Do all covers work for flats and prefolds? This is probably a dumb question but I see a lot of covers on Amazon and such that are listed for pockets or inserts.

Positive Feedback

They leak. They just do. I’ve come to the conclusion that cloth diapers just leak.

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Covers can be used with prefolds and flats
Do all covers work for flats and prefolds? This is probably a dumb question but I see a lot of covers on Amazon and such that are listed for pockets or inserts.
There's a brand on Amazon called "Babygoal" that sells just the waterproof cover, so that you can use it with prefolds/flat fold diapers.
I'm a FTM with questions re: changing routine and storage with NN/Alva/BabyGoal pocket diapers Hi all,
Not silly at all!! Totally reasonable questions :) I am only 6 months into it but we do use Alva and Nora's.
Covers are adjustable and fit multiple sizes
I actually use them interchangeably! Flats dry the fastest, on a clothesline and you can fold them up so many ways.
Does it really work to just... pad fold a prefold into a cover? Doesn't it move around or slip out of place?
So your mileage may vary! lol. Personally I didn’t love the pad fold before poops got more solid—swear they helped prevent at least a few blowouts.
I used pad fold mostly on an older active baby! I did a modified pad fold where I kind of fanned out the back for more coverage.
Covers can be used with prefolds and fitted diapers
Poop would always get on the cover. So, we always used a snappi to secure.
If you have prefolds, you can easily switch to using covers.
Fitted diaper + stay dry liner + cover. This is our bullet proof nighttime solution for our tummy sleeper.
Easy to clean and maintain
How do you get poop out of covers? I’m using babygoal diapers from Amazon and absolutely loving the fit and how easy they are.
I use baby goal covers with prefolds pad folded - we use Tide or Ariel detergent on hot [1st] heavy duty (not sanitary - that's too hot) and hot [2nd] normal if there are additional clothes that go in or hot quick if there are not and have had zero issues.
We also use mostly Nora’s Nursery diapers. We have a wet bag that’s open to the air for circulation, and since we live in a temperate area we leave windows cracked to help with airflow, so there isn’t much of an issue with smell.
Fitteds are probably my favorite diapering style. I use a combo of Esembly and GMD Workhorses with Esembly and Thirsties Duo Wrap covers.
Budget-friendly cover option
I love how stretchy, yet soft Thirsties covers are and they fit really well, but they’re considerably more expensive.
they do fit differently but both work well for us with prefolds, flats, and fitteds. I feel like babygoal *might* work better when my kids have been weird in between sizes.
They are sized and I've diapered small babies in unsized prefolds before and didn't like it, and B.) They have a good reputation.
Adjustable sizing fits babies from 7 to 33 pounds
Thanks for your thoughtful reflections!!
Covers work well with prefolds and fitted diapers
I love preflats. Like if I had to do it again, I’d make maybe 25-50% of my stash preflats! We don’t
Cost-effective compared to disposable diapers
This post mirrors my exact experience for my first 3 months, although I haven’t tried preflats.
Covers are soft and comfortable against baby's skin
The covers are amazing. They are super soft, no exposed PUL on baby’s skin.
Good overall satisfaction with product performance
My only complaint is that the inners take FOREVER to dry because the absorbent layers are all sewn together.
Good fit for tall skinny babies
Newbie fit check please! Tall but skinny, very mobile 5 month old.
We don't have leaks so I would say your good!
Fit looks perfect to me! Good job!
Love the design and pattern
Love it!
Good durability over time
Still. We were able to get a good 9months out of 5 covers without the elastic going to shit too much.
they're still working fine haha
Effective double gussets against leaks
It definitely meant the poop creeped to the edges more but they're double gusset and the inner one went but not the outer.
Budget-friendly compared to disposables
I found the Babygoal pocket diaper on Amazon and love the reasonable price tag.
Good value for multiple covers
I bought these Babygoal covers and they work great.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Covers leak frequently
They leak. They just do. I’ve come to the conclusion that cloth diapers just leak.
Every diaper leaks when it’s at capacity, disposable and cloth!.
My first baby had leaks all the time. My second rarely did. I used the same diapers.
Disposables stay dry on their skin way better than cloth so we can keep her in Huggies for 12 hours overnight.
Inconsistent leak performance based on baby shape
the only leaks I’ve ever had are from the diaper not being on properly or it being full.
Frequent leaking issues reported
I had them, I hated them. Baby was soaked within an hour or two and because it’s just cotton liners, without any microfiber it was as if baby was wrapped in a urine soaked cloth.
Higher price compared to other options
My understanding is that they offer fitter diapers and waterproof covers.
Increased leaks as elastic stretches
Do you find that with the elastic stretched now theyre essentially useless or is more about an increase in blowouts and leaks?

