Glass construction for healthier popcorn
I add butter to the bottom before I add the popcorn to pop and have never had a problem.
No oil or butter needed for popping
For an oil free microwave popper the Ecolution is a glass bowl with a vented silicone lid
I like it because it’s much easier to clean glass than silicone. I love it because it’s the perfect amount of popcorn to snack on and it pops the corn consistently.
It’s amazing! You can use oil and other stuff but honestly it does the best job dry.
Until I bought a popcorn maker, and omg the difference. You can definitely taste the freshness and the taste is so good, i only sprinkled some sea salt on top, didnt even use oil or butter.
Absolutely doesn't need oil to pop
Absolutely doesn't need oil to pop.
Easy to clean with dishwasher safe feature
Never buy packaged popcorn again! 1 brown paper lunch bag + 1/3 cup bulk corn kernels + normal microwave popcorn button = delicious snack!
Healthier popcorn option without oil or butter
sometimes I'm feeling more lazy, and sometimes I want something a little healthier (less/no - oil/butter)
Easy to customize seasonings
Homemade popcorn is the best (home popped? Homemade sounds weird for this). You have total control on the seasonings and saltiness.
Great flavor with added ingredients
Works great for adding butter flavor.

Requires careful monitoring to prevent burning
I have an evil 1250 watt microwave that I've burned every type of popcorn I've poured in it to this day.
Most popcorn poppers use the steam or conductive heat in the oil to get the kernels to pop.
They work dry or with oil. Run microwave at 50% power until popping is weak.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on air poppers
Air popper makes the best popcorn imo.
Discussion on oil usage and flavoring options
i like it with nutritional yeast. delish!!!
And I know there are corn poppers, but I just use brown paper sacks.
Interest in safer alternatives for making popcorn
Maybe consider an air popper? Inexpensive, simple device, easy to calibrate your desired amount of popcorn, and you'd have to really try to come into contact with the heating element.
If he's fine with a microwave, I recommend a silicone popcorn popper.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Interest in DIY popcorn alternatives
Make your own spice blends, toss popcorn with a neutral flavor cooking spray, like avocado oil, and then toss* with seasoning.
Humorous take on using unconventional methods to pop kernels
No no no .... Light the microwave on fire, put the bag over your head, eat the popcorn (kernels)
Discussion on butter melting methods
They're better, because these poppers can pop in butter or oil. Whereas air poppers cannot, which makes them taste plain and boring.
I also have a silicone one, I love it so much. I melt my butter/ghee separately and toss it with the lid on. Voilà, coated popcorn.
Interest in oil addition to popping
Can I add popcorn oil to a microwave popper?
Yes, I do it with my silicone popper!
I do it with my silicone popper
Did exactly that last night with exact setup.
Variety of seasoning options discussed
SO good and sticks a lot better than larger flakes of nooch.
Interest in alternative popcorn making methods
You can also get bulk popcorn kernels and pop them in the microwave in basically anything.
Discussion on flavoring techniques for popcorn
So I got a microwave air popper because I figured it would be better if I made my own instead of prepackaged microwaved popcorn
Do it like a tequila shot. Eat a handful of popcorn, do a shot of melted butter, then snort a line of flavacol.
I also have a plain popcorn salt shaker that I use after popping if it doesn't seem salty enough.
Interest in using microwave for popcorn without plastic
I like the microwave because I can just set it and let it go until it's ready and have no worries about burning with a timer.
Dunno if you could pull it off without fat.
Discussion on alternatives to oil for popping popcorn
same - with a shot of canola oil. works perf
Air poppers are mostly plastic BUT seriously the best way to make popcorn and will last a long time. My grandma had an airpopper for YEARS and I loved it and now I have one. The best thing about them is you never get burned kernels because as soon as they pop they're blasted out and away from the heating element. Best. Popcorn. Maker. Ever.
Mention of DIY popcorn methods using paper bags
Do you have a brown paper bag?
Interest in silicone bags for popcorn making
They are about $25 but can use for other reasons than popcorn.
Discussion on popcorn popping techniques
If you microwave popcorn at 50% power until the first pop, then on full power until done it pops way more efficiently.
But but but the popcorn button :(
Depends on the microwave. Mine works just fine on the popcorn setting.
Oooorrr... you just follow the directions and listen until the pops are 3 seconds apart and win....
Discussion on using paper bags for popping popcorn
What would be your go to method for no oil? Something I COULD use oils with if I really want to splurge but not often.
Put popcorn in a paper lunch bag and microwave, no oil needed - add whatever flavoring you want [salt pepper... cumin, tumeric, whatever] and shake.
Debate on flavoring methods for oil-less popcorn
Air popper popcorn tastes identical to popcorn popped on a stove without oil.
The oil is mainly used for flavor. You can pop the kernels on the stove just fine without oil.
Discussion on bagged popcorn mechanics
ELI5: Why does it matter which side is up or down when microwaving bagged popcorn?
The popcorn bag has some metallic looking material built into one side of it that absorbs microwaves better.
This is entirely correct and well worded. Someone give this user some gold.
Thanks for the answer! Making popcorn earlier gave me the idea to post this and the bags I made didn’t have the metallic side to them so I was curious if the turnout would be different.

Interest in silicone popcorn poppers
I can't get my microwave silicone popcorn popper from target to work Any tricks for silicone popcorn poppers?
I have one of those silicone popcorn poppers from Amazon. No idea of the brand. I just got one with decent reviews. I've had it maybe 7 or 8 years now and its showing no signs of giving out. It works well.
Do these microwave ones taste different than an air popper? Or would you say it's pretty similar?
I get a couple dozen pounds of popcorn from FIT-POP online (best popcorn I've ever had) & mostly just use the silicone microwave popcorn most of the year.
Interest in microwave popcorn settings
Why does (almost) every microwave have a "Popcorn" setting and every MW popcorn package tells you not to use it?
They can't just get together and make up their minds because they're both trying to sell you the best version of their product, which is strangely at odds with each other.
There are actually high end microwaves that do use a microphone to listen for popping.
I use my popcorn button for popcorn. Though I stop it before it times all the way down (about 10 seconds left) because the popping stops before the cycle is finished.
General inquiry about quick and easy popcorn solutions
Popcorn microwave maker Basically I love microwave popcorn [I am also on a diet atm so I prefer not using oil or butter for popcorn] so I'm looking for something I can throw into the microwave and will do a quick and easy good job.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Interest in plastic-free options
I want to buy an air popper but all the ones I've found seem to be mostly plastic and plastic + heat is just a hard pass for me, even if they say BPA free etc.
Caution against using paper bags for popping
Don't use the paper bag more than a couple times before changing, it'll catch fire.
I did it once and it caught fire
General discussion about popcorn makers
Big fan of the Whirley Pop, super easy and consistent results.
Concern over health risks of microwave popcorn
Our son has enjoyed making microwavable popcorn and we'd like to find a safer alternative.
