ca/en/product/6015-165/lite-wearable-sleeping-bag?colour=Foggy+Blue&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8e-gBhD0ARIsAJiDsaVmz1AUiEBm5tQ3tBZYBXCYuOB_MdTRFOfbwFaaYKRN0ByTwTTITmAaAkmfEALw_wcB
If you want something like that as an adult you can always buy an East German Army sleeping bag.

Discussion on washing techniques for sleeping bags
I don't have down, just polyester but I want to know what's the safest way to wash them.
I ... I ... I d... I don't.....
Flip it halfway through its tanning session and it gets sun cleaned.
So my question is, what is the best value compression sack I can buy to keep the bag stored in during backpack trips?
Discussion about the need for adult-sized sleeping bags similar to children's versions.
Do they make adult sized versions of these
They actually just came out with adult sizes last month
Suggestions for keeping warm in sleeping bags
How about a hot water bottle in the bottom of your bag
Get one of those mylar space blankets and put it under your sleeping pad. Should reflect back your body heat.
I was just at freezing late last week and totally warm in my 0° bag in just a pair of thermals!
Even if you sleep on your side it'll make a huge difference.
Effectiveness of different sleeping pad types
Wait, are inflatable pads useless for the winter? I was under the impression they work relatively well, and they're just filled with air, but maybe I've been mistaken this whole time.
Yes, inflatable pads without insulation are useless in cooler weather. You really, really need something underneath to isolate you from the ground.
I would definitely expect that reducing gradient heat would help somewhat. An insulated sleeping pad would help more - but at the very least you're removing one source of heat loss.
General advice for cold weather camping
A breakdown cot is wonderful plus a more insiluted sleeping bag and tight thermal leggins if you can't do those just yet
That's good to know, I'll grab closed cell foam or something of that nature with an appropriate R value if I ever go on a cooler weather trip, thanks.
Discussion on keeping pets comfortable while camping
Hammock camping with dog? I’m dreaming about summer and camping trips again but since I’ve adopted a dog since last summer I’m preparing for it to look a little different this upcoming season.
The big challenge is not getting the dog comfy enough to fall asleep, but what happens if they stand up and scratch and itch or turn around, and happen to punch a claw through the hammock wall or even just punch a foot through.
I hang my tarp low to the ground so the sides protect him from wind. I got an extra thick foam mat, cut it to his size.
My pup will sleep nice and cozy, just make sure you have insulation in the ground for them just like you would yourself!
