The popcorn comes out crunchy and delicious with no scorching.
So I'm wondering if folks here have tips for using it? Add seasoning at the start? Is that indeed a bad idea?
Love these poppers!
Collapsible design for easy storage
It folds away flat and I get the popcorn I like.
I add butter once the popcorn has been transferred to a serving bowl.

Don't be dumb like me and think you can pop popcorn without the lid.
Makes delicious popcorn quickly
I do 1/3c kernels, 1 tablespoon coconut oil, and 1/4 teaspoon flavacol.
I use the Golden barrel butter flavored oil. I’ll put some in the popper and let it melt then mix in flavacol before popping.
I have got so much use out of my Colonel Popper that I actually started buying bigger containers of popcorn kernels.
Never buy packaged popcorn again! 1 brown paper lunch bag + 1/3 cup bulk corn kernels + normal microwave popcorn button = delicious snack.
Safe and inert silicone material
Silicone is one of the most inert and temperature stable substances ever used to make cookware assuming it was manufactured properly
It’s safe. There are silicone muffin cups and other things for use in a regular oven.
Well if they’re not safe then I’m hosed. I’ve used my silicone popper every single night for over a year and a half.
Does not require oil to pop
Absolutely doesn't need oil to pop.
Works effectively with the right technique
Did you put some oil in with the popcorn?
I use a little spray just to coat the kernels and it helps pop them better I feel.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Users experiment with different oils and butters
I use a glass bowl to pop mine in the microwave. I use ~2 tbs butter, 1/2 cup kernels, and around 1/8tsp flavocal. It is easily the best popcorn I've ever had.
I use both coconut oil and butter in mine all the time, along with Flavacol. To me, the coconut oil makes a mild but positive difference.
I recommend a half-and-half blend of Grapeseed oil and Trader Joe's solid ghee-in-a-jar. It coats the kernels beautifully and helps the flavacol coat everything evenly.
Can you use oil for popping in a silicone microwave popper? Or will this damage the popper over time? The instructions it came with said to use no oil, but I really do want to pop with oil as I want to add flavacol.
Users experimenting with alternative popping methods
Couldn't you use a microwave safe mixing bowl, like pyrex?
You can find bowls that can be used in the microwave to pop kernels. Maybe this is a good option if you’re concerned.
There was a company called HalfPops that sold “half-popped” popcorn that may be what you’re looking for.
I just put kernels in a paper lunch bag…works great in the microwave 🤷🏽‍♀️
Discussion about popcorn preparation methods
I always thought popcorn was the same way. You want something to chew on? You rip open a bag of popcorn and either chew them, swallow them whole, or spit them out after chewing them for a bit.
His molars might be broken in half though.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on microwave safety and silicone use
My mom is concerned about the use of silicone in the microwave and I guess using the microwave in general for popcorn because of radiation.
Silicone microwave poppers are awesome.
I've read something about the glue in the bags making this not a food "safe" method, so you might want to do a bit of research to make sure you aren't adding noxious chemicals to your popcorn.
Don't use the paper bag more than a couple times before changing, it'll catch fire.
