What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
FoodSaver bags do not puncture easily.
I’ve never had a food saver bag puncture.
Personally I would use the Food Saver bags. I know they're a bit more expensive, but in my times of trying out different bags, this was the best brand as it just worked.
No complaints.
FoodSaver bags are compatible with various vacuum sealers.
I’ve never had a problem.
Everything from pancake mix to frozen meat and vegetables.
FoodSaver bags are reliable and rarely fail
I know they are more expensive, but I can’t remember the last time they failed me.
Double sealing enhances bag performance
I always double seal my bags. Not double bag but seal in one spot, move it a quarter inch and put another seal.
I take the extra time to take a paper towel to dry the inside of the little flap before the second seal as well, just in case a little juice got out.
This, and also fold the top two inches of the bag inside out before you put the food in to help prevent touching and contaminating the sealing area.
Ye olde double seal helps maintain the vacuum seal in your bag the same way a double set of doors keep noise and weather out of a building.
FoodSaver bags are reliable with zero issues reported.
Have had zero issues with the Kirkland vacuum bags.
FoodSaver bags are preferred over alternatives.
regret not buying it sooner.
FoodSaver bags prevent freezer burn effectively.
I have never used it to reseal food bags (like chips). But it is worth every dollar when it comes to freezing bulk meat.
Once I realized that, pffft....these things are frikkin must haves.
food does not last forever, but it does last way way longer than just using zipped freezer bags.
Bags are convenient for portioning meat.
I don’t use it to reseal bags, but I do use it for freezing meat like ground beef.
FoodSaver bags are effective for portioning food.
I’ve had a Foodsaver for several years and it’s been solid.
FoodSaver vacuum sealers are reliable and have a good track record.
Success is much more about technique than machine.
Double sealing enhances the performance of FoodSaver bags.
Not one issue ever.
Use the vacuum seal function once. Then move slightly above that spot and use the heat seal only function to add a second level of seal.
FoodSaver rolls work well with Anova vacuum sealers
Foodsaver rolls in Anova vacuum sealer pro? Has anyone here tried using Foodsaver rolls (mainly curious about the 28 cm wide ones) in Anova's vacuum sealer pro (the larger model that you can store a roll in)?
I use both sizes of FoodSaver rolls in my Anova sealer with no issue - they work great!
Bags are convenient for sous vide cooking.
You can't fit a roast into an 8 x 12 bag.
The bags are more convenient, but the rolls are much more versatile.
FoodSaver bags are effective for sealing long cooks without breaking seals.
since the chamber vac pouches are so much cheaper, I was wondering if it would be okay to use them with my foodsaver.
I have never had a bag seal break in the cooker, and I have done 48 hour Short ribs.
I've never had a seal break since I started double sealing.
Double sealing enhances the reliability of FoodSaver bags.
Yeah I double seal for anything longer than 6hrs.
FoodSaver bags are perceived as cost-effective for quality.
these bags are a big cost saver.
FoodSaver bags are more durable than alternatives.
Definitely not as durable as the foodsaver ones but way cheaper.
The rolls on some of the Amazon bags are too large to fit in standard Foodsaver machines.
Triple sealing enhances bag performance
I always triple seal my foodsaver bags at each end and so far have never had a problem.
Seal it 3 times but space them apart not all on the same spot.
FoodSaver bags are reliable with good seals
I've never had an issue with bags failing at higher temperatures, if you have a good heat seal, the plastic is repolymerized, it shouldn't come undone at any temperature below it's melt temperature (>100C).

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
FoodSaver bags are more expensive than other options.
I'm still hoping to find cheaper bags. But honestly I haven't found a good one yet.
FoodSaver bags are considered expensive compared to alternatives.
Seems like the circulator/heating element is cheap but I'm wondering what everyone does for bags.
I bought a giant roll for cheap years ago, still going through it.
super cheap, you seal both ends yourself.
I spend ~$25 at a time for enough bags to vacuum seal hundreds of pounds of food. It’s not pricey.
Users prefer cheaper alternatives to FoodSaver bags.
I found a much better deal for the size I need on Amazon than the brand name.
I've never bought the brand name and I've never had a problem.
FoodSaver bags may be considered less durable over time.
They kinda make junk, but it’s fine and does the job while it works.
Generic vacuum sealer bags are cheaper than FoodSaver bags.
They work really well and seem slightly thicker than foodsaver bags.
Generic bags have worked fine for me. Make sure that they are etched.
All three worked fine. Biggest hassle of the non-food saver ones is that the rolls are too big in diameter for my machine.
Chamber vacuum bags are MUCH cheaper than FoodSaver suction type bags.. but the sealer costs a lot more.
Users prefer rolls for customization over precut bags.
I prefer the rolls off amazon over the bags, then I can make then whatever size that I need.
FoodSaver bags may fail at high temperatures
High Temp vacuum sealer bags? I made Kenji's Pork Carnitas this weekend, cooking them at 170F for 10+ hours this weekend and had 2 bag failures during cooking.
I think the issue with food saver's in general is they have a very thin seal and the machine doesn't get that hot when sealing either.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about different types of vacuum sealers.
Vacuum sealer food saver? What brands do you like or dislike and why? Looking to get my first vacuum sealer and I see stand up and idk “lay down” 😂 different sizes, different ways of sealing… where on earth do I begin?
