What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
SodaStream is cost-effective compared to buying soda
Soda Stream is way way cheaper that buying soda or sparkling water.
Great deal for SodaStream Gaia bundle
Killer of a deal. Worth it for the c02 and syrups alone
SodaStream flavors are enjoyable
the sodastream pepsi and pepsi max flavours are pretty solid.
SodaStream saves time and effort compared to buying soda
As it comes, the Soda Stream system really doesn't save much money - but it does save you lugging 2L bottles of club soda.
I feel like we pretty much break even on our Sodastream (we’re in the US). We just exchange the tanks at target, don’t refill them ourselves.
Using bulk CO2 can be cost-effective
I've saved money with mine. I've had it for a year and a half, I've been using it daily.
Enjoyable flavors available for SodaStream
Where it really shines, in my opinion, is the variety of drinks you can make.
My daily usage pattern just using the standard 1 L bottles and Quick connect SS bottles nets out to $0.38 per L including the flavorings.
Convenient sparkling water option
Genuinely a nice bottle anyway but so nice to have sparkling water as an out and about option
I have yes. It’s great.
Reduces waste
It was worth it for us and it helped increase my water intake.
it's the wast reduction for me, folkow closely by not having to carry the cans/bottles in from the store regularly
Saves money with bulk CO2
It does drastically save if you get a big tank of co2.
First year of ownership saw a savings of just under $20 due to upfront cost of the machine and cannisters.
SodaStream reduces plastic waste
Even though bottled soda was cheap (AUD$0.79 per 1.25L bottle) I broke even in less than a year.
SodaStream is a cost-effective alternative to bottled soda
The ability to carbonate my own filtered water was a huge draw to me, not only for the financial savings but because I could stop adding plastic to the landfill.
Zero calories and sugar in carbonated water
0 calories and sugar is my big reason - love that burn
Control over flavoring and customization
Gives a nice flavor and some actual vitamins.
Convenience of making sparkling water at home
I recently started using Sodastream and I love it.
SodaStream is a great upgrade from older models
Huge upgrade from my old SodaStream
SodaStream is cheaper than buying soda
I think it would be cheaper to buy a soda machine, but worry that the gas canisters, flavorings, and water filters will end up being more expense and more work.
I think you’d still be better off than buying soda.
SodaStream makes quality sparkling water
I YouTubed how to fill those canisters and it seems like a pretty simple process.
I have a well with mineral- laden water and it doesn't seem to bother my sodastream one bit.
Convenient carbonation process
So it doesn’t actually have the water running through it. So it might not really be a problem.
the water is not going to go through anything and certainly not clog anything.
Ability to customize flavors
Slices of lime or cucumbers make it more than just seltzer water.
I like my home soda water better, but I do occasionally get flavors to drop In, but mostly it's great plain.
No issues with hard water
My well water leaves crust on everything.
Our well water is incredibly heavy.
SodaStream saves money in the long run
I adore my sodastream. After the initial high cost of the machine, it ends up saving a ton of money in the long run.
Found our machine in Goodwill for $20, bought used bottles there as well, and bought a new CO2 canister at BB&B for another $20 or so.
SodaStream machines can be found at lower prices second-hand
there are sodastreams selling for $10-20 on there.
Flexibility in carbonation and flavor options
Many of us use them differently such they it’s not such a money waste as well.
Saves on plastic bottle usage
I bought it to save on plastic bottle usage. Was aware it might cost more.
Enjoyable plain sparkling water
I think the key for us is that we drink it plain.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Gas exchange program can be expensive
Dude, chill - it's a sodastream. Nobody is forcing anyone to use the expensive tank exchange program.
Inefficient gas usage
Yes, that is the only way to try and make savings, but to reduce wasted CO2, you need a DrinkMate Omnifizz.
Visibility of water level could be improved
I use mine on my Omnifizz and it is vastly superior. Only downside is you can’t see a full line.
Recommendation against SodaStream in favor of Drinkmate
Terra or Gaia I am looking into buying one and I am new to it and never had a soda stream device, which one out of the two would you suggest?
Neither. Don't buy a SodaStream, buy a Drinkmate.
Drinkmate, I can confirm this. Game changer.
Users recommend against SodaStream in favor of Drinkmate
I cannot recommend the Drinkmate Omnifizz strongly enough.
