Snoop's Take

Sensodyne Rapid Relief Sensitive Toothpaste is a specialized oral care product designed to relieve sensitive teeth while also offering cavity prevention. It works by creating a protective barrier over exposed dentin, thus helping to shield nerves from trigger sensations like cold and heat. Drawing from community feedback, users appreciate its effectiveness in reducing sensitivity, with one reviewer noting, “Sensodyne works well,” while others highlight its consistent recommendation by dental professionals. However, mixed opinions emerge regarding its formulation changes and taste, making its appeal somewhat divisive. In conclusion, while Sensodyne Rapid Relief offers targeted relief for sensitive teeth and satisfies many users, the ongoing debate over formula adjustments suggests that it remains best suited for those with sensitivity issues who are willing to overlook potential drawbacks in taste and texture.

Another bonus - it doesn’t make orange juice taste bad!
Has helped with sensitivity in the past
I have used sensodyne for years and it has helped.

it hurts a LOT when I put it directly on my teeth, even worse than hot/cold drinks.
Confusion about active ingredients
IIRC Novamin is only in certain Sensodyne toothpastes (specifically the Repair and Protect line) and only in Europe.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about changes in toothpaste formula
I would think that would be on the box to let you know.
Discussion about specific ingredients for sensitivity
I think that this is a case of where I'd listen to what your dentist and doctor say and use exactly what they recommend.
Discussion about sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and alternatives
I've noticed that I get fewer mouth sores now that I've switched to a toothpaste without sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS).
Just trying to find relief and comfort until my next appointment in a month.
Discussion on anti-sensitivity ingredients in toothpaste
I have had people switch to this one that tell me the difference in their sensitivity is night and day.
Discussion about ingredient effectiveness
It’s like clear coat nail polish, it seals everything up.
Originally designed to repair shattered bones of soldiers, it was adopted for use in toothpaste.
Thanks for the research to verify/debunk the myth. 👍
Discussion about flavors in toothpaste
Is there any sensodyne or enamel-building toothpaste that isn't mint flavored?
I would rather not have anything strong like mint or cinnamon.
Some toothpastes have gentler flavors then other so it might mean you get your hands on some sensodyne samples of different flavors and try them out.
You could try a kids' toothpaste with stannous fluoride which also helps prevent sensitivity. 3M E
Differences between types of Sensodyne toothpaste are mostly marketing
What are the differences between these types of Sensodyne Toothpaste? There are four types at my local pharmacy and I bought one of each... what is the difference, exactly?
Honestly, not a whole lot- a lot of it is marketing.
Relative dentin abrasiveness varies among different Sensodyne pastes
But the biggest difference is the relative dentin abrasiveness of the paste.
Discussion on the importance of active ingredients
Most are correct in that Potassium Nitrate is the most common active ingredient but Stannous Fluoride is also used by some.

Recommendations for specific ingredients to look for
Its not an overnight fix, but a couple of months of using it really improved my situation.
Novamin, or calcium sodium phosphosilicate, remineralizes your teeth.
Recommendations for alternative toothpaste products
Biotene paste or wet toothbrush followed by Biotene mouthwash.
Closys is great for anyone sensitive to sulfate and has a really good mouthwash.
I use biotene toothpaste.
If you’re experiencing a significant increase in sensitivity, you need to see a dentist.
Discussion about seeking dental advice
my teeth are literally aching right now.
But for an experiment try switching back to your old toothpaste and see if it fixes everything.
Discussion about alternative brands due to boycott
i’m looking for toothpastes that are not from brands on the boycott list and so far, i have had no luck finding any other brand in stores besides crest/colgate and sensodyne.
Recommendations for alternative sensitivity toothpaste
I have had great luck with Clinpro 5000 for my sensitivity.
Discussion about vegan alternatives to Sensodyne
every time I go longer than a week without using it my teeth get so sensitive that cold water hurts to drink.
https://www.crueltyfreekitty.com/brands/sensodyne/
I ended up trying Tom’s of Maine (not for sensitive teeth) and thankfully have been fine so far.
Discussion about alternatives to Sensodyne toothpaste
I absolutely love Sensodyne toothpaste. I have extremely sensitive teeth and have been unable to find another product that improves my oral health the way Sensodyne has!
I really like the low(er) carbon footprint they have.
They are vegan, GF, recyclable containers and such.
Discussion about switching to other brands
BAM! All of a sudden, I have severe tooth sensitivity.
Alternatives to Sensodyne recommended
I prefer it over sensodyne, even tho the paradontax doesn’t taste all that good, it does a good job.
You just want the ingredient potassium nitrate for sensitivity relief.
Comparison with other brands
Hmm, it looks like other toothpastes I've used had sodium lauryl sulfate, and I've never had an issue.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns about fluoride content in alternative toothpastes
Does bite have flouride though? Last I looked into them they didn't.
Debate on the science behind sensitivity relief
And yes, please stop licking our fingers when we work in your mouth 😂
I know this is accepted science....... BUT.....
Concerns and questions about fluoride and enamel
why is fluoride so important, and how does enamel-building toothpaste work?
i dont get why "enamel is lost forever" (or what is cavitation?)
High visibility and marketing presence
You go to the bathroom you find sensodyne, you go to the bedrooms you find it. It's starting to hunt my life!
