Snoop's Take

The ZLXHDL Portable Soda Water Maker is a convenient home appliance designed to create sparkling water and flavored beverages quickly and effortlessly. With its compact design and ability to carbonate water in just 30 seconds, this machine is perfect for those who enjoy homemade drinks without the hassle of store-bought options. Consumer feedback highlights several strengths of the ZLXHDL soda maker, including its ability to reduce waste from plastic bottles and save money on sodas over time. Users appreciate that it encourages creativity in DIY drink-making, with one stating, "it helped increase my water intake" while another noted the flexibility it offers, saying, "a major pro of sodastream over buying cans/bottles is flexibility." However, some have raised concerns about the cost of flavorings and the impact of mineral-rich water on taste. Overall, the ZLXHDL Portable Soda Water Maker is recommended for anyone looking to enjoy homemade carbonated drinks while being environmentally conscious and budget-friendly. The positive feedback regarding its ease of use and versatility outweighs the few concerns raised by users, making it a solid choice in the soda maker category.

it helped increase my water intake. It's also easier to have to occasional soda without buying an expensive 12pack and then just drinking the soda because it's around.

Positive Feedback

all in all very disappointed with my purchase, i basically lost 130 dollars on a sodastream crystal to get a worse experience than buying cans of coke.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Reduces waste generated from store-bought beverages
it helped increase my water intake. It's also easier to have to occasional soda without buying an expensive 12pack and then just drinking the soda because it's around.
Agreed 100% it's the wast reduction for me, folkow closely by not having to carry the cans/bottles in from the store regularly
Saves money in the long run with CO2 tanks
Good water thats filtered and cold is required as well to be good and hold fizz well.
First year of ownership saw a savings of just under $20 due to upfront cost of the machine and cannisters.
The electric Terra is pretty nice but a extra 50 dollars.
Cheaper than buying soda in stores
I think it would be cheaper to buy a soda machine, but worry that the gas canisters, flavorings, and water filters will end up being more expense and more work.
I think you’d still be better off than buying soda.
High-quality materials ensure safety and durability
I have a well with mineral- laden water and it doesn't seem to bother my sodastream one bit.
Anyone have a commercial soda fountain machine? I've always thought how cool it would be to actually have the best tasting soda on hand, anytime.
Quick carbonation process (30 seconds)
So it doesn’t actually have the water running through it. So it might not really be a problem.
About to buy a soda stream or other soda maker. $40 and makes 5 gallons.
I bought a Sparkel soda maker, which doesn't use CO2 cartridges, and figured out how to make my own mix so I don't have to use their single serving packets!
It's the same as with Sparkels normal packets. You're not going to get Mtn Dew bubbles- I describe them more like Nitro carbonation.
Ability to customize flavors and drinks
Slices of lime or cucumbers make it more than just seltzer water.
I like my home soda water better, but I do occasionally get flavors to drop In, but mostly it's great plain.
I’ve gotten the Cherry Cola and Green River syrups for them. Use them with my soda stream and they’re AMAZING.
It really is a neat solution if you're mixing drinks all the time!
Reduces plastic bottle usage
I bought it to save on plastic bottle usage. Was aware it might cost more. However I don’t really use the syrups and just drink plain. I’m still happy with my purchase.
It’s not just about money. It’s about saving waste. Many of us use them differently such they it’s not such a money waste as well.
Offers flexibility and customizability
a major pro of sodastream over buying cans/bottles is **flexibility**, or perhaps you might say customizability.
Quick to make sparkling drinks
I think the key for us is that we drink it plain.
Encourages home soda making
Guess I'll have to dive into the world of home soda making now because I want to try this.
I have resisted buying one because I don’t like the flavors you can get, but knowing sprecher has a syrup hell yeah I’ll buy one
I have been wanting one of these for awhile and have it on my Christmas list already!

