Snoop's Take

The SanDisk 256GB Extreme SDXC UHS-I Memory Card is engineered for high-speed storage and transfer, offering rapid offload speeds that cater to both photography and videography enthusiasts. It stands out with its impressive performance metrics, though user chatter is far from unanimous – one reviewer exclaims, “I can’t recommend them enough,” while others gripe about the risk of counterfeit cards and steep pricing. Overall, despite the niggling concerns about fakes and physical design quirks, the card is recommended for professionals who demand robust, high-speed performance in demanding shooting environments. At its core, this SDXC card is built to support high-resolution photography and continuous 4K video capture with ease. Consumers are largely impressed by its consistent performance, with many staunchly defending SanDisk’s reliability, as one user noted, “In 20+ years professional work I never had a problem with SanDisk.” Yet, there’s a sardonic undercurrent to the feedback – cost and potential counterfeit risks on platforms like Amazon routinely raise eyebrows. This blend of high praise and pointed critique captures the community’s mixed but informed sentiment. In conclusion, if you’re a professional in need of a fast and reliable memory card for photography or videography, this SanDisk 256GB Extreme SDXC is a strong contender. However, it comes with a caveat: exercise caution when purchasing, especially from third-party sellers, to avoid the counterfeit pitfalls that some users have lamented.

I'll consider just buying more SanDisks to rotate out with.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Reliable SanDisk performance in photography work
I'll consider just buying more SanDisks to rotate out with.
all of our own brand cards were made by SanDisk.
I've used SanDisk Extreme Pro SD cards and so far haven't had problems.
I have only used SanDisk and haven't had any problems with them.
Reliable SanDisk performance and warranty
i use the regular san disk and never had a problem with it
The lifetime warranty being a thing for them meanwhile the ultras is 10 years.
After that I switched to SanDisk completely and never had issues.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
High cost not justified for limited use
They look nice but for something you’ll very rarely ever see it’s not worth they extra price lol
They’re really cool, but not worth the $$
I wish they wouldn't do this, looks like I'm buying an overpriced Gengar SDcard.
Another thing to waste your money on.. after you buy this you put it in a device and don't look at it again for awhile.
Risk of receiving counterfeit SanDisk cards on Amazon
I must say it looked legit. The packaging was exactly as you would expect from a SanDisk product.
Unless it's shipping directly from the manufacturer, Amazon is a complete lottery on this type of stuff.
I ordered from somewhere I could trust in NZ and paid the premium for it and worked out wonderfully.
Hasn’t happened to me but I’ve heard horror stories from Amazon purchases.
Potential reliability and quality issues with SanDisk cards
I’ve either had terrible luck or the cards are trash.
Any brand can fail.
Most of the time the card would physically break, either it would separate or the ribs between the contacts would break and damage card slots.
Risk of counterfeit cards
I would make absolutely certain that both the packaging you recieved, and the labels on the cards themselves match EXACTLY what you see on the Sandisk site.
Out of all major brands, I'd think SanDisk is the one with most counterfeited cards being sold.
SD card sticking issues in device slots
Every single one of these cards "sticks" in the SD card slot.
i shit myself and had to use tweezers to remove.
mine have never given me issues.
Weak physical lock design compromising durability
actually the lock that nobody needs broke off my sandisk SD, rendering the card useless.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Explaining SD card specifications and class ratings
You can see most brands just put the speeds right on the cards (though that’s also advertisement and doesn’t always indicate the speed you’ll get under every circumstance and is often a read speed.)
Sometimes if a card isn’t fast enough it can’t keep up with what you’re recording.
Wouldn't Sony do this to confirm compatibility for *older* hardware?
So why all the different ratings? Why hasn’t V-rating, since it is the latest, just replaced all the others?
Discussion on SD card specification and rating standards
What's up with SD card specifications?
They’re the speed limit while your SD card is the car engine.
But if UHS-I has a speed limit of 104MB/s how come the card can have "up to" 170MB/s reads?
SanDisk and a few others sell card readers that violate the UHS-1 spec and allow faster than 100mbyte\s reads.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Comparing SanDisk Extreme series micro SD cards for Steam Deck use
SanDisk Extreme vs Extreme pro, which is the better micro sd card for the steam deck ? No text conte
Just a small reminder, before any sd cars purchase; dont buy slower read/write speed than decks. It is crucial.
The Extreme (also red/gold) does 160 MB/s read, 90 MB/s write.
Could I still use the extreme with 160 MB/s read even if it tops the 100 MB/s read speed of the steam deck?

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Historical SD card pricing and capacity evolution
Is there a smartphone that supports this card?
the **largest capacity SD (Secure Digital) flash card yet available**, the new **128 MB** piece is expected to be priced at around $200.
$100 everywhere in the us I've seen
Price is about $80 now.
Card safety incident causing device damage
I smelled the magic smoke. Touched it barely with my finger and it was massively hot.
Holy hell. I came here thinking it was an obvious fake, but it not only looks legit but caught on fire.
Mixed experiences with various memory card brands
I've used Lexar, Sandisk, and Kingston with absolutely zero issues.
Ironic. The only card failure that cost me shots was a Sandisk.
Interesting. I have nothing but Transcend cards and I've never had a single issue.
What you're paying for is the *likelihood* of failure.
SanDisk SD reader performance limitations despite UHS-II labeling
I can't understand why.
If you want speed you are better off getting a real V60 or V90 card rather than a V30 card that claims faster speeds with a massive catch!
Only a handful of card readers support the off-spec, greater than 100mbyte speeds listed in many cards.
It's advertised for up to 200MB/s with proprietary (SanDisk) software, but have never tried it myself.
