the Shars uses a CR2032 which I prefer, however, the Shars is most likely made in China while the Mitutoyo is made in Japan.

Positive Feedback

She's cooked bro, every indicator I've pulled apart has died from a snapped shaft on one of the gears.

Good for hobby use
I had no idea this existed!
I really like the story comic book that goes with it!
Decent budget measurement tools
I'm hoping someone out there will have found a solid ringer.
Shars sells decent budget measurement tools.
Good battery life similar to Mitutoyo
The big sell point is similar battery life to Mitutoyo, I think 1 year?

Accu-size tools are unreliable and low quality.
She's cooked bro, every indicator I've pulled apart has died from a snapped shaft on one of the gears.
Accu-size tools are not worth repairing.
Shars micrometer is perceived as lower quality compared to Mitutoyo
Comparing Mitutoyo with Shars is nonsensical. They are on opposite ends of the scales of both quality and price.
I just like common batteries.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
General discussion about dial bore gauges and measuring tools
A good middle ground.
Discussion on the suitability of calipers for tight tolerances
obv they aren't going to be good for especially tight tolerances, but then if you're worried about tight tolerances probably don't use calipers to begin with.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on the effectiveness of micro-needling
For the amount of money I expected it to be designed better, or at least for the serum to be basically magic.
You have used it twice and expect miracles? LOL
I love it.
I guess my question is....did we really get scammed?

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Mention of preferences for high-quality brands like Mitutoyo
Seeing that the mitutoyo is a few hundred thousandths of error vs 9 ten thousandths in the cheaper tool makes me feel better.
Advice to avoid cheap micrometers for career longevity
If you're making a career out of this, don't cheap out, because you'll have to buy the good set eventually.
Seriously though, don't cheap out on measuring equipment. You'll regret it.
If you have to cut corners, go SPI or Fowler.
Mention of brands like Mitutoyo and their pricing
Yeah I'm checking there right now, I found a set of 3 starrett micrometers but they're metric :-(.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns over quality control in competing brands
Starrett heads but their QC seems to have tanked in the last year or so and we scrap almost 3% of our Starrett heads as soon as they're out of the box.
I always rooted for starret, but they're really not making a great case for themselves.
Starretts gone by the wayside and are riding the coat tails of their past.
Probably get a nice new mitutoyo for 3 bills.
Discussion about Mitutoyo's offerings
I am actually in talks with Mitutoyo right now but they don't make a small 2" range head.
Mention of other brands like Sylvac in the market
Sylvac. Best on the market.
Discussion about the advantages of Mitutoyo micrometers
Mitutoyo electronic digi, I loved that mic.
Mitutoyo digital is definitely the go-to for precision and ease of reading.
So easy to use and so repeatable.
They’re the best IMO.
Mention of mechanical micrometers and preferences
Incredible accuracy if you want to buy a pack to fill your capabilities.
If it's so bent you can't remove it then you might be SOL.
Discussion about the use of go/no-go limits in micrometers
go-no go/min-max micrometer.
It's a pass/fail or go/no go micrometer.
General discussion about Limit Micrometers
I believe this is solved. It is a Limit Micrometer.
Used like a snap gage.
Concerns about calibration and tracking for quality control
In our experience, they are used to quickly determine if parts are within spec.
What can this micro micrometer scale?
Clearly, it's to make sure your feeler gauges are correct thickness.
Discussion about the reliability of competing brands
I’ve seen a few places that say it has a stated error of .0009” which is basically like measuring with a perfect .001” gauge.
most of what I see from Fowler is a low priced copy of something else, dressed up to look like something better.
Discussion on the reliability of Chinese micrometers
Get a Chinese set for cheap and save up for a Mitutoyo set.
Concerns about calibration and accuracy when using budget tools
something can be read 2.000, and be off at 2.500 and more so at 3.000
If it gives you the right measurement I'd say they're good enough.
Concerns about calibration reliability
So, are they good? Yes, they hold calibration well and will definitely get the job done.
Concerns over accuracy of 3D printed micrometers
I 3D Printed a Micrometer [deleted]
Awesome design study and print, but 3D printed parts are not accurate enough for even a semi decent micrometer.
Discussion on improving accuracy through design modifications
Very cool project!
