Mr. Coffee automatic iced tea maker and pitcher, circa 1995
My mom made our tea with this!
I wonder if it would be nice to make a very strong concentrated, hot cup of tea you want then shake it with ice in a cocktail shaker and then serve it.
Durable iced tea maker
My family has used the standard Mr. Coffee one forever and have only needed one replacement in the 30+ years of my memory.
Decent performance for iced coffee
It's been decent in my experience.
Love mine! Maybe bigger ice cubes?
Convenient tea bag holder design
Mr. Coffee maker has a helpful spot to hold your tea bags under the lid.

Perpetually taints tea with fruit infusion
I loved mine until I made a fruit infusion style tea in it and it perpetually tainted all future teas no matter how much I washed it :
Makes inferior tea compared to traditional methods
My parents had a few of these over the years. I always thought it made inferior tea to the regular method.
Weak tea results
The problem with this is that that tea is usually extremely weak, you don't know which particular tea you want in advance, and then you still have to go up and down to refrigerate it.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Considerations for coffee maker features
Coffee goes bad so fast sitting on a burner, if you have multiple people drinking it or drink it frequently during the day it can be just as good as fresh all day long.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Humorous take on using the product for tea
probably, I mean it's not as if the Tea Police will smash your door down mid brew
I made this joke before but...:
Discussion on using alternative methods for cold brew tea
Yes you can. I have used a French press to make cold brew tea before
Alternative methods for brewing tea discussed
Don't ice it. Stick it in the fridge overnight instead.
I just have an electric kettle. I do it like you do, instead of adding a bunch of ice I just get two rounds of hot water, pour it into a pitcher, then add my tea bag for maybe 10 minutes, remove the tea, depending on the kind of tea I might stir in some honey while it's hot and then sit it on the counter to cool off and smell good.
I boil the water in a tea kettle and pour onto the bags in a ceramic tea pot. If I'm using loose leaf I make it in my French press. Then add more water and ice. I make small batches because it is so much better when it's fresh.
Alternatives to iced tea makers discussed
No problems with over-extraction or bitterness, always great results.
I’m a heavy tea drinker I’ve had an iced tea maker, but to me, its just easier to use an electric kettle, steep the leaves for a few minutes, and it’s done.
I used to do two 64 oz mason jars with a Lipton family size bag overnight in the fridge every day, but I’ve moved on to coffee.
Exploration of cold brewing methods
I haven’t tried cold brew. I’m gonna give that a shot tonight.
I'm going on my personal theory that loose leaves may be more prone to causing cloudiness.
I have luck adding a bit of boiling water to the cloudy tea.
I cold brew Yorkshire Red with Minneapolis tap water and have the best, smooth, strong iced tea every day.
Using alternative water sources for brewing
I use tea bags. And my solution for this just ended up being buying purified drinking water by the gallon and using that to make tea.
Discussion on various methods for cold brew
I’ve found it’s hard to find starting information on cold brew, unlike regular coffee.
You don’t need the expensive and fancy equipment, but the coffee sock isn’t a bad idea if you want your setup to be sustainable.
Toddy - you won’t regret it
I’ve been using mine for 4 years and I adore it. so easy to make and easy to clean.
Discussion on cold brew alternatives
Not sure if it's a first-time user error or an issue with this type of brewer.
The best cold brewer I have used is a food grade bucket and a coffee sock.
Love coffee sock. I have a gallon jug with a spigot to use with mine.
We use a shitty 1980's plastic tupperware gallon pitcher and nut milk sock, and it's better cold brew than anything I've found at a store.
Usage in a manufacturing environment
I make a pot of tea at a time and just found that the tag on my teas bag fit perfectly in the handle under the lid.
Consideration of using as a tea pot
I never thought about that, but that would make a good tea pot.
Suggestions for alternative brewing methods
But then why not get one of those cheap coffee makers then that are programmable, but use it exclusively for tea?
Keurig or zojiroshi. They give keurigs away for free almost. Just use them as hot water dispensers.
Discussion on alternative iced tea methods
You have iced tea.
Discussion on different tea types and methods
mmm Orange Pekoe (currently drinking the K-Cup stuff from Timmies); anyway, onto the topic at hand.
Hey dawg Dont hate on silver needle if you can't respect the subtleties of a nice faint white tea.
Exploring flavored tea options for iced tea
I don't really like to use anything other than the cheaper stuff in the tea maker though.
Using Mr. Coffee iced tea maker with a timer for convenience
a maker costs $30 and if you press the on button before you go to sleep, it should brew cycle once the timer powers on in the morning, but there is no warming plate like a coffee maker.
Discussion on homemade iced tea recipes
Alright Southern Redditors, I need your best Ice Tea/Sweet Tea recipe Step by step, detailed instructions are appreciated.
Mr. Coffee produces an excellent iced tea maker.
Baking soda removes any bitterness and gives you a sparkling clear glass of iced tea!

Discussion on longevity of alternative coffee makers
So, i settled for a $20 Mr. Coffee brewer. I’m certain that after multiple daily uses, it won’t last more than a couple years.
My French Press is over 20 years old. Cost me $30, and it'll last forever, as long as I don't drop it.
Both of these methods will put any electric coffee maker to shame.
Can’t go wrong with AeroPress. Pair it with a good hand grinder for maximum zen and reliability.
Discussion about coffee quality expectations
Right now my quality is Aldi coffee grounds that overflow the filter into the coffee so I have grounds in my coffee every cup.
Discussion on the cost of automatic tea makers compared to coffee makers
Why are automatic tea makers so expensive? It's so frustrating!
Automatic tea makers are more expensive because they are less common.
Comparison of ease between electric kettle and automatic tea makers
Electric kettle + teapot seems just as easy, if not easier, than an automatic coffee maker to me.
Coffee and water you can set up the night before and set a time for it to start, so coffee will be ready when you wake up.
Electric kettle + smart plug you can schedule to turn on
Discussion about needing a quicker brewing solution
I'm looking for something even quicker- just something that's waiting for me when I wake up, no work required.
Suggestion of using eBay for purchasing alternatives
It sucks to pay the shipping but this is probably a job for ebay
Discussion about price comparison for Breville tea makers
Personally, I would shell out the $190 for an on sale one since it really is worth the price.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on improving iced coffee flavor
I would add in a pot full of ice underneath mr coffee and subtract the water you add to your coffee machine in total.
Views on the extraction quality of inexpensive coffee makers
Anything in that price range won't heat the water to the right temperature, and it also won't evenly extract all the grounds.
Discussion about tea machines and alternatives
Is there such a thing as a tea machine (equivalent to a coffee machine) A tea machine similar to coffee machine where I could basically put the leaves I want in a container, click on a button and Voila?
Basically you put water in the pitcher and tea in the basket, and then press a button indicating what kind of tea you're making. It heats the water to the correct temperature and magnetically drops the basket in the water to steep for the correct amount of time.
The Breville is obviously the Cadillac of the current crop, but something with the top-down vertical brewing methods of the Nesco/Zarafina with customizable multi-step queue-able timing/temp programs would almost be there, I think.
You missed Mrs. Tea by Mr. Coffee! Okay, so it hasn't been made for a while, but you still see them from time to time. Also, they make terrible tea -- they're essentially just a Mr. Coffee with a teapot instead of a coffee carafe, you even use coffee filters!