I brought a Nesco VS-12 last year and I love it so far. It doesn't waste bag space and the variable settings have made it easier for me to seal a wider variety of foods.
It allows you to vacuum seal a lot more, including liquids too which is amazing for freezing soups, sauces, broths, and meats in marinating liquids.
It has settings to seal wet and dry food (thinking there's some sort of pressure differential between the two).
Discussion on using various brands of vacuum sealing bags.
I buy 8" and 11" rolls from Amazon so I can make whatever size bags I need.
Discussion on the functionality of vacuum sealers.
I just make sure any vacuum sealer I buy can do this, because it seems that some can't maybe?
My Food Saver seal button doesn't work when the vacuum is running.
Users discuss their experiences with different vacuum sealer bags.
I've had success with FoodVacBags off Amazon

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Users wrap sharp items to prevent puncturing.
This stopped lamb chop bones from puncturing my bags, and it also keeps food away from plastic.
Users share experiences and tips for using vacuum sealers.
Just for fun, vacuum seal the Anova and stick it in a closet somewhere as a backup.
My $80 annova is fine, could be better.
How much money would I save on a Food Saver bag vs a generic vacuum sealer bag?
Discussion about using biodegradable bags
I want the Anova precision chamber vacuum sealer but hate plastic
Users share experiences with bag-making process.
Your description of the process makes it sound like more work than it is... I can typically make a bag (from a roll) in under a minute.
Users discuss techniques for effective vacuum sealing.
Good to know that it seems that the double seal works.
I find that by the time the liquid starts getting sucked up into the top part of the bag the air is nearly always already out of the bag.
Discussion on using alternative sealing methods
Maybe not the answer you are looking for but double bagging ziploc works for me on long, high temperature baths.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion about bulk buying and alternative bag options.
Chamber sealer bags 250 at a time isn’t too bad.
My chamber vac uses much less expensive bags that don't require the two layer air channel mesh that suction vas sealers need.
Discussion on using generic vacuum seal bags.
Plastic is plastic, all that matters is the thickness and if you have a quality sealer.
the ones I got from Amazon are thicker and seal better than the ones that came with my new vacuum sealer
Discussion about cheaper alternatives to FoodSaver bags.
I have a Food Saver and will typically buy the Food Saver brand bags from Target, however they aren’t cheap.
Wevac brand from Amazon. 150' roll for $25. Seem to work great for me.
I buy the long rolls of Amazon generic brand and make my own sizes. Way cheaper even than these.
I have seen really hit and miss reviews about how well they seal.
Competition between FoodSaver and generic brands.
because Food Saver's (Newell) only sales channel is Costco....
Physical store generics have never put name brands out of business before, why would they now? This is good competition for food saver.
Ah yes, the same way they put Charmin, Bounty, Perdue, and Truly out of business.
Discussion about techniques for effective vacuum sealing.
You seal it once, then dry out the lip of the bag and put it back in and hit seal right away, or hit pulse.
Users share tips for effective vacuum sealing.
Why clean something when you can just not get it dirty to begin with?
Discussion on techniques for effective vacuum sealing.
How do you prevent imbedding the texture from vacuum sealer bags into meat?
If you have a typical vacuum sealer like a food saver with a seal button and a vacuum button, you don't have to let the vacuum sealer run its whole routine before it seals automatically.
Get a chamber vac. Bags are smooth.
Shared experiences and tips for using vacuum sealers.
Just sear them, and you won't notice it anymore.
literally 100% of meat seared contorts and condenses to not show this feature of the bags lol
I know it doesn’t look good right now, but watch this…
Preference for rolls over precut bags
Get rolls of bags instead of the precut junk Anova uses.
Discussion on the hassle of using vacuum rolls vs bags.
That seems like a lot of work compared to using precut bags, where presumably I only need to do step #4.
Discussion about using off-brand bags as alternatives to FoodSaver.
Just use offbrand foodsaver bags: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00CQ8IXIK?psc=1
Yeah I bought these at the beginning of the Year and have almost worked my way through the first bag with a FoodSaver. They seem just as good as the name brand food saver bags.
Concerns about compatibility of chamber vacuum bags with FoodSaver.
It probably won't break anything, but there's a reason they're not considered compatible.
Unlike the chamber bags, the Foodsaver bags have channels to let the air be sucked out.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about double sealing vs double bagging
If you don't mind explaining, what's the benefit of double sealing vs double bagging?
Less waste. Same number of seals/points of failure and 1 less bag used.
Try double bagging, sometimes bones puncture the bags.
Mention of experiences with cheap vacuum sealers.
Our bag fail rate has gone down to maybe 1 fail in 40. Was as high as 1 in 5 with cheapo units after the first 6mos of use.
I'll add that to my wish list. Do you like their bags better?
Discussion about safety of sous vide cooking with these bags.
Can you sous vide these bags? I mean is it safe?
Freezing liquids before vacuum sealing can prevent issues.
Don't get me wrong, it's not like I leave a bunch of air in the bag (though a little won't hurt), especially since I season, vacuum seal, and then freeze my proteins and wouldn't want them getting freezer burn.
If you want liquids in the bag, freezing them prior to vac sealing is an option.
Users share experiences with not having bag failures
I’ve never had one fail.