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Flavorings can be expensive
all in all very disappointed with my purchase, i basically lost 130 dollars on a sodastream crystal to get a worse experience than buying cans of coke.
Potential issues with mineral-rich water
I have good tap water, and carbonating makes it taste terrible.
Potential issues with flavor ingredients
You don't even need the machine. I just dump the citric acid and baking soda right in and keep the lid on for a moment while the bubbles build
I guess it depends on how often you're using these? Neither are toxins but I guess you don't want to consume loads of acid on a daily basis for the health of your teeth.
Concerns about health implications of ingredients
What's the issue with CO2 bottles? Here in NZ at least you take your soda stream gas canister into the supermarket/other shop that stocks it and they swap it for a full one (usually for around1/3 of a new one), and they refill your old one for other people to swap once it's full.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Comparisons of carbonation retention and taste
I do find that it doesn’t hold the carbonation as long, but that’s not really an issue unless it takes you a long time to drink it.
If you make it and cap it, it can last a couple weeks as far as I can tell.
Discussion on various soda maker options and features
Any tips or advice on various models and/or zero-calorie flavors are appreciated!
It’s a great option if you’re into sparkling water like Bubly and AHA as you say.
so much better being able to carbonate whatever drink you want to vs being limited with other makes and models.
Plus you can flavor your water before you carbonate instead of after unlike the sodastream.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Exploration of alternative CO2 tank options
Seconding this; rigging a 40lb co2 tank supplies me with enough gas for more than a year of frequent (1-2 bottles a day) soda making, for about $100 upfront (used tank was $50, co2 refill was $40) and probably about $40/year moving forward for just the refill.
Exactly what I do. It’s the fizz not the flavor. I buy 20lb co2 tanks at 45 bucks. They last about 9 months.
Exploration of carbonation methods and alternatives
My criticism with the soda stream was that, after the first few uses with the canister, the bubblies seemed a lot flatter / less intense.
Thank you for figuring out the formula/recipe. I’m very rural as well.

Seeking advice on syrup options for soda makers
Best syrups for soda makers I’m about to hop in the home soda machine game to stop the massive amount of plastic and aluminum waste I’m creating, and to save some money.
Get a DrinkMate Omnifizz, then you don't have to locked into concentrated syrups as much.
I haven't tried an awful lot but the sodastream pepsi and pepsi max flavours are pretty solid.
The Lingonberry drink syrup from IKEA is hands down the best thing I’ve ever used with the SodaStream.
Mention of alternative soda makers
I cannot recommend the Drinkmate Omnifizz strongly enough.
Discussion on the cost-effectiveness compared to store-bought soda
found one that makes ANYTHING fizzy, which is right up our alley, but we still need to periodically buy the bottles of fizz to make the fizz in our drinks.
Debate on the convenience of buying single soda bottles
What? You can buy a single bottle of soda in any convenience store or grocery store in the US
Seeking advice on soda maker recommendations
Big plastic circle gray push button on top, bottles don't "click" into place, 50/50 chance when you push the button for the first time that it will either seal and start to carbonate or splash water all over the counter.
Discussion on CO2 tank sizes and adaptors
Sorry for old post but... What do you mean when you say full size tank? Like not just the 60l canister?
I got myself a [Fizzpod](https://arvita.link/fizzpod), and honestly, I wouldn’t dream of getting another one, it’s that good.
Discussion on water filtration and mineral content
Our well water has a lot of minerals that leave a crust on faucets, flowerpots, toilet innards, etc.
Definitely need to filter your water then. Maybe even see how much a 5 gallon delivery service and water dispenser is.
You can also go to a grocery store to refill a huge container for under $1 i’m pretty sure.
Discussion on adapters for CO2 tanks
It won't work on models that have the quick connect like the Terra
Got mine for $35 shipped.
Discussion about syrup storage and longevity
Awesome! Thanks for the confirmation. It was a joke at first but since I posted this I have actually been thinking about it.
I keep it in the fridge. Couldn’t say exactly but I’ve had them last a good long while!.
Discussion about alternatives to Sodastream
Does anyone have a carbonator that they like that is NOT a sodastream? I definitely don't want a sodastream, I'd like to carbonate more stuff.
[This is my favorite](https://www.popsci.com/diy/article/2012-06/how-make-your-own-home-carbonation-system/).
For real, I've thought about it, but I'm looking for something I feel comfortable with my 7yo operat
I have a DrinkMate and am very happy with it. It uses its own proprietary bottles, but takes SodaStream CO2 canisters. Your kids can use it to carbonate (pulp free) juice, (pulp free) lemonaid ou iced tea without voiding the warrantee...
