What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Helps with waste reduction
But it does help with reducing waste!
Are these popular tumbling composting bins worth it?
The salesman may not have known what he was talking about or was trying to get a quick sale, I guess.
Doesn't smell
I like that it doesn't smell.
Affordable price
Yes to everything including the price is right!
$25-30 is kind of the going rate for used compost bins.
Effective dual chamber for continuous composting
It’s nice because when one side is full I can add to the other side while the full side starts to decompose.
I think its a great way to get started in composting.
Dual-compartment tumblers like this one are built so you completely fill one side and then allow that to decompose.
I have not used tumbling composter before, so all opinions appreciated.
Low maintenance for beginners
It’ll be fine for figuring out if you want to make composting a part of your routine.
Great for figuring out composting routine
It's a hell of a lot better than the bucket system I'm currently using. Lol
Durable construction
It is a champ.
The best thing about this is you can put in as much or as little effort as you want.
Sturdy and spacious design
I’d go for the larger one, it’s bigger and sturdier.
Convenient and tidy composting solution
Are these way faster?
Tumbler is good for tidyness, stopping animals getting into it, and convenience.
Easy to turn
It's so easy to turn.
It turned out great but instructions left a lot to be figured out on one's own.
I also make more compost then most people.
Good build quality and design
Looking at yours I can say mine was absolutely more of a pain in the rear to use then yours with those nice rollers.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Difficult to achieve ready compost
Seems like they are a good option if you can't do other methods of composting but overall not the most ideal.
It was hard to remove compost from.
Get hot dang it!
Tumblers often don't heat up unless you're very exact about the input.
Can form balls of compost
it’s not terrible just a lil more time consuming than I’d like.
Vulnerable to pests
it really blew my mind how much those little fkrs chew.
Difficult to empty
I had a different kind and it was a pain in the rear to empty.
It didn’t compost very well and made composting more difficult.
Ineffective heat generation for hot composting
In my experiences with tumblers is that they don't get hot for hot composting.
Takes longer to heat up compost
Tumblers are my least favourite type of composter, I will always prefer ones that touch the ground.
Takes longer to produce compost compared to traditional methods
Takes about four months to create good compost.
The open pile without a doubt composted faster than the tumbler.
Vulnerable to wildlife damage
My tumblers are covered in teeth marks and/or claw marks. I feel like any day now they're going to break through.
Compost does not heat up well in tumbler
A compost tumbler is relatively small and doesn't heat up.
Difficulty in achieving ready compost
Do I just toss it, wash out the tumbler and start over? Will it be salvageable if I find enough browns to balance it somehow.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about air holes and aeration
This looks awesome and I'm interested in building one.
I figured I could always add them if needed if it doesn't break down to my liking.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Using compost accelerators can help
Mine goes pretty quick bc it’s in the sun, u could get compost accelerator to help.
Ideas for improving composting setup
Really cool! Have you thought about building a softer right below?

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Spinning mechanism is a common topic of discussion
Hahaha I thought I was the only one that thought that spinning it 🤝
Discussion about alternative composting methods
It looks like other, makes/models with dual chambers, tumble the whole thing.
Considerations for composting methods
Tumblers require sawdust or fine wood chip in my opinion, and the best way to get them started is to add about 1/4 of a full load of wood chip/saw dust before adding any food scraps.
If you have bears, it’s not going to work. I just have a plastic one and it works okay, I guess.
Discussion about composting techniques and materials
Kudos if there’s a super brown that you can get as cheap and easily as coffee grounds.
I’d often be practically steaming before I'd even put them in my heap.
I like leaving them where they were cut so maybe the grass will grow in thicker.
When it's time to harvest, plop the compost on any bare spots, add seed, and water the shit out of it.
Discussion about balancing compost with browns
Mix in more browns, store it in a pile well away from the house and aerate it every week or so till it smells okay.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
User experiences vary based on contents
Overall, I like having it, but need to work on layering, and fine tuning the greens/browns ratios.
I know compost takes months to break down, but so far I am only seeing very tiny bits getting into the second chamber.
I really want to not be so wasteful.
I’d rather have a slow breakdown, brown heavy pile than a stinky green heavy one.
Discussion about composting in different climates
Do I need to do anything different in the cold snowy months with big pile?
In the frozen winter I would not expect much decomposition unless you’ve got serious volume of high nitrogen stuff to deal with.
Experiences with local wildlife and composting
I'd embrace the local wildlife and just do the big wire circles or the 3 bin system or just a pile in the woods!
I just used a chicken wire to cage it all in.
Freezing impacts decomposition process
the compost has quite literally frozen into a solid mass, which makes turning the tumbler an interesting endeavor.
freezing is part of a decomposition process also, so even though it's probably frustrating, it's also helping break things down in a different way.
I’m still fairly new to all of this and am working on learning it now before we move to our property.
You’re kind of stymied till it melts, which may be faster than you think.
Discussion about countertop composters versus traditional methods
Countertop Electric Composters Is anyone using one of these gadgets? I have seen the Vitamix compost
$400 for a machine that makes dust and then another $120 per year, every year FOREVER for a microbial additive.
I have thought about all of this as well. And wondered if a dehydrator might be better. I live in So
It's not even compost that you get at the end of its cycle. Just dehydrated chopped kitchen scraps, IMO.
Humor regarding composting practices
Lol the visual of your husband trotting outside, opening the tumbler to pee in it is just hysterical.
