What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Great for bulk food storage
Solid investment.
The pros are endless
it is invaluable.
Useful for meal prep and reducing food waste
+2 for vacuum sealer. It’s been a game changer for us and we’ve reduced so much food waste!
That's why I just recently bought a vacuum sealer. I've wasted so much food to freezer burn :(
As others have said, vac sealing (when properly done) prevents freezer burn.
I got a vacuum sealer last year and it’s such a game changer! We now mainly buy meat quarterly at a local butcher and I vacuum seal it for later. My partner just got us a chest freezer and I’m so excited to stock it.
Chest freezers utilize space efficiently
Less organized though and a lot of digging for what you want.
Chest freezers maintain temperature better during power outages
Chest freezer also lasts far longer when the power goes out than uprights.
Chest freezers can be organized with bins for easier access
chest freezers are way better and with purchase of bins, make placing and finding frozen stuff so much easier
Great for buying in bulk and storing food
buying a freezer chest was the best frugal move I've made in a long time I snagged a 7cu ft freezer on Offerup for $60
We stock our freezer with frozen bread, pizzas, juice, donuts, french fries, etc. to reduce going out to eat when no one wants to cook.
Efficient use of space for storage
Best thing I did was get milk crates. They stack well, hold up in the temps, and are easy to lift out.
Good for storing frozen foods long-term
I realize that this may shorten the life of my chest freezer over time and I am completely okay with that as it is a small freezer and was relatively cheap.
I have had mine in there for 2 years, and was from a friend of mine who sat his in his garage for 15. It'll be fine.
I’m not exaggerating when I say almost everyone has a fridge and/or chest freezer in their garages.
Garages maintain a more stable temperature than outdoor conditions
You garage won't get as cold as the outside.
Great for organizing food storage
We pack that thing to the gills.
It's a solid little freezer and I love the baskets.
Compact size fits well in small apartments
We can easily fit a 5-cu foot freezer in our place, no issues.
Reliable cooling performance
Deep freezers are not complicated technology. I have a deep freezer chest from Costco and it keeps things cold.
I bought a chest freezer from Costco. It works. It was priced well.
My wife and I just bought one a couple years ago and it works great. Chest freezers wear like iron.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Potential health hazards from cleaning old freezers
This chest freezer is a biohazard. It’s not even worth the time, money and chemicals to clean it up.
Depending on what’s rotting in there, you’ll never get the smell out and potentially there could be mould or other things that could be an issue for your health.
Cleaning a used freezer can be time-consuming and stressful
For $50, you could buy yourself a lightly used chest freezer online - and buy yourself a headache-free afternoon of leisure.
A week of hard labor to save yourself $20? a waste.
Risk of wasted food if the freezer is not reliable
And will likely cost a fortune in lost food very soon if used
Chest freezers can be difficult to organize and access items
Owning a chest, I’d rather have an upright. Easier to organize and find what I need.
It’s just much easier to organise and access stuff
Risk of spoilage from disorganization
Spoilage is throwing away money, so preventing it is more important than taking advantage of a good deal.
Risk of malfunction if placed in extreme temperatures
hit -2, everything defrosted, and wouldn’t freeze anymore.
Manufacturer warnings against outdoor placement may be valid
It’s probably primarily that they won’t guarantee the insulation and temperature cycling will work ideally when the external conditions aren’t well-controlled.
Difficulty in organizing chest freezers
Tips on organizing a chest freezer so that it actually stays organized?
I hated our chest freezer. Love the upright we got.
I try to keep things as flat as I can. When freezing freshly ground up meat, I flatten it out to make it easier to stack and faster to defrost.
Bottom layer is three milk crates. Top layer is the two baskets it came with plus another milk crate.

Discussion about frugality vs. convenience in appliance purchases
Words have definitions, you don't get to just make them up.
Discussion about chest freezer suitability for outdoor conditions
Chest freezer for outdoors? I notice some people have chest freezers out in their garage or on their lanani.
No problems with either freezer and neither is designed as "Garage Ready".
Garage ready address extremely cold temperatures. If the ambient temp drops below what the freezer is set at the compressor will shut off and things will begin to thaw.
they have Yellow Energy Star stickers and since pretty much all compressors are roughtly equal, it's likely the one that "uses the least energy" at a given size has the best insulation.
Discussion on brand ownership and model similarities
Many of the bad reviews mentioned rust on the bottom and I figured having it off the ground where water could condense / pool more easily might help.
General discussion about deep freezers being basic technology
Has been running for seven years with no issue.
Discussion about rubber pieces and their purpose
Rubber pieces that came with Demuller Chest Freezer Came in card-board box with chest freezer.
Possible spacer / bumper pads for preventing damage to some part of the appliance during shipping.
Is there wire baskets? Could be spacers to sit them down at the bottom so they don’t freeze to it?

Discussion about vacuum sealers
An unbeatable combination for meal prep and saving money.
I keep hearing this but how is it better than just putting things in ziploc bags?
Freezer burn won't happen in a vacuum sealed bag vs a ziploc.
The reason I first started vacuum packing was to avoid freezer burn. Here's a good article about som
Discussion about other chest freezers and their reliability
Thinking of getting this to replace our 5 year old Idylis Freezer.
Insignia is basically rebadged products from either Whirlpool or Haier in the appliance sector.
Mine is going on 5 years with zero issues! Works great.
I've been happy with mine. Like others said they are rebranded from different companies, and I think the simplicity of a chest freezer makes them perfect for .Insignia
Discussion about reliability of freezer brands
My 2 year old Danby Premiere has decided it wants to no longer freeze my food.
many people do say, regardless of the brand, that newer models are less durable than older ones were at showroom.
Mine died at 3 1/2, and the service call is almost as much as a new unit.
Discussion on durability of older freezers
My mother has a Westinghouse (Frigidaire) chest freezer she purchased in 1993 that is still going strong today.
