Snoop's Take

The STANLEY S9500 Black/Yellow 1" x 10' Ratchet Straps are designed for securing light cargo with a working load of 300 lbs and a break strength of 900 lbs. These straps feature reinforced edging and a highly visible yellow color, making them ideal for emergency situations and various DIY projects. Consumer sentiments reflect a mix of appreciation for the product's practicality and some concerns about quality. Many users have noted, "Definitely keeping it on my car for emergencies," highlighting its usefulness in urgent scenarios. However, there are mentions of inconsistency in quality, with some users stating that "Stanley tools seem to mostly fall in the middle ground." Overall, these straps are regarded as decent for home use, particularly for those who may not require heavy-duty performance. In conclusion, while the STANLEY S9500 Ratchet Straps are recommended for light cargo and occasional use based on their ease and practical design, potential buyers should be aware of mixed quality feedback and consider their specific needs before purchasing.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Effective for emergency use
Definitely keeping it on my car for emergencies.
Convenient for DIY projects like brake changes
I love that idea. I could have used it last weekend when I did my brakes.
Better than using manufacturer tools
Perfect for that. I hate having to use whatever’s in the trunk from the manufacturer. PITA.
Lifetime warranty without the need for a receipt
Are other Stanley products good? Recently my Stanley ratchet broke and I discovered they have lifetime warranty and you don't even need a receipt.
Decent quality for home users
Maybe I have a soft spot for them because my dad always used them. They're definitely BIFL for my use.
Lifetime warranty for hand tools
Stanley mechanics tools have a lifetime warranty and hand tools have a 1 year.
Serviceable tool despite wobble
Question is, is the wobble so bad you haven't been able to tighten what you needed to? Or maybe, does it make it awkward to reach into cramped place?
Suitable for occasional use
If you are only going to use it occasionally go with Stanley; although their ratchets are garbage, it will have most of the sockets that you’ll need.
Useful for tight spaces
It looks like to me, the most useful part about this design is the 90, for deep, narrow spaces
I have a non Stanley version. It is hands down my favorite ratchet. You can use it as a traditional ratchet too. It it awesome for working in tight spaces.
Anything with Stanley, Black and Decker, etc is generally light-duty garbage.
Effective for breaking loose stuck bolts
It's a great tool. You can use it to 'break' the bolt.
Like /u/stowaway36 said after you get it loosened just a bit it actually works really well.
Versatile design allows for traditional and new use
Judging from the second half of the OP video - it looks the tool can be used both the normal way with leverage as well as the new way by twisting it?
Yep and they work really well. If your bolt is stuck, you’ll want a breaker bar to loosen it.
Helps in specific situations where hand tools fail
it is a terrible ratchet, the weight of the socket causes the head to spin when you are trying to get it on a nut or bolt, but a great specialty tool and I use them somewhat regularly for work (auto mechanic).
Having used this exact tool before, it is helpful in specific situations.
Useful for various tasks
Only warning I have is that if you have a extension and a socket on it and working under a car becareful the ratchet can spin and smack you in the face.
It doesn't suck at all. I do a ton of work on cars and this is one of my favorite ratchets.
I've had one of these for 10 years, you still have to break things loose the old fashioned way with it, but the rotating feature is fantastic for getting nuts off after, or getting things mostly threaded.
I've had one of these for 10 years, you still have to break things loose the old fashioned way with it, but the rotating feature is fantastic for getting nuts off after, or getting things mostly threaded.
Effective for DIY projects
I used this same ratchet to change my clutch, starter, ac compressor, power steering pump and it’s still working.
Lifetime warranty process is easy
Warranty worked for me with just a phone call to get it delivered in a week but that's table stakes.
Good quality for the price
Even cheap tools have a place in this world.
I think these would be great in anyone's home arsenal.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Not as good as previous tool deals
This used to be the best deal in tools.
Quality has diminished over time
Stanley is not what it used to be.
Stanley hand planes are rubbish compared to what they used to be.
Not suitable for heavy or professional use
Stanley tools seem to mostly fall in the middle ground.
Stanley ratchets have quality issues.
The Stanley ratchets always seemed to outperform my craftsman ones.
you really should be using a breaker bar for higher torque values.
Wobble may affect usability
Hello guys, I'm a newbie maintenance electrician (4th week) and have bought myself a ratching screwdriver.
I LOVE RATCHETING SCREWDRIVERS!! I have a crap ton.
Inconsistent quality control
Pretty sure theres smaller maximum sets too but not 100% certain.
It seems you have to go back to the last century to find consistent quality.
I've owned 2 and they've both had issues.
Ratchets frequently malfunction
I also have a Stanley set I keep in my truck and the ratchets are junk, they fall out of gear all the time which is super annoying.
Not effective on very rusted threads
Had the handle of this ratchet been the same hex handle, you could do the same thing.
Limited durability; breaks often
they break often but I'll never go back to a regular ratchet
It did last me a few months but I definitely sheared whatever mechanism was used in the handle.
Quality issues with Stanley tools
Stanley probably makes (some of) the Duralast junk anyway.
Limited leverage for loosening bolts
This has no leverage so you couldn't undo a tightened bolt with the handle twist.
Quality issues with Stanley products
I would buy Pittsburgh over stanley, simply for the fact that it is much easier to get a replacement in store.
The only socket I ever cracked was a Stanley.
I have some Stanley extensions, which are fine.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on proper tool usage.
I have yet to damage a ratchet or ratcheting wrench and I even hammer the handle sometimes.
Keeping older Craftsman but pretty much ALL replacement will be Tekton.
Preference for better brands over Stanley
The Stanley Black Chrome's are not good. The gun metal set has been the only passable ones from Stanley.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Variety of uses beyond initial expectations
I thought it was pretty gimmicky, but I just used it to change a tire, so I'm sold.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion on various ratchet brands and comparisons
I wasn't sure why I had not upgraded my wrench earlier.
In my opinion the ratchets are the only thing worth it from snap on, not THAT expensive, the rest of their pricing is ridiculous.
Here's what I've narrowed it down to so far.
The shaft does wobble slightly, but all the drivers on your list do have slight driver wobble.
Mixed opinions on Stanley's tools compared to others
Almost bought this Stanley Extendable Flexible Ratchet. How is Stanley for mechanic hand tools?
Preference for other brands like Harbor Freight
They're becoming my favorite even though I have more expensive ratchets.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on the effectiveness of various ratchet designs
Never really had any probs with their screwdrivers, hammers, box cutters, etc., But I'm not about to line my box with their ratchets and socket sets.
Plus if this was long enough, you could throw a vice grip on the end of this to get leverage.
It also holds the bits very well.
Experiences with using tools in general
You’re trying to tell me that if you double gripped you couldn’t get enough leverage to loosen a bolt? Damn I remember my first time using tools.
It’s super useful. I do all the work on all my cars and I reach for it all the time
Variety of experiences with tools
That’s assuming you can get the right size. You try one size, too big. Next one down, too small.
Flex-head ratcheting wrenches. They’re worth every penny.
Discussion on tool storage limitations
There are definitely times it would be handy but are you going to buy a tool and keep it handy and go get it each of those times?
Personal anecdotes about tool longevity
Yep same, I've had one for about 10 years, it's my go-to ratchet handle for most work.
