Snoop's Take

The STANLEY S1007 Black/Yellow Ratchet Tie Down Straps are designed to securely fasten cargo with a safe working load limit of 1,100 lbs and a break strength of 3,300 lbs. These durable straps feature vinyl-coated J-hooks and an ergonomic ratcheting component, making them ideal for various applications including automotive and DIY tasks. Consumer feedback highlights the straps' versatility and effectiveness, with many users praising their ease of use in tight spaces. "It is awesome for working in tight spaces," one user remarked, while another noted their satisfaction with the overall quality, stating, "I have always liked Stanley hand tools, I have only ever had one problem that was honestly entirely my fault." However, some concerns were raised regarding quality control, with a few users experiencing issues with breakage and the reliability of the ratchet mechanism. Overall, the STANLEY S1007 Ratchet Tie Down Straps are recommended for those seeking reliable and affordable tie-down solutions, particularly for home DIY projects and light-duty applications, despite some mixed reviews about quality consistency.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Versatile for tight spaces
the most useful part about this design is the 90, for deep, narrow spaces

It is awesome for working in tight spaces
it is a terrible ratchet, the weight of the socket causes the head to spin when you are trying to get it on a nut or bolt
More leverage compared to traditional ratchets
they break often but I'll never go back to a regular ratchet
Once started, this tool speeds up removal as well as putting them back on during reassembly.
You can use it to 'break' the bolt. Doesn't work so great with very rusted threads though.
Handy for breaking loose stuck bolts
This is the way.
It's super handy.
Useful tool for various tasks
Stanley ratchet rotator
It doesn't suck at all. I do a ton of work on cars and this is one of my favorite ratchets.
I've had one for about 10 years, it's my go-to ratchet handle for most work.
I've had one of these for 10 years, you still have to break things loose the old fashioned way with it, but the rotating feature is fantastic for getting nuts off after, or getting things mostly threaded.
Rotating feature is advantageous for threading nuts
the rotating feature is fantastic for getting nuts off after, or getting things mostly threaded.
Effective for various DIY tasks
I used this same ratchet to change my clutch, starter, ac compressor, power steering pump and it’s still working.
Warranty process is straightforward
I have a couple of ratchets and they're usable, but would be next to last choice, last being old craftsman.
Good value for budget tools
Even cheap tools have a place in this world.
I think these would be great in anyone's home arsenal.
Good customer service for replacements
I am impressed at how painless the experience has been to deal with their warranty and support.
Try taking the ratchet apart. It might just need some grease.
Affordable compared to competitors
They’re not the coolest trendsetters, but at least they’re noticeably less expensive.
Good overall experience with Stanley tools
I have always liked Stanley hand tools, I have only ever had one problem that was honestly entirely my fault.
Great initial quality and feel
I just got a set and they look and feel great, can't wait to use them.
Good for first-time tool buyers
Nothing wrong with them for a first time tool buyer.
I started with Stanley tools and still have most of them in good condition after years of use.
Stanley Fatmax tapes are highly regarded
Stanley Fatmax tapes are some of the best on the market.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Poor quality control leading to unreliable ratchets
My ratchets let me down in the middle of working on things all the time since the selector switch slips and gets jammed.
the ratchets are junk, they fall out of gear all the time which is super annoying.
Difficulty with warranty claims
the Stanley is gonna be a pain in the ass to warranty, the Maximum you can just exchange in store.
Overall decline in Stanley's product quality
Stanley used to mean quality. Not so much anymore.
Frequent breakage under higher torque
It did last me a few months but I definitely sheared whatever mechanism was used in the handle
I think I spend $20-40 on all the ones I've owned, no wonder they break
Quality perceived as declining
I find them to be of generally equal quality.
Lacks leverage for loosening tight bolts
This has no leverage so you couldn't undo a tightened bolt with the handle twist.
Space constraints in tool storage
There are definitely times it would be handy but are you going to buy a tool and keep it handy and go get it each of those times?
Quality concerns with Stanley products
I would buy Pittsburgh over stanley, simply for the fact that it is much easier to get a replacement in store.
The only socket I ever cracked was a Stanley.
Perceived decline in brand quality
Stanley is not that great of a brand, but they're fine for home DIY type stuff.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Preference for other brands
I have some Stanley extensions, which are fine.
They're becoming my favorite even though I have more expensive ratchets.
Discussions on budget and quality preferences
a lot of it comes down to budget.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Mixed experiences with Stanley products
They make good tools. Can the same be said for clothing etc?
Stanley tools seem to mostly fall in the middle ground.
They are as good as new for me.
They're definitely BIFL for my use.
Mixed experiences with Stanley tools, suggesting variability in product quality
Otherwise I’m moving up to a breaker bar or impact wrench for stubborn bolts instead of struggling with a smaller ratchet.
If you are only going to use it occasionally go with Stanley; although their ratchets are garbage, it will have most of the sockets that you’ll need.
Mixed experiences with Stanley tools
Never really had any probs with their screwdrivers, hammers, box cutters, etc., But I'm not about to line my box with their ratchets and socket sets.
You’re trying to tell me that if you double gripped you couldn’t get enough leverage to loosen a bolt?
Various opinions on tool usefulness
if the bolt is stick on tight, the design of the grip is basically useless.
I'm a mechanic and I agree.
Mixed feelings about tool effectiveness and usability
I feel this with my soul in 1/50th inch increments
That’s assuming you can get the right size. You try one size, too big. Next one down, too small. Switch to metric, doesn’t work either.
Discussion on brand acquisitions and their impact
Stanley Black and Decker acquired Proto and they make the Fatmax Tapes in the USA.