Carbonated drinks can become pricey over time
$14 for a 24-pk is getting pretty steep here in the US too....
Lack of variety in available flavors
I’m pretty annoyed that it’s taking so long for them to release actual soda flavors.
Long shipping times for flavors
It still seems quite new. I was annoyed that I couldn't find any flavors in store before but now it seems they are being stocked.
Gas canisters can be costly
Low in minerals and cold are key to a good fizzy soda.
Potential for mineral buildup in water
I have good tap water, and carbonating makes it taste terrible.
High costs associated with CO2 cylinders
What has always stopped me is the little CO2 cylinders.
I have a different brand that is made from renewable materials.
You can also force carbonate then fill bottles from the keg, a beer gun is nice but you can build your own for about 10$ worth of parts.
Initial investment for SodaStream machines is high
What are your experiences with Soda Stream or cheaper alternatives? Is it worth it?

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Both models have similar performance characteristics
Both are going to have basically identical performance.
Variability in carbonation retention
If you make it and cap it, it can last a couple weeks as far as I can tell.
I do find that it doesn’t hold the carbonation as long, but that’s not really an issue unless it takes you a long time to drink it.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
SodaStream can help reduce waste
I'm doing it more to reduce waste than save money.
Users appreciate unique flavors like IKEA Lingonberry syrup
Easy. The Lingonberry drink syrup from IKEA is hands down the best thing I’ve ever used with the SodaStream.
Discussion on carbonating non-water beverages
I’ve carbonated wine several times and it seems to work perfectly well! Just about the same as carbonating water, though I do chill the wine to 2c before carbonating.
The only reason for that rule is the nozzle can't be easily cleaned, and dried soda and stuff will breed bad things.
I did also wonder the same, any reason why you couldn’t just blast some water through it afterwards.
Discussion about using larger CO2 tanks for cost savings
The electric Terra is pretty nice but a extra 50 dollars.
I got myself a [Fizzpod](https://arvita.link/fizzpod), and honestly, I wouldn’t dream of getting another one, it’s that good.
Sorry for old post but... What do you mean when you say full size tank?
Yeah like a 5 10 or 25lb tank.
Discussion on using SodaStream flavors with Ninja Thirsti
just add them after the Thirsti finishes.
So you can use the ninja without any flavor?
Debate on using larger CO2 tanks
It’s the fizz not the flavor.
A 20 lb tank of food grade co2..a co2 regulator and hose for the tank.
Discussions about alternative carbonation methods
You can get a pony keg and fill with water and hook it up to co2 and get sparkle water for pennies per glass.
That’s what I did. I already have a 4-tap kegerator for beer (definitely NOT anti consumption) so I just connected an extra tap to a water line so now I have infinite seltzer water!
The CO2 serves two purposes.
I work in a brewery and our sodas are in corny kegs. Sometimes they are flat out the tap, I take them out and roll them on the ground for a minute or two. It really does work

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Black Friday deals on SodaStream and competitors
I spent this morning compiling all the Black Friday deals for the top 3 soda maker brands, Soda Stream, Ninja, and Drinkmate.
I got the Art because it's low budget and has that handle.
Sodastream has a 40% Black Friday Sale.
Availability of single bottle soda in stores
What? You can buy a single bottle of soda in any convenience store or grocery store in the US
Discussion on going keto and craving carbonation
going keto, I found that I was addicted to the bubbles not so much the soda, I drink it plain or with bubbly flavors, haven't drank a soda in 3 yrs.
Comparison of gas canisters between brands
they screw in, but no gas is released.
Discussion about water filtration methods
I have always understood that the flavored water solution had to be at or below (+/-) 45°F (about 8°C).
Users have different methods to reduce costs
A trap with many many methods to get out of the trap.
Discussion about adapters for CO2 tanks
It won't work on models that have the quick connect like the Terra
Got mine for $35 shipped.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Preference for other soda makers due to syrup flexibility
Get a DrinkMate Omnifizz, then you don't have to locked into concentrated syrups as much.
Experience with larger CO2 tanks varies among users
someone else here also recommended getting a larger tank and not buying the CO2 bottles, I think that makes a lot of sense.
Do you mind sharing the tank and adaptor you use?
Concerns about sustainability and recycling
I love sparkling water, but I hate how many cans/box packaging I have to recycle by consuming it.
