Snoop's Take

The RoyalBaby Freestyle Kids Bike is a 16-inch BMX-style bicycle designed for children aged 4 to 7, featuring training wheels and a kickstand. This bike is crafted to inspire fun and creativity in young riders, making it ideal for beginners learning to pedal and balance. Consumer feedback highlights both the ease of assembly and the bike's suitability for learning to ride, with one user noting, "it fit perfectly for my 4yo to actually pedal." However, some concerns have been raised regarding manufacturing tolerances and weight, with users mentioning that many kids' bikes are heavy and clunky, stating, "they are super heavy clunkers that are made with the cheapest components possible." Overall, the bike's design and features make it a good choice for budget-conscious families, despite some quality control issues. Based on the feedback, the RoyalBaby Freestyle Kids Bike is generally recommended for its category, particularly for families looking for a fun and safe learning experience for their children, while being mindful of potential assembly challenges and weight considerations.

servicing them is really easy and a pair of new bearings is dirt cheap.

Wow, yeah, I wouldn't put my progeny on a bike built like that.
Depending on how much you want to mess around with this wheel vs returning it, you could replace the nuts that are resting on the dropouts with cone lock nuts which are about half the thickness of the nuts that are currently on the axle.
The BB was not screwed in properly and was misaligned.
Many kids bikes are heavy and stiff
Unfortunately many kids bikes are made of cheap, heavy and stiff materials.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Preference for high-quality brands for better performance
My son is doing awesome on a guardian bike.
Concerns about weight of kids' bikes
Greatly regret putting my little girl on something that was hard to ride and not as much fun.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
High-quality bikes are often expensive
Prevalo, Cleary, and Woom are the undisputed 3 greats of lightweight high end first pedal bikes.
Seconding Woom! Also adding that balance bike or pedals off is a better start than training wheels.
My 4 and 5.5 year olds learned to ride in 2 weekends using guardian bikes.
Looking to buy her a pedal bike for her 4th birthday, but $250 for a bike seems steep.
Trying second-hand bikes is a good option
See if you can get a second hand.
Balance bikes may be better than training wheels for learning
Don't do training wheels. It's a bad choice. Balancing is the hard part, which training wheels don't
Don't skip the balance bike. It's the important part of bike riding.
Parents suggest avoiding training wheels to prevent bad habits
They teach the easy thing (pedaling) and don't allow practice of the hard thing (balancing).
I feel like most people leave them on way too long.
Used bikes can be a good option
A used one in good condition is still going to be better than the crap you get at the big box stores.
On any day, my local craigslist has 15-20 kids' bikes that are shop-level quality for less than a new Wally-world kids bike.
Higher quality bikes hold their value well
If she's good on the balance bike, 100% go for it.
Comparison to local bike shop options
There is nothing special about them.
Concerns about growth spurts affecting bike usability
I don't think you are going to find something that will last "years" as she's probably going to hit a growth spurt and grown out of whatever bike you get here.
Concerns about proper usage of bike features
Kid using a bike escalator in Norway to get up a hill
Is that actually how it’s suppose to be used?
Recommendations for used bikes
We mostly ride recreationally but we're looking to get into longer bike trails next summer.
She'll always be able to cruise it around the neighborhood, and I'm not putting good money into a bike until she stops growing so fast.
Sizing considerations for kids' bikes
She tried a 24 in and could not touch her toes while seat was at lowest position.
