What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Durable and long-lasting
I have no complaints with the ones I’ve got, I just replaced the microfiber inserts with bamboo or hemp and care for them well
They lasted 3 babies for me and then were still in good enough condition to sell them.
I haven’t noticed a decrease in quality and haven’t encountered any issues when using them properly.
Alva’s haven’t decreased in quality and the price has barely increased in the same amount of time.
Good quality for the price
I found I preferred prefolds for the potato with chicken legs stage.
Effective as a diaper cover
Thoughts/opinions??
No need to cut the liner.
it’s always worked great.
Just because it has a pocket doesn’t mean you have to use it! I have used pockets with trifolded prefolds just fine.
Convenient to use without cutting liner
If you don't need to reuse it before washing, just use it without cutting out the liner.
Affordable when purchased directly from the brand's website
They also have bundle and save where you can buy 10, 20, 50, and 100 piece packs!
Effective for cloth diapering after newborn stage
The leg size matters more than the weight.
We cloth diapered from day 1 with Alvababy and didn’t have the newborn sizes.
Can use newborn hack to make them fit smaller babies
I really didn't want to because of all the reasons I wanted to cloth diaper to begin with, but as a FTM with PPA the thought of troubleshooting cloth diapers and having extra laundry to do in those first few weeks was overwhelming to me so going disposable for a while gave me a bit of relief.
Affordable option for diaper covers
Anyone have experience with these brands of covers, or prefer one over the other?
If thats not something you want to do, the alvababy ones aren’t terrible!
Alvababy is my absolute favorite with wegreeco as a close second!
Easy to use and effective
I really have no complaints so far about the use and quality, and am really shocked by how easy it has been for us.
You should do two wash cycles but if this is working right now then don’t worry too much about it.
Good quality and performance
Once you start doing night diapers I'd prewash every day.
Easy to use
I only use Alvababy pockets, I like how easy they are and our first child is almost 2.
Convenient addition to diaper collection
Having this pack of diapers to fill out my collection has actually been a godsend actually.
Effective for older babies
We started using Alva pockets around 12 weeks and have had good success with them!
I love sharing is the “newborn hack” for getting the Alva to fit a tiny new baby;
Good quality and effective diaper cover
Cloth diapers too small for my almost 1 year old.
Your baby is on the verge of a physical transformation and might be fine in those diapers soon.
Adjustable fit for growing babies
Can you post some photos for a fit check?
Water-resistant but not fully waterproof
it's important to remember that they're not waterPROOF just water resistant
most things I can find about "fabric coated with TPU" lists it as water-resistant because it is still "breathable."
Effective with the right liners
2 hemp or 2 bamboo liners is enough to hold him during the day.
Quality inserts recommended for use
Depends on what your inserts are made of! That looks like microfiber, which isn’t good directly against skin.
Effective when paired with proper inserts
I have my 11 lb 5 week old in an Alva now. It is honestly huge.
Convenient for larger babies
if anything they'd be good for hip development. If you look as how a newborn should sit in a carrier or how a hip dysplasia brace holds their legs it's out wide.
Easy to put on and soft on baby's skin
They’re easy to put on, are soft on baby’s skin, and right now they’re fitting my little guy well.
Good fit for longer waisted babies
i like them for the high rise as well! idk if my son has a long waist/crotch, or i'm just used to them, but by comparison other covers feel really short.
Effective performance compared to higher-end brands
they work as well as my Thirsties, Applecheeks, and Nora's Nursery brand pockets.
Good for boosting absorbency with additional inserts
the pocket is plenty big, the nappies themselves are easy to fit and generously sized.
Affordable pricing compared to other brands
I've looked at the alvababy diapers on Amazon several times and even though I know lots of people use them the cheap price makes me skeptical.
Adequate quality for the price
Alvabbabys are great to get the job done
Affordable pricing
Cheap doesn't always = good... but this sub is helping A TON!
They aren't my favorite but they aren't bad for the price.
We have a few that we like. They are cheap, they work, I like the elastic around the pocket opening, and i like their bamboo inserts.
I've heard some people say it took a long time to get their diapers but mine actually came very quickly like within five days.
Easy to use and clean
My whole stash is Alva baby pockets actually. They work great. My husband and I find them easy to use, clean and stuff.
I wouldn't make them your main stash item but I use them for laundry day or around the house.
Good fit for chubby babies
they fit my chubby bubba nicely.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Pocket diapers can be difficult to launder and prone to leaks.
I had leaks all the time (compression leaks).
Pocket diapers can be difficult to launder
Had a few newborn pockets and GMD workhorses but ended up liking prefolds best. They were way easier to figure out than we expected, and have the flexibility to fit the slightly alien newborn body most easily.
Not suitable for newborns without adjustments
Newborn legs are SCRAWNY and prone to leaking in OS diapers until they fatten up a bit and close the leg hole gaps.
We used disposables for the first three weeks to clear the meconium stage. That was two big boxes of newborn diapers alone.
Elastics may wear out over time
It’s very satisfying to restore a cover back to it's full functionality and keep it going for its 2nd+ life, but yeah, this takes up some time.
Pocket diapers can be bulky for small babies
My biggest issue was blowouts. My girl can blowout of any diaper, cloth or disposable.
Microfiber inserts not good against baby's skin
If those are microfiber inserts, they are NEVER to go against babies skin unless you want red baboon newborn butt.
Microfiber isnt great against babies skin. I also stuff my nappies because now my baby is active, trying to keep inserts where they are meant to be if on top while she crocodile death rolls is tricky for me.
With microfiber this doesn't work, because as all the other commenters have already said, it can severely irritate baby's skin.
Covers not wipeable for urine
The other thing with not being able to reuse them is because it’s not wipeable.
Not suitable for babies with skinny legs
Our baby was just under 8lb but had skinny legs so the OS didn’t fit at all for the first 10ish weeks.