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Some prefer plain covers over pocket diapers for ease of reuse
there are also covers that are just the waterproof PUL/TPU without the stay-dry material that lines the inside of pocket diapers.
Most people like to do the covers that aren't set up for inserts.
General chatter about cloth diapering
It’s really nice to actually hear what someone’s routine is vs “I like *insert brand*”

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on combining cloth and disposables for diapering
Hemp + bamboo + cotton. Sounds like a lot but hemp especially is quite trim.
Discussion on different diapering systems and experiences
Thank you for this - I see a lot of stuff about what the different types of diapers ARE but not as much comparing the systems and explaining why one might choose one over the other… you’re really making me consider preflats!
Collecting used diapers from various sources
I’ve been accumulating used diapers, usually top brands (BumGenius, Thirsties, SmartBottom, Blueberry) for about $10 each.

Flats are favored for ease of cleaning and versatility
I LOVE flats. I was in between flats and prefolds, but I love that flats can be used from birth to potty training, and they are sooo easy to clean.
Making your own fleece liners too makes the clean up soo much easier when you start solids and gives your babe the stay dry feel.
Discussion on budget-friendly diaper covers
Anyone have experience with these brands of covers, or prefer one over the other?
If thats not something you want to do, the alvababy ones aren’t terrible!.
They aren't *as good* as my more go-to Thirties , but they have a very similar style of gusset.
Alvababy is my absolute favorite with wegreeco as a close second!
Discussion on washing techniques and advice
Diaper companies are, for the most part, going to give you directions that will prolong the life of the diaper, not get it clean enough for your purposes.
I don't trust these wash instructions 😂 try joining the Facebook group Clean Cloth Nappies and post there asking for wash advice for these specific diapers.
I promise, you will be washing things with poop on them even if you don’t cloth diaper.
Exclusive breast fed poop is okay for the machine. When baby is on formula or solids you need to 'dunk and swish' or spray it off in the toilet first.
Different experiences with diaper fit as babies grow
they just worked better.
Discussion on diaper fit and performance varies greatly among babies
We used to have leaks almost every diaper change, but we changed a few things and now we’ve had fewer than one a month for several months.
Discussion on the number of cloth diapers needed
How many cloth diapers does one need? I have read in several places that you need roughly 30-40 cloth diapers to make it through.
I have 24 pocket diapers and that works well for me... BUT we didn't start cloth diapering until she was 2 months old, we use disposables at night, when we need to use diaper cream, when out of the house, or when I didnt do the laundry in time.
I started with two dozen prefolds for my newborn. It was doable but it meant we were doing laundry every other day.
I have 20 and am getting by pretty good. But the more you have means each diaper needs washed less so it helps to extend the life.
General chatter about cloth diapering experiences
I love the simplicity of these diapers and the reviews on the site, of course, look amazing.
Advice on finding affordable covers
Their products are very high quality.
Honestly, Facebook groups are awesome for cheap covers.
If you can find preowned covers, they should be more affordable as well.
Check out alva baby. They do bundles as well.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Mixed feelings about pocket diapers
Personally I see no benefit to them. We use covers and inserts/fitteds now and they are much easier to use.
