Snoop's Take

The Midland® T10 X-TALKER Two-Way Radios are designed for seamless communication during outdoor adventures, offering long-range connectivity and robust features. Users appreciate the radios for their durability and reliability, with one reviewer noting, "No complaints with cold batteries, water resistance, range, durability, and ease of use?" However, some concerns have been raised regarding channel congestion and the accuracy of the advertised range. Overall, the product is well-regarded for its performance in challenging terrains, making it a recommended choice for family camping and outdoor activities.

Positive Feedback

I’m receiving repeater traffic and I put in the ctcss code but I’m not sure if I can transmit on these.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Durability and reliability for outdoor use
Midland Radios I've been looking at an MXT575 for my car to stealth install.
I’ve got 5 mobiles now, love my mtx575 it’s a powerhouse.
I am currently comparing two that I am currently comparing.
Best two-way radio for urban use? I need to buy a pair of two-way radios to use in a large dense city.
Easy installation options for Midland radios
I figure it'll be easy enough to wire with power right there already, and it's a good spot for adjusting the radio.
It’s doable, but it was more involved than I wanted to get into when I was putting mine in.
Enjoyable features of the new GXT67 radio
Home Run for Midland
Exceptional point-to-point communication
Right now with my friends operating a similar setup on other vehicles our range seems to be around 1 mile at best, however online videos are showing significantly larger ranges.
Basically your typical motorola and midland variety.
Radio meets users' needs
Either way, these radios will fill my needs.
Exceptional build quality and performance
Midland or Motorola will ALWAYS be your better radios, better built, better receivers, better filters, etc but they cost more $$
5-watt option for weak signals
Thanks for the response! I was looking at the Midland GXT1000vp4 and the Motorola MS350r.

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Channel congestion due to multiple repeaters
I’m receiving repeater traffic and I put in the ctcss code but I’m not sure if I can transmit on these.
Midland has not made walkies that are repeater capable yet.
But I caution against believing the distances that are typically advertised with them.
Limited range in urban or obstructed areas
15w will often only get you about a mile from radio to radio in a dense urban, hilly or wooded terrain.
Keep in mind that different radio frequencies/services are only allowed certain power levels.
Privacy codes do not provide real privacy
privacy codes don't offer **any** privacy.
Legal issues regarding mixed FRS/GMRS radios
Basically they are stopping allowing mixed FRS/GMRS radios.
Misleading power output rating
Are Midland GXT1000 radios NOT 5W? I recently bought a set of Midland GXT1000VP4. I typed in the FCC ID (MMAGXT1050G) on the FCC site, and it appears their power output is 2.5W.
The GXT1000 series two way radios put out 2.8 watts on high power, 1.5 watts medium, and .5 watts on low power.
Midland and Motorola will do anything including the "50 mile range" to try and get people to buy the radios.
Legal issues with GMRS radio usage
The mod for an FT-60 to open up TX to include GMRS is really simple.
Limited battery life under heavy use
I bought a couple Midland radios once. Brought them out one time on a multipitch climbing route the day after buying them and they died 2 hours into the climb.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on repeater capabilities of the radios
Repeaters use two separate frequencies, one for input and another for output. Your radio would need to be able switch between the two automatically.
Discussion on heat dissipation for radio installations
Following with interest.
Discussion about optimal antenna placement
Good luck!
Discussion about radio specifications
The older GXT1000 radios were 5W.
Understanding radio communication dynamics on mountains
Just understand how radios work, if you're on the highest point in the mountain, everyone can hear you, but not everyone can communicate back to you.
Importance of antenna height for GMRS
Having a J-pole just 12 feet off the ground will greatly improve your range.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on alternative setups and configurations
Your aren't going to get the maximum range with it that you'll get with a 50W (or even 20W) mobile.
All legal unlicensed radios are going to be the same range.
Use a repeater. GMRS or Ham.
Discussion on the convenience of radios over cell phones for snowboarding
Two Way Radios for Snowboarding? Hello all,

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Interest in installation videos for Midland radios
Following! (FWIW, I've found a few good video's on YT about installs)
Discussion of GMRS licensing requirements for Midland radios
It shouldn't matter, but it seems like it's going to be awkward to communicate with my buddies if they have Baofeng — now I'll have to look at a chart to tell them what frequency I am on.
The General Mobile Radio Service is UHF only. The midland radio is a GMRS radio.
Confusion about GMRS versus VHF channels
I'm really just curious if it's practical to communicate between the two devices.
Discussion on GMRS licensing requirements
I love them I bought one as a bundle that came with two handhelds and a charging base that I installed in the center console of my Jeep JK.
Honestly, you may never notice a difference. The bigger difference would be if you wanted a 50 watt radio to get a significant range increase.
General discussions about FRS and GMRS radio differences
The general rule of thumb here to follow is FRS radios will NOT have removable antennas where GMRS radios will.
General recommendations for 2-way radios based on past experiences
it seems like these are fairly well liked
they worked even at a big mountain like Mammoth
Comparison of features and value with other radios
Is this just the snowsport tax? It seems to have a generic Li ion battery.
I've been perfectly happy with a little $20 midland.
They're fine and they're still going.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Excitement for new Midland radios
Both look like they have 5 watts, USB-C charging, wide band, repeater access, dual watch and noaa.
Welcome to 2024, Midland. It’s about time.