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
General discussion on cloth diapering experiences
Their Amazon page says the work from 6.5 lbs to 33 lbs.
Discussion on the practicality of newborn diaper covers
a bulky diaper won't cause issues with hip development. cloth diapers in general won't cause issues with hip development.
Preference for all-in-one designs over pocket diapers
Honestly if I were to have a second baby I would get the newborn AIO diapers just for the convenience.

Discussion on newborn diaper cover necessity
Newborn diaper covers? Necessary? I just got an order of Esembly diaper covers (size 7-17lbs) and I don’t really know how big LO is going to be yet but the covers just seemed super big lol.
They are able to snap down pretty small. Also when looking at a cover, remember it needs to fit not just your baby, but over your absorbency.
They worked though. We also used esembly covers and a diaper service for inners. After a few months decides to cut out the middle man, just buy esembly inners and launder ourselves.
My favorite were from Petite Crown, fit really well.
Discussion on washing routines for cloth diapers
the cheaper and easier the better, imo!
Discussion on transitioning from disposables to cloth diapers
I'm wondering if I made a mistake buying all these.
Discussion on alternative brands similar to Alvababy
Made in Canada:
0 leaks ever...except that one time I accidentally diapered him with his penis sticking out of the leg... I don’t count that time.
They are made in North Carolina

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on comfort level with handling baby waste.
I have become very comfortable with baby pee and poop after becoming a mom lol.
Babies are full of bodily fluids that are constantly escaping all their different holes
Discussion on quality perception of inexpensive brands
Why is Alva baby so cheap? I’m contemplating ordering some Alva baby all in ones.
Discussion on the accuracy of ultrasound weight estimates
FYI, those are rough estimates and vary about two pounds in either direction.
Discussion on effectiveness of budget cloth diaper covers
They aren't *as good* as my more go-to Thirties, but they have a very similar style of gusset.
Discussion on identifying delamination
if it's fazzly and fraying and has holes, that's bad.
Humorous take on diaper fitting
Hip hugger diapers 😂
